Jarell Quansah made to sign strict ‘car clause’ in Liverpool contract that all youngsters must agree to
Joe Adams

Liverpool academy director Alex Inglethorpe has revealed that the club’s young players are made to sign an unusual ‘car clause’ to help keep their feet on the ground.

Jarell Quansash is the latest name to have made the jump up to the first team from Liverpool’s academy this season.

The 20-year-old defender scored his first goal for the club during the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League earlier this month.

Meanwhile, he showcased his elite mentality in his post-match press conference, brutally claiming that teammate Joel Matip’s recent ACL injury had gone in his favour.

ADVERT

However, to help keep Quansah and the rest of Liverpool’s younger players grounded, the club have a strict car clause inserted into their contracts which prevents them from driving flashy vehicles to the training ground.

In a fascinating interview with the We Are Liverpool podcast, Inglethorpe expressed his concerns over the pressure placed on young players in the modern game.

“There’s a balance, so what we now do is that the players sign up to a car clause. You don’t want them driving in with a Range Rover,” he explained.

ADVERT

“The reason you don’t want them driving in with something which is too big, too grand, too much of a statement is because it’s not just the manager and staff that might have an opinion on you but it’s the senior players.

“I’m not sure that James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson, the first cars they drove, there would’ve been an element of humility and I use it in a presentation with the boys.

“You can’t go into a race you’re never going to win, I don’t mean with the car, I mean with life, you can’t think ‘I am a first-team player because I have a better car’.

“We could afford to pay them more but we don’t because I don’t think that would be right, there’s something around deferred gratification than instant, you should earn it a little bit and the players know if we don’t approve of their car, they can park it in the David Lloyd [Gym] car park but it won’t be in the Academy.

ADVERT

“I don’t want to be an idiot about it but I don’t want them to work 10 years for an audition and fail it before they’ve even set foot on the pitches.

“I want them to be safe, there are plenty of choices around safety [with cars], you’re a young player in charge of two tonnes of metal, you’ve got to make sure that you take care of that responsibility.”

Inglethorpe also believes social media has been a catalyst in increasing the pressure on young footballers to present themselves in a particular way.

“I just think it’s important, there is a little bit more about image with Instagram or TikTok or how many followers you’ve got, it’s very easy for a young child to get wrapped up in the image of how you look or trying to keep up with a lifestyle that you have to and it’s a race you can’t win,” he added.

ADVERT

“There’s got to be an inner-confidence about how you are and I worry sometimes about the pressures of a young person now where their life is Instagram perfect.”

Liverpool have one position ‘high on agenda’ for January

ALEX CAPLE
Liverpool have one position ‘high on their agenda’, says Neil Jones and Piero Hincapie is certainly admired. The Reds may struggle, however.

Journalist Neil Jones believes Liverpool definitely do admire Piero Hincapie. The Bayer Leverkusen defender fits the profile they’re looking for – but it’s not going to be easy.

In fact, Jones believes Hincapie can probably be ruled out as a January signing. That doesn’t mean the Reds won’t try to sign a player of that type, however.

ā€œThere is no doubt that Liverpool need to be looking at a new centre-back, if not now then certainly in the summer, and there is definitely an admiration for Piero Hincapie of Bayer Leverkusen,ā€ Jones writes in the Daily Briefing.

ā€œAt 21, and with the capability of playing both as a central defender and as a left-back, the Ecuador international is someone who is likely to make a move in 2024.

“Though given the position Leverkusen find themselves in, both in the Bundesliga and the Europa League, I think we can safely rule out a January move.

ā€œJurgen Klopp hinted recently that Liverpool may find it hard to get the player they really want in January, but they are certainly looking. And a young, mobile, ball-playing centre-back is high on their agenda. It may be even higher if another defensive injury arrives before January 1.ā€

The suggestion here is that Liverpool really could make a move for Hincapie – when he’s available. The only way that happens at Leverkusen is if they also sign a replacement, which isn’t entirely impossible.

The 21-year-old isn’t a regular starter for Leverkusen and if they decide they should cash-in, perhaps January is possible. But it sounds as though that’s unlikely.

And if Liverpool end up deciding a new defender in January is a must, then any new arrival likely rules out signing Hincapie in the summer.

In other words, the Reds like Hincapie but there’s a long way to go for him to move to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp shares what heā€™d do if he wins Liverpool a second Premier League title
Wed 20 December 2023 14:30
James Brooke
Jurgen Klopp says heā€™ll still see his time at Liverpool as a success even if they donā€™t win another Premier League title.

Klopp led the Reds to a first title in 30 years in 2020, blowing away the division to finish on 99 points. In another life, the manager could have won three titles with Liverpool, but finished second to Manchester City by a point twice.

Speaking to Sky Sports: Secrets of Success podcast today though, Jurgen looked back on those seasons philosophically.

ā€œComing second twice behind Man City with one point [was a success],ā€ said the boss. ā€œAnd if you really want to then go into the season, moments, ref decisions where easily they could have gone the other way around. We played the same season, but different decisions at that moment and we become champions, no shadow of a doubt. Thatā€™s how it is.ā€

Although Liverpool were so close to three Premier League titles instead of one, Klopp has no regrets. In fact, the German says that even if the Reds were to win a second championship, he would refuse to take home another replica of the tophy.

ā€œI donā€™t suffer because I donā€™t think ā€˜oh my god we are not championsā€™,ā€ Klopp explained. ā€œI have one of the Premier League trophies at home, would I buy a second one if we win it a second time? I donā€™t think so, I donā€™t need these kinds of things. I decided long ago that I decide for myself what I think is success and I donā€™t let the outside world make that decision because itā€™s always different.ā€

Klopp happy with Liverpool success
Although Klopp is happy with his lot at Liverpool, this shouldnā€™t be taken as an admission of defeat, or an acceptance of mediocrity.

Jurgen is clearly as determined and as driven as anyone to make sure the Reds win another title on his watch.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
But unlike many in the fanbase, the manager also realises exactly what heā€™s up against.

Thereā€™s a reason why no one but Liverpool have wrestled a title from Man City since 2017. Pep Guardiolaā€™s team are one of the most dominant the country has ever seen.

Of course it would be brilliant to have won three to their two over the past five years, but it just hasnā€™t worked out that way.

For Liverpool to run them within a point, and earn more than 90 points on two occasions is pretty incredible. Although regret will linger for supporters, there should be pride in that, too. Over time, there will be.

Still though, for all the amazing things Klopp has done at the club, it would be brilliant if he could end up with more than one Premier League win to his name.

Thatā€™s why this year feels so big for Liverpool. With City not quite their usual selves, the Reds have to give it everything. Jurgen may not be too fussed about getting that second trophy at home, but heā€™ll want it for the cabinet at Anfield donā€™t you worry about that.

Championship side Middlesbrough made easy work of League One opponents Port Vale thanks to goals from Jonny Howson, Morgan Rogers and Matt Crooks while all eyes will be on Jurgen Klopp’s Reds as they take on the Hammers in a huge clash tonight.

Illness hits more West Ham stars for Liverpool confirms top source as fatigue takes toll
Wed 20 December 2023 13:05
Damien Charles Lucas
Illness has hit more West Ham stars for Liverpool confirms a top source as fatigue takes its toll ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

West Ham will be far from full strength for the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.

That has been confirmed to Hammers News by the top source inside West Ham less than eight hours before kick-off.

We reported on claims earlier that West Hamā€™s stars had complained about fatigue ahead of the trip to face Liverpool at Anfield for a place in the semi-finals.

Illness hits more West Ham stars for Liverpool
It comes after a sickness bug impacted key players in recent matches ā€“ particularly the 5-0 drubbing at Fulham.

Now illness has hit more West Ham stars for Liverpool confirms the top source as fatigue takes its toll.

The source has confirmed that illness and fatigue will mean West Ham will not be full strength for the clash with Jurgen Kloppā€™s Reds.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES
Weā€™ve been told ā€œa fewā€ Hammers stars are sick ahead of the match. But the identity of the players set to be sidelined remains a mystery.

ā€œA few are sickā€ confirms top source
ā€œSome are tired/worn out,ā€ the source told Hammers News.

ā€œA few are sick, so we wonā€™t be at 100% strength.ā€

Itā€™s a real blow at a key time for West Ham as they go in search of another trophy. And West Ham fans will be justifiably concerned having witnessed what can happen when Moyes is missing even just a few key players.

Hammers supporters were left feeling sick and tired themselves when the draw was made.

Because since the 2010/11 season, West Ham have drawn a so-called ā€œBig Sixā€ side 19 times in the domestic cups.

Should West Ham make it to the semi-final, they would face one of Chelsea, Middlesbrough or Fulham over two legs.

Liverpool man to leave at the end of the season having just arrived during the summer
LIVERPOOL FC
Posted by Darren Looney44 minutes agoFollow @Darren95Looney

LiverpoolĀ will see their sporting director Jorg Schmadtke leave at the end of the season having just arrived at Anfield during the summer.

The German signed a short-term deal with the Premier League giants following Julian Wardā€™s decision to stand down from the role and will work with the Reds during January before leaving ahead of the summer transfer window, reportsĀ Sky Germany.

Schmadtke oversaw Liverpoolā€™s midfield rebuild ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, which sawĀ Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo andĀ Ryan GravenberchĀ all come through the door at Anfield; while the old guard of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner left the Merseyside club.

The German sporting director will now be looking to do any last business for the campaign in January, where Klopp and Liverpool may add a centre-back to their squad to replace the injured Joel Matip.

The Sporting Director role is a position Liverpool need to get right once Schmadtke leaves as it has been occupied by several people since the departure of Michael Edwards during the summer of 2022.

Owners FSG are likely to be on the lookout for a long-term option at present and only time will tell who will get this crucial role at Anfield ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

ā€˜I apologisedā€™ā€¦ Jurgen Klopp says he never picked Ā£10m Liverpool player as much as he should have

Charles Jones
Wed 20 December 2023 10:15, UK
Divock Origi is a Liverpool legend.

The Belgian may not have ever been the Redsā€™ most important player, but he was always the player that stepped up in the big moments.

He scored big goals in big moments time after time, and speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jurgen Klopp has been discussing the Belgian.

Klopp says that Origi remains someone he absolutely loves, claiming that while he didnā€™t play that much he was still a massive part of this team, sadly admitting that he didnā€™t play as much as he probably should have.

Photo by Pier Marco Tacca/AC Milan via Getty Images
Origi shouldā€™ve played more
Klopp spoke about the Ā£10m man and his time at Liverpool.

ā€œDivock is a very special person, I love him to bits. I donā€™t know how many times I apologised to him that he wasnā€™t playing more. Divock was a massive part of this team and the team let him feel that. In the week he was one of the most important players we had, and in the weekend he still was but he didnā€™t play as often as he should have. We had the relationship we had for the long time we worked together, but it was a lot more up to Divock than me, I would have understood at any point if Divock said he has to go now, he didnā€™t get any special treatment, he took it like a boss, and heā€™s a Liverpool legend, and we wish him the best for the rest of his career,ā€™ Klopp said.

Hard
We can see where Klopp is coming from here.

The Belgian earned a place in the team after his continuous huge contributions to this side, but, at the same time, itā€™s very difficult to find a place for him.

Letā€™s be honest, Origi was never as good of a player as Roberto Firmino, and he wouldnā€™t have been able to play that false nine role in the same way.

Yes, Origi was brilliant for Liverpool, but, at the same time, itā€™s hard to pinpoint a single moment where Firmino shouldā€™ve been taken out of this Liverpool side.

ā€˜Very happyā€™ā€¦ 22-year-old Liverpool loanee just scored against Borussia Dortmund last night
Wed 20 December 2023 09:30
James Brooke
On-loan Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg bagged his first goal of the season for Mainz last night.

After seeing last year ruined by injury, Van den Berg has quickly become a key player at Mainz. Starting 13 of the Bundesliga sideā€™s 16 games so far and featuring from the bench in another two, the Dutchmanā€™s getting the game time he needs.

Unfortunately, Mainz have struggled to get going, though. They currently sit just one place outside the relegation zone in the table.

Despite that, Jurgen Kloppā€™s old team secured a good result last night. Playing against Kloppā€™s other former side, Borussia Dortmund, Mainz took home a 1-1 draw, Van den Berg grabbing an equaliser just before half-time. And speaking to mainz05.de after the game, the 22-year-old said he was happy with the goal.

ā€œIā€™m very proud of the team,ā€ said the Netherlands U21 international. ā€œThe way we defended today was very good. Dortmund away, never easy. But yeah, Iā€™m very happy with the goal.

ā€œThe way we defended, created chances in Dortmund against this team should give us confidence. [Now we have a] little break. Mentally especially, itā€™s been a tough, well, months to be honest.ā€

Van den Berg showing promise
As Liverpool scour the transfer market for new centre-back additions, they shouldnā€™t forget about Van den Berg.

Before he got injured at Schalke last season, the youngster had enjoyed an excellent spell in the Championship with Preston North End.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Turning 22 today (Happy Birthday Sepp!), Van den Berg is now at an age where his future needs to be considered.

If he isnā€™t good enough for the Liverpool first-team now, then the Reds should look to move him on.

There is an argument to be had that it would benefit Liverpool to bring Van den Berg back to Anfield in January. With Joel Matip out for the season, they could do with the cover.

But in reality, that wouldnā€™t make a great deal of sense. Although Mainz have been poor this season, Sepp will be learning a great deal from that. If he comes back to Liverpool heā€™d be getting the odd game here and there. Itā€™s much better for the centre-back to be playing regularly at this stage.

At the end of the season though, you feel a decision needs to be made. If he can keep playing well, then perhaps Van den Berg will finally get a chance back home.

Given that it was a clash between his two old teams, you can imagine that Jurgen may have been tuned in last night. What better stage for the youngster to announce himself with his first goal of the season. Keep it up, Sepp!

Darwin Nunez is going through a lean patch and he is coming under fire once again for Liverpool.

The Liverpool forward wasnā€™t helped by the fact that his side recorded a goalless draw at home to Manchester United on Sunday, in what was a pretty poor showing in front of goal.

Michael Owen expressed how he is still ā€˜really surprisedā€™ by how raw Darwin Nunez is and how the lack of basics let him down, as he told Premier League Productions.

But the former England striker admitted that the 24-year-old can also ā€˜take your breath awayā€™.

Thatā€™s why he probably divides opinion because, whilst the player himself doesnā€™t know what he is going to do half of the time, you would still pay a lot of money to watch him in action.

This is Liverpoolā€™s club-record transfer and his second season in England, but now the fans want to see him take that next step.

But as Jurgen Kloppā€™s side push for the Premier League title, and lose top spot following the weekend results, Michael Owen shared his thoughts on Darwin Nunez.

Darwin Nunezā€™s qualities
ā€œThat hasnā€™t changed and thatā€™s him as a player,ā€ said Owen about Nunezā€™s off-the-cuff style.

ā€œThatā€™s something I have said many a time that I would be very, very nervous saying what you talk about him now because there are a lot of basics in his game that need improving upon. He actually does a lot of the hard things well. Some of the things he does, they take your breath away. You are thinking ā€˜wowā€™, if you could just get your basics right.

ā€œI am really surprised at how raw this lad is. A player of his age and to come for that money, all the rest of it, and still be so raw.

ā€œHowever, he has attributes that he could develop, with good coaching, it could come good for him ā€“ he could make you look silly if you pour scorn on his game.ā€

Nunez started and was subbed on Sunday against Manchester United, but that doesnā€™t mean he will he wonā€™t start against West Ham United tonight.

Itā€™s League Cup action for the Reds and Klopp usually rotates his players in this competition.

And with Nunez needing some form, itā€™s probably best he is handed another start because itā€™s needed for all parties.

Although, if it were up to the clubā€™s legendary figure, Phil Thompson, he would drop Nunez tonight and start Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool could solve their centre-back woes with a move to sign Sao Paolo starlet Lucas Beraldo in the January transfer window.

It was devastating to learn of Joel Matip’s ACL injury especially given his contract expires at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp may now move to sign a centre-back when the winter window opens in less than two weeks with Lucas Beraldo a potential option for the German.

According to Italian news outlet Tutto Juve, Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus are all keen on signing him.

Zenit St. Petersburg had an ā‚¬18 million offer rejected as Sao Paulo want ā‚¬20 million. Leicester City are expected to make a bid that matches their demands.

If Liverpool make an offer that satisfies the Brazilian club, they could gazump Leicester and ensure they find a solution to the diminished depth at centre-back.

Their are question marks over Beraldo’s readiness for a move to the Premier League given he’s only 20 and plays in Brazil but, by all accounts, he’s a very talented young player and has made an impression on the Reds’ scouts.

Reports last month suggested Liverpool are in pole position to reach an agreement with Sao Paulo but with the January window now days away, a formal approach has yet to materialise.

The games continue to come thick and fast for Liverpool, with titanic Premier League clashes against Manchester United and Arsenal sandwiching a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with West Ham United at Anfield on Wednesday evening. JĆ¼rgen Klopp has some difficult selection dilemmas to resolve.

Logic dictates that a game in the least important of the four competitions in which the Reds are entered is a time to rest some members of the squad. However, with the injury situation at the club seemingly worsening with every game, Kloppā€™s pool of rotation options continues to diminish.

As is customary ahead of Carabao Cup games, assistant manager Pep Lijnders took the pre-match press conference. He revealed that Ben Doak requires surgery having torn his lateral meniscus, an enormous pity for the youngster who would surely have received opportunities to play next month when Mohamed Salah is away at the Africa Cup of Nations. Doak would likely have been in the squad for the visit of West Ham too.

There was better news regarding Ryan Gravenberch, who was withdrawn early from the match against United on Sunday. ā€œIt was only DOMS so heā€™s fatigued, extra fatigue it means,ā€ Lijnders explained. ā€œSo, we have to be careful but I think there is a possibility today that he can train. Thatā€™s really, really good news.ā€

However, Liverpool was already without six players prior to its last match and there remains no strong indication that any of the missing men will be back before the new year at the earliest. This puts the Redsā€™ depleted squad for Wednesday in sharp contrast to that of West Ham, who (per Premier Injuries) should only be missing Michail Antonio.

Liverpool want to beat Premier League rivals to sign Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie after showing serious interest in the summer transfer window.

Joel Matip’s crushing ACL injury and resulting surgery means he will not play another game this season.

His contract expiring at the end of the campaign also means he may have played his last game for the Reds.

Schalke released him as a free agent in 2016 and since then, he has been a wonderful player for Liverpool even though his injury misfortune has prevented him from reaching his full potential.

While the Jurgen Klopp already had plans to replace the veteran defender, those may now be accelerated.

Transfer latest as Liverpool aim to beat Man City to Hincapie
Earlier this week, German transfer guru Florian Plettenberg reported that Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie is “not happy” with his role at Bayer Leverkusen.

Now, Caught Offside reports that Liverpool aim to “move ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City” in the race to secure his signature in transfer windows to come.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a “big fan” of the 21-year-old and Liverpool are “showing the strongest interest so far”.

Hincapie is under contract until 2027 and Leverkusen want to keep him for at least another year, however, his lack of game time could force the issue.

It will reportedly cost at least ā‚¬70 million (Ā£60m) to convince Xabi Alonso’s side to release him.

Liverpool were reportedly in “advanced” talks to sign Hincapie in the summer and could now return to sign the Ecuadorian centre-back to deal with Matip’s injury-enforced absence.

Liverpool also interested in Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong
Hincapie is not the only Leverkusen player attracting interest with Liverpool also keen on 20-year-old Florian Wirtz and 23-year-old Jeremie Frimpong.

Reports in late November suggested Liverpool are preparing a ā‚¬90 million (Ā£78M) bid for Wirtz although Daily Mail reporter Lewis Steele rubbished these claims.

He said: ā€œThereā€™s no concrete interest yet in Florian Wirtz but that doesnā€™t mean he is not on Liverpoolā€™s radar. They look at a lot of players.”

Frimpong is also of interest, according to depor.com, who claimed last month that Liverpool and Chelsea “have decided to enter the bidding.”

Time will tell if this claim is worth its weight in gold.

ā€˜Iā€™m really not convincedā€™: Tim Sherwood says heā€™s not sure Ā£70m Liverpool player is good enough

Charles Jones
Tue 19 December 2023 21:30, UK
For a brief moment, it looked as though Darwin Nunez was going to make this season his at Liverpool.

His heroic brace against Newcastle earlier this season looked like the perfect launching pad to make his name at Anfield, and he did kick on slightly afterwards.

However, heā€™s. now gone 10 games without a goal, and questions are starting to be asked once again.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Tim Sherwood has been discussing Nunez after the Manchester United game on Sunday, and he says that heā€™s really not convinced that Nunez is good enough to be Liverpoolā€™s number nine.

Nunez not good enough
Sherwood shared what he thinks of the Uruguayan.

ā€œNormally Mo Salah is a prolific scorer in this fixture especially, but just that wee bit of composure. Darwin Nunez Iā€™m really not convinced about, I donā€™t think heā€™s of the quality to be a number nine for Liverpool, heā€™s not really a team man for me, no rotation,ā€ Sherwood said.

Plenty to prove
There is a lot to like about Darwin Nunez as a footballer, but it has to be said that he has lots to prove.

At Ā£70m, Liverpool would have every right to expect more from Nunez. No goals in his last 10 games is poor to say the least, and that lack of killer instinct in front of goal has been an ongoing problem.

For a long time, weā€™ve chalked it down to inexperience and claimed that Jurgen Klopp will be able to teach him how to improve that area of his game, but after 18 months in England, we have to start wondering whether or not this is a problem that has a solution.

Nunez needs to improve, otherwise, he will never truly live up to his pricetag.

The raw attributes are there, and weā€™re not willing to write Nunez off just yet.

Bayern Munich now open to selling ā€˜world-classā€™ player after links to Liverpool
Tue 19 December 2023 18:00
Dylan Walsh
Bayern Munich are reportedly open to selling Joshua Kimmich, with Liverpool linked with the Germany international.

The 28-year-old midfielder is regarded by many as one of the best in his position in world football, with Kimmich an established superstar for both Bayern and the German national team.

However, rumours have been circulating that Kimmich could leave the Bundesliga giants in 2024, with Liverpool one of the sides reportedly interested in signing the versatile midfielder.

And according to Bild, Bayern are now open to selling Kimmich, with the German side eager to upgrade their midfield next summer, which could result in the sale of the 28-year-old.

Praised by Julian Nagelsmann as a ā€˜world-classā€™ player, Kimmich would be quite the coup for many top sides if Bayern really do go through with the unthinkable and offload the midfielder.

And for Liverpool, the Reds should really consider a move for the German maestro, especially if the likes of Thiago Alcantara are due to leave Anfield in 2024 next summer.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Few midfielders in world football are as talented or as versatile as Kimmich, and Liverpool should really consider making a move for the Bayern star.

Whether or not the 28-year-old actually leaves is another question entirely, yet should the unlikely happen, Liverpool have to ensure theyā€™re at the front of the queue for Kimmich.

Indeed, the Germany international has everything needed to thrive in the Premier League, with Kimmich likely open to working under Jurgen Klopp, as well.

And Liverpool should now be on standby for Kimmichā€™s potential departure, a move that would be seismic across the European football scene.

KLOPP IN ā€œVITALā€ TALKS WITH FSG ABOUT JANUARY SIGNINGS

JURGEN KLOPPā€™S STRATEGY IN TRANSFER TALKS WITH FSG: LIVERPOOLā€™S JANUARY PLANS UNVEILED
Liverpoolā€™s ongoing title chase in the Premier League has sparked much speculation about potential January reinforcements. Despite manager Jurgen Kloppā€™s earlier statements downplaying the likelihood of January transfers, recent developments suggest a shift in strategy, particularly in the defensive department.

LIVERPOOLā€™S DEFENSIVE CONUNDRUM AND TRANSFER TARGETS
The Reds have been dealt a significant blow with Joel Matipā€™s season-ending ACL injury, highlighting a concerning lack of depth in their centre-back options. This injury has undoubtedly impacted Liverpoolā€™s Premier League ambitions, evidenced by their recent draw against Manchester United. Despite needing bolstering in defence and midfield to enhance their title chances, Liverpool are anticipated to have a relatively quiet winter window.

The clubā€™s transfer activity is expected to be influenced by the progression of teams in European competitions. Clubs exiting at the group stage might be more amenable to negotiations. Liverpool is exploring various markets, with particular interest in the Portugese Primeira Liga.

POTENTIAL TRANSFERS AND FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Goncalo Inacio of Sporting Lisbon has emerged as a potential target, though his hefty release clause exceeding Ā£50 million poses a challenge. Liverpoolā€™s interest is paralleled by Arsenal, who are also eyeing Inacio. David Carmo of Porto is another name under consideration.

European prospects like Maxence Lacroix and Lloyd Kelly are being monitored, but doubts persist regarding their suitability for Liverpoolā€™s needs. The club appears to lean towards a cost-effective or short-term defensive solution rather than a long-term investment this January.

MIDFIELD DYNAMICS AND KLOPPā€™S TACTICAL OUTLOOK
The injury to Alexis Mac Allister further complicates Liverpoolā€™s midfield situation. However, bolstering this area in the upcoming transfer window seems unlikely. Klopp has expressed concerns about squad depth, particularly with the demanding schedule ahead, including a quarter-final clash against West Ham.

Kloppā€™s recent remarks post the United match reflect his pragmatic approach to the challenges ahead: ā€œItā€™s December, itā€™s the toughest period of the yearā€¦ We have to get through this, open our eyes in April and see where we are.ā€

KLOPPā€™S PERSPECTIVE ON THE TEAMā€™S RESILIENCE
Despite the draw against United and existing injury woes, Klopp remains optimistic about his teamā€™s capabilities: ā€œWe have our injuriesā€¦ but my boys today looked ready to give it a proper try.ā€ This sentiment underscores Kloppā€™s belief in his squadā€™s resilience and adaptability, despite the constraints and challenges of the season.

Having cemented its status as the worldā€™s richest football league, the Premier League is unsurprisingly home to some of the highest-paid players in the world.

Every Premier League club now receives hundreds of millions in television money and average pay packets have subsequently skyrocketed in recent years

Using data from Capology, weā€™ve taken a look at the top five highest-earning players from each Premier League club.

Note: weā€™ve not included any players that are currently on loan at a Premier League side or are out on loan as their wage bill is often divided between two clubs.

Arsenalā€™s highest-paid players

1. Kai Havertz ā€“ Ā£280,000-per-week
2. Gabriel Jesus ā€“ Ā£265,000-per-week
3= Declan Rice ā€“ Ā£240,000-per-week
3= Martin Odegaard ā€“ Ā£240,000-per-week
5. Thomas Partey ā€“ Ā£200,000-per-week

Havertz moved across London in the summer and got a slight pay rise, going from Ā£250,000-per-week at Chelsea to Ā£280,000-per-week at Arsenal.

The Gunners also broke their transfer record to sign Rice from West Ham United and they quadrupled his Ā£60,000-a-week salary.

While Villa didnā€™t have to pay a transfer fee for Tielemans or Kamara, they both signed lucrative contracts and are earning Ā£150,000-a-week in wages.

Watkins has been instrumental to Villaā€™s success under Unai Emery and recently committed his long-term future to the club by penning a new contract, which took his wages to Ā£130,000-per-week.

Brentford are widely regarded to be among the best-run and most financially sustainable clubs in England and itā€™s easy to see why.

They have a tightly controlled wage bill and Ivan Toney ā€“ who has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea ā€“ is earning just Ā£20,000-per-week.
