They got off to a flier when Dominik Szoboszlai rattled in the opener, before Matty Cash unfortunately diverted the ball over the line after Darwin Nunez had struck the post. Mohamed Salah sealed the points in the second half to leave Villa reflecting on a haul of six points from their opening four league games heading into the first international break of the season.
McGinn, who himself admitted to passing up opportunities to get Villa back into the game over the course of the afternoon, knew that by not taking those chances from the openings the Lions had created, they’d be punished by a side who are now 15 league games unbeaten spanning this season and the last. That duly occurred.

Indeed the Scottish international, who will join swords with Liverpool foe Andy Robertson for the Scotland v England heritage friendly match at Hampden Park next week during the forthcoming international break, believes that the Reds have set out their stall early doors this season and that they will be a dangerous team to all.
“They’ve got players that can hurt you and have the quality to score goals like that. If you allow a team like Liverpool that head start it becomes a difficult afternoon,” McGinn told Aston Villa TV. “We had chances for people like me to get back into the game, but we didn’t take them. Liverpool proved that they’ll be a real force this season.”
