ExWHUemployee: David Moyes blown away by Tim Steidten transfer recommendation at West Ham United

David Moyes has been blown away by Tim Steidten’s recommendation to sign VfB Stuttgart defender Konstantinos Mavropanos for West Ham, according to ExWHUemployee.

The Hammers insider reported on his Patreon on 15 August that the move for the Greek international has become “even closer” to happening as they look for alternatives to Harry Maguire.

He said that even though the 25-year-old is a Steidten target, the Irons boss has been impressed by the centre-back’s physical attributes, pace and ability on the ball.

Moving quickly

It appears a move for Mavropanos is moving quickly after West Ham decided to pursue other targets following the breakdown of the deal for Maguire with Man United.

Sky Sports reported via their live transfer blog on Wednesday night (16 August, 07:35pm) that the Hammers are in advanced talks with Stuttgart over the signing of the defender and are nearing an agreement with the Bundesliga side.

After joining from Arsenal last summer, the Greek made 34 appearances for the German club last season, where he scored three goals and laid on one assist to help keep them in the top flight.

He previously made just eight appearances in his four years with the Gunners – seven of which came in the Premier League – so he has a little bit of experience in England behind him.

The centre-back perhaps isn’t of the same calibre as the likes of Maguire, but he should be available for a much cheaper price and the deal is likelier to be easier for us to get over the line.

In other West Ham news, agents are at work to unlock a player’s potential exit from the club.
