Report: Manchester City now plotting swoop for Liverpool target who’s ‘one of the fastest midfielders’ around
Manchester City have reportedly joined Liverpool in the race to sign “one of the fastest midfielders” around.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, Alex Crook told GiveMeSport that the Reds were eyeing Wolves ace Matheus Nunes.
Since then, Liverpool have made three midfield signings, but have lost others to either sales or free agency.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are also looking for more reinforcements in the middle of the park ahead of September.
The Citizens were eyeing Lucas Paqueta, but that was derailed by a FA investigation over potential betting breaches.
Now, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that Man City are exploring a deal to sign Nunes in the coming week.
The reported Liverpool target is ‘high’ on Pep Guardiola’s wishlist, which has a ‘small number of candidates’.
Nunes has previously been linked with the Anfield outfit before, but a move did not materialise.
Unsurprisingly, Wolves are unlikely to welcome City’s interest so close to the end of the summer window.
However, Wolves’ financial position could well make it difficult to resist bids of a certain level for Nunes.

Described by Ruben Neves as ‘one of the fastest midfielders’ around, the £42million man would suit both Liverpool and Man City down to a tee.
Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. Nunes is a great player who, at 24, is yet to hit his prime but is already doing so well.
In addition, he has proven himself at Premier League level, which is key for Liverpool and Man City as there’s a lot of pressure on both of them this season.

“Called the player’s agents” – Fabrizio Romano has just shared Liverpool transfer update
Liverpool are interested in making another midfield addition at Anfield before the closure of the transfer window next week.
Liverpool have called the agents of Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch, as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirms how the player would feel regarding a possible move to Anfield this summer.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp aims to bolster his midfield, having made several additions to the department since the beginning of the transfer window.
Liverpool transfer news – Ryan Gravenberch
According to The Mirror, Liverpool and Manchester United are preparing to battle it out in the remaining days of the transfer window for the signature of Gravenberch.
The North West rivals have tabled contract offers to the 21-year-old, valued at around £22m by Bayern Munich.
Gravenberch is to hold showdown talks with the head coach of the German champions, Thomas Tuchel, having been restricted to a limited number of appearances for the Bundesliga giants last season.
The Netherlands U21 international played in just 937 minutes of action across 33 outings last term, providing two goal contributions.
The Mirror continues to say that Bayern would prefer to allow Gravenberch to leave the Allianz Arena temporarily rather than on a permanent deal.
However, the midfielder has decided to seek more guarantees over minutes on the pitch, having been an unused substitute in Bayern’s first two competitive matches this season.
He fears he will miss out on a place in the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 squad if he continues to sit on the bench this term, which could prompt the talent to force through a move before next Friday’s transfer deadline.
Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has recently told GIVEMESPORT that Gravenberch is “climbing position” on Liverpool’s transfer shortlist, claiming he could leave Bayern before 1st September.
And Romano says that Gravenberch would be open to a Premier League move, having been positive about a switch to England when it was first mooted in January.

What has Romano said about Liverpool and Gravenberch?
When asked if Gravenberch was a name to look out for in the transfer window’s final days, Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “I think yes, it’s not easy. It’s not an easy situation because it depends on Bayern.
“The player would be open to a Premier League move, but he was already open in January. So, it’s a similar situation to the January transfer window.
“Both Liverpool and Manchester United called the player’s agents last week to ask for information regarding how the feeling was on the player’s side and if there is a chance to make it happen. The feedback is always the same. Gravenberch would be open to that possibility.”
What next for Liverpool this summer?
Gravenberch is one of several names linked with a move to Liverpool before next Friday’s transfer deadline.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has recently told GIVEMESPORT that the Reds’ interest in Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips could be “one to keep an eye on.”
The Merseyside outfit were interested in the 27-year-old before his move from Leeds United to the Etihad Stadium last summer, though is thought to want to fight for his place under Pep Guardiola.
Jacobs also tells GMS that Liverpool are reluctant to sell Mohamed Salah this summer despite interest from Saudi Arabia.
The Reds were caught off-guard by the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson but are intent on keeping Salah beyond this summer.

‘Training on his own’: Boss hints ‘outstanding’ Liverpool midfield target will be leaving soon
Liverpool have been given hope of signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat after he was left out of their Europa League squad.
Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano has confirmed that Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat is now training on his own.
Liverpool landed one new midfielder on Friday as Wataru Endo completed his move from Stuttgart to Anfield.
The Reds are still hunting for another midfielder though and Fiorentina star Amrabat appears to be a key target.
Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad reported this time last week that Liverpool were ‘on track’ to sign Amrabat with a £30million deal agreed.
Fabrizio Romano then reported that a deal wasn’t agreed but Liverpool had held talks with both Fiorentina and Amrabat’s representatives.
The Moroccan star – described as ‘outstanding’ by former Manchester United star Roy Keane – appears to be a prime candidate for Liverpool.
Manchester United are also very interested as boss Erik ten Hag worked with Amrabat during their time together at Utrecht.
A premier League move seems to be on the cards and Fiorentina have now opened the door to a transfer.

Fiorentina are preparing to take on Rapid Wien in their Europa Conference League qualifying tie on Thursday.
Eyebrows were raised earlier on Wednesday when Fiorentina announced their travelling squad to Austria.
Amrabat was nowhere to be seen, with everybody of course expecting this to be transfer related.
There had been no reports of injury, illness or personal matters so Amrabat’s exclusion seemed strange.

Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano has now confirmed that Amrabat is training on his own back in Italy.
Italiano indicated that Amrabat will not travel to Austria with a transfer surely on the cards now.
If there was any other reason, this would have been the time to say it – but Italiano just indicated that Amrabat is training on his own.
This seems like the biggest hint yet that Amrabat is on his way out of Fiorentina with Liverpool now hoping to beat Manchester United to his signature.
