THE CLOCK TICKS FOR LIVERPOOL

The right man to rebuild Liverpool? Meet new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke | Goal.com

As the transfer window inches towards its conclusion, Liverpool’s quest for reinforcements remains a hot topic. While the Merseyside club has welcomed three new talents this summer, there’s a sense that something is still amiss. Piero Hincapie, the Bayer Leverkusen defender, emerges as a potential solution.

THE WORD FROM THE INSIDE

Christian Falk, a respected voice in the football journalism community, shed some light on the situation in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing. He highlighted that Liverpool’s sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke, is in active discussions with Leverkusen. Falk mentioned, “Several Premier League outfits have their eyes on Hincapie, and Liverpool might be in the mix.” However, he expressed scepticism about the deal’s feasibility, especially given Leverkusen’s reluctance to part ways with their star. A potential price tag hovering around €70m (£60m) further complicates matters. Falk believes Schmadtke is well aware of the financial implications.

Interestingly, Leverkusen’s interest in securing a loan for Luke Chambers adds another layer to the ongoing negotiations. While talks between Schmadtke and Leverkusen are confirmed, securing Hincapie might prove a bridge too far.

THE HINCAPIE CONUNDRUM

With a hefty £60m price tag, many would question the wisdom of Liverpool pursuing Hincapie. The 21-year-old’s valuation might seem steep, but recent developments could change the narrative. The injury to Ibrahima Konate has undoubtedly sent shockwaves through Anfield, making the prospect of Hincapie’s acquisition more enticing.

Ben Jacobs, another journalist in the fray, suggests that Hincapie might be available for a more reasonable £35m. While this might not align with Leverkusen’s expectations, Jacobs hints that Hincapie could push for a move if such an offer materialises.

With Konate’s return date uncertain and Hincapie reportedly eager to don the red jersey, Liverpool might be tempted to test the waters. Leverkusen’s stance remains the final hurdle. Over to you, Jorg.

News – Liverpool submit offer, move with conviction to secure playmaker signing – Report

In the opening two Premier League games, Jurgen Klopp’s men have faced no fewer than 23 shots (The Athletic).

To make matters worse, the German manager has revealed there are doubts about the presence of Ibrahima Konate in the all important clash against Newcastle United this Sunday.

So, Klopp may have to turn to Gomez or Matip again and the defense must be improved before the window closes next week.

According to Ben Jacobs, Hincapie would be ready to agree a move to Liverpool. The renowned journalist stated (Last Word on Spurs):

“I’m told that, if it is to be a Premier League club, at the moment, the player would love Liverpool but Liverpool are not necessarily sold and West Ham, who have missed out on Harry Maguire, are still another club to watch,”

As per Bild, Klopp is keen on signing the defender but it would take an ‘immoral’ offer to get his signing done.

The famous German media outlet have mentioned that the 21-year-old defender’s current contract with Bayer Leverkusen will expire in 2027 and a fee 70 million euros (£50.9million) will be needed to hire him this summer.

Hincapie started 27 games in the Bundesliga last term and helped Xabi Alonso’s team keep nine clean sheets.

In your view, should Liverpool offer £50.9million to secure his signing?
