He can’t run his old age is making him slow,Stewart Robson thinks £50m Man City star is a ‘weak link’ for the team

Manchester City have a number of players in their squad who have been at the club for a significant period of time.

In fact, seven players in City’s current squad have made over 250 appearances for Pep Guardiola since his appointment back in 2016.

Despite those players enjoying very successful periods at the Etihad Stadium in terms of the number of trophies the club have won over the past few years, a pundit has now claimed that one of them has now become a weak link in the team.

Stewart Robson claims John Stones is a weak link in Man City’s defence

In a recent video shared on the ESPN FC YouTube channel, Stewart Robson had this to say about John Stones on the subject of which City players he hasn’t been impressed with recently.

He said: “Stones was taken off at halftime in the FA Cup semi-final and he should have been taken off in the FA Cup final because he can’t run.

“When there are players that can run beyond him, I think he’s a weak link for Man City’s defence and [Ruben] Dias is a much better player.”

Stones needs to have a better season than his last one

As one of City’s longest-serving players, Stones has made 257 appearances across all competitions since arriving from Everton in a deal worth £50m back in 2016.

Looking back over the previous campaign, the Englishman only started 12 of the 16 Premier League games he appeared in.

Despite his sporadic appearances for the Blues last season, Stones played every minute of action for England in their journey to the final of the 2024 European Championship.

In fact, despite Robson’s criticism, Stones found himself on the end of some heavy praise for his performances at the Euros, with Phil Thompson naming him as one of England’s standout players of the tournament.

Moving forward, we feel that the upcoming season will be an important one for Stones if he wants to be a regular figure in Guardiola’s starting XI again.
