Jarrell Quansah earned a lot of praise for his performance for Liverpool on Thursday.

The defender netted his first goal for Liverpool in the Europa League, and, as you can imagine, most of the focus was on his maiden strike.

However, according to Jose Enrique, speaking on his YouTube channel, Quansah shouldn’t necessarily be too proud of his showing in midweek.

Indeed, according to Enrique, the defender was actually not very good in a defensive sense in the Europa League, claiming that this was the first time he’d seen him play live, and he wasn’t impressed.

Enrique unimpressed
The pundit shared his verdict on the defender.

“He’s not been playing well today though. Obviously he’s had a lot of praise, but I kind of still don’t give my opinion 100%. Today is the first time I’ve seen him live, I’ve been watching the games the day after on Wyscout, because I’ve been busy, but this is the first game I’ve watched him, and I need to see him more to have a proper look at him. He scored the goal, so fair play, but he’s not been good defensively in my opinion,” Enrique said.

Dead rubber
Quansah wasn’t at his best on Thursday, it has to be said, but the entire Liverpool team wasn’t playing at 100%.

The Reds already knew they were through the group, and they came into this game knowing that it was a dead rubber.

You can’t blame Quansah or any other player for taking their foot off the gas in this one.

The 20-year-old has, by-and-large, been very good for Liverpool this season, and while he does still have plenty to prove, he looks an exciting prospect and he’s certainly moving in the right direction in terms of his development.

Quansah didn’t have his best performance this week, but his goal should still give him plenty of confidence to kick on from here.
