Experts say Liverpool have a 20-year-old player who’s actually worth the same as Moises Caicedo now

Liverpool already have a player of equivalent value to former transfer target Moises Caicedo.

Caciedo opted to join Chelsea in a break-neck transfer saga this summer. Despite Liverpool having a £111m bid accepted by Brighton, the Ecuadorian chose to join the Blues instead.

But despite their failure to land a big-money target, Reds fans shouldn’t be too upset. That’s because according to latest valuations from the CIES Football Observatory, Harvey Elliott is just as valuable as Caicedo.

Although the Chelsea man cost an eventual £115m not a month ago, CIES rate him as being a £52m talent. Exactly the same as Elliott.

We’re not saying that we’d rather have one over the other or anything like that, they’re different players. But it’s interesting nonetheless.

Elliott earns Caicedo comparison

When assessing Liverpool’s new-look midfield, Elliott might fairly feel that he’s been overlooked a little.

He clearly still has a part to play. The 20-year-old’s four appearances in the four Premier League games so far would suggest as much. He’s done well every time, too.

But with four shiny new players in his position, Elliott suddenly finds himself with plenty to prove.

With challenges ahead though, don’t expect the former Fulham youngster to wilt and hide. He’s a head-strong young man who simply wants to succeed at Liverpool.

Given his self-made label as a ‘fan on the pitch,’ it can be easy to forget just how good Elliott is. Those in the game know it and if the Reds decided to sell him on, you can bet that all of the big boys would be interested.

Having signed him for a nominal fee four years ago, Liverpool would stand to make an enormous profit in that scenario. But although his value is high, that isn’t something the Reds should entertain.

Brighton had little choice but to move Caicedo on in the end. CIES’ report shows just how much Chelsea overpaid on him. Even as Elliott develops it feels unlikely that he’d ever reach the £100m+ bracket. Nevertheless, you feel this value can still shoot even higher.
