When Mohamed Salah scores a penalty against West Ham, he breaks the Premier League record.

With his goal against West Ham, Mohamed Salah set a new Premier League record.

The Reds star was hauled down by Nayef Aguerd in the area, earning his team a penalty.

Darwin Nunez first missed a cross from Luis Diaz that Salah sprinted onto, and the Egyptian King took a touch before sprinting in the opposite direction.

The West Ham center-back, who failed to win the ball while attempting to stop Salah in his tracks and caught the winger on the way through, stopped the Liverpool talisman’s move, however.

As obvious a penalty as you’ll see all season, according to talkSPORT’s game reporter Matt Jones.

Alphonse Areola of West Ham was sent the wrong way as Salah continued to score from the penalty spot, smashing the ball into the goal.

As a result, he’s now the first player in Premier League history to score or assist in 12 consecutive games twice. He first achieved the feat from August to December 2021 and his current run started in April this year. The Hammers found themselves on level terms before half-time, with Jarrod Bowen firing the ball onto the post and in with a diving header.

(Image: Matt McNulty/Getty Images) ANFIELD, LIVERPOOL // Liverpool needed to continue where it left off in the Premier League last weekend. After getting a victory over the line in the Europa League midweek, Jürgen Klopp’s men needed to make sure they got six wins in a row to cap off what has been a brilliant start to the campaign. And they did just that with a comfortable 3-1 win against a tough opponent at Anfield in West Ham. There were plenty of positives for the Reds as well. Most notably the performance of the midfield which was compact when needed and extremely creative in possession, playing a key role in helping Liverpool carve out big chances against a tough and resilient opposition. READ MORE: Four things spotted in Liverpool vs West Ham as Alisson truth clear again amid transfer audition READ MORE: Liverpool has rediscovered Sadio Mané habit as Mohamed Salah Champions League incentive clear In previous seasons Liverpool would have struggled against this type of opposition, but this time around going forward the Reds created plenty. WINNERS A close race between Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai who were all superb, but the biggest winner of Sunday afternoon has to be Darwin Núñez. He could have easily been dropped by Klopp after starting the game midweek, and he was in that sense perhaps a surprise starter. But he showed just why Klopp made that choice making a clever run to get in behind West Ham’s defence and scoring yet another goal. He now has six goal contributions in seven games which is all the more impressive considering he only started three of those games. LOSERS Tough to call, but Virgil van Dijk and Joël Matip have to be questioned for their positioning to allow Jarrod Bowen to score for West Ham’s goal. For veteran centre-backs they will know they shouldn’t have afforded that much space to Bowen inside the box, and there was a moment in the second half where West Ham almost repeated that moment once again. That time around, Bowen let the duo off and couldn’t score from his effort. But those moments were definitely concerning during the game. PLAYER RATINGS Alisson Becker — 8 Another solid game, and he made yet another contender for save of the season. Just a standard game for Alisson these days. Joe Gomez — 7 He was solid, particularly defensively. Gomez is in good form lately, and his performance was once again proof of that. Joël Matip — 6 A bit sloppy at times, and West Ham certainly caused him a few problems. Virgil van Dijk — 6 Compared to his standards this was not his game but he redeemed himself with an assist. Andy Robertson — 7 A solid display, Robertson did well to track back and cover, while also making positives runs forward. Alexis Mac Allister — 8 Outstanding, his assist for Liverpool’s second goal was vital in how the game turned out but overall Mac Allister was everywhere. Dominik Szoboszlai — 8 A standard vintage display. Szoboszlai was once again everywhere on the pitch, and dominated possession, dictating the midfield area for Liverpool. Mohamed Salah — 8 Brilliant in every sense of the word, there are now words to describe Salah. Both scoring and creating goals, the Egyptian is excellent. Darwin Núñez — 8 Another goal, the Uruguayan is on fire and he put in another solid display after his heroics in the Europa League, scoring yet again a crucial goal for Liverpool. Coming up clutch these days. Luis Díaz — 6 A little quieter than his teammates, this wasn’t the Colombian’s brightest game but he still troubled West Ham every now and again.
