Ian Wright, a legendary Premier League goalscorer, has shared his thoughts on the upcoming title showdown between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield.
Liverpool is heading into the match after a thrilling 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest, thanks to a last-minute goal from Darwin Núñez. This victory put them four points ahead of City in the league table.
However, the reigning champions managed to close the gap to just one point after a 3-1 victory over their rivals United in the Manchester derby at Etihad.

But it’s not just these two teams that are in the running for the title. Arsenal continued its impressive form with a 6-0 thrashing of Sheffield United, marking their seventh consecutive league win, during which time they’ve scored 31 goals.
Arsenal, currently two points behind Liverpool, could take the top spot with a win in their late Saturday match against Brentford. But all eyes will be on Merseyside on Sunday when Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Man City face off.
As an Arsenal legend, Wright will be watching closely. After joking about his hopes for the big game, he shared his prediction for the outcome.
On the Kelly and Wrighty Show, he joked: “I’ve just had a crazy thought. Can both of them lose? That came into my head. Can both lose for Arsenal please?
“But no, you look at it from Liverpool’s point of view, is it at the Etihad? It’s at Anfield! Liverpool at this stage, I would fancy Liverpool, I would do.”
Ian Wright has often shown a bit of love for Liverpool. Earlier in the year, when Klopp announced he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, the former striker admitted to having a soft spot for the Reds.
He shared: “People say I’m a closet Liverpool fan and if shock and sadness says I’m a closet (fan) then I am because I was quite sad to hear the news.”
“With the announcement, you’d genuinely believe him. He mentioned exhaustion and tired, he looked tired. It is really sad.”
Liverpool.com says: Sorry Wrighty, you can’t have both teams losing. Having said that, given how tight things are at the top, Arsenal could still take an advantage away from the weekend.
Assuming the Gunners beat Brentford, a draw at Anfield would leave Liverpool level on points with Arsenal, although Mikel Arteta’s side does have a superior goal difference and would therefore go top. Yet another reason why Liverpool could do with an all-important win this weekend.
