Decision made on Trent Alexander-Arnold goal celebration punishment
Trent Alexander-Arnold scored Liverpool’s equaliser against Man City
Reds full-back celebrated with shushing gestire in front of rival fans
Decision over whether he should face any further action has been made

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold will face no punishment for antagonising Manchester City fans with his goal celebration during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

Alexander-Arnold secured a point for Liverpool with an equaliser in the 80th minute, choosing to celebrate his crucial goal by running over to a corner flag, putting his finger to his lips and making a shushing gesture towards the irate home support.

Such actions would usually be punishable by a yellow card, but Alexander-Arnold got away without a caution in the moment and appears to also be free of any retrospective disciplinary action.

Multiple reports in the aftermath suggest that no further action will be taken and the incident is not something that the FA are even investigating.

The celebration was clearly a deliberate act by Alexander-Arnold, who is quoted as saying later: “It’s always good to celebrate in front of [opposing] fans. Seeing all of the faces is really funny.”

In the wake of the game, which led City midfielder Bernardo Silva to declare Liverpool as being “back”, Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk described Alexander-Arnold as the “complete package”.

“He offers a lot defensively and, obviously in possession, he has qualities that are very special and he shows that as well, so he has the complete package,” Van Dijk assessed in post-match comments to reporters at the Etihad Stadium.

“He has to keep doing what he’s doing, keep improving, keep that high standard he has for himself and we all have for him as well.”

Liverpool trail City in the Premier League by just one point a third of the way into the 2023/24 season, with current leaders Arsenal a point further ahead. But attention in the short-term turns away from domestic football this midweek and onto the Europa League, with Jurgen Klopp’s side in action against LASK of Austria on Thursday and in need of a victory to guarantee progression to the knockout rounds.

Pundit thinks 22-year-old is doomed to fail at Liverpool now, he won’t make it
Tue 28 November 2023 11:00
Dylan Walsh
Curtis Jones has been tipped to fail at Liverpool after the midfielder’s performance for the Reds this weekend against Manchester City.

The England youth international has enjoyed the fairytale career of every Liverpool fan having come through the club’s academy to now being an established member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Now a tutor for younger players, the 22-year-old is very much a regular for Liverpool and is seemingly improving with every season for the Reds.

However, according to pundit Eamon Dunphy via The Stand, Jones doesn’t have what it takes to go all the way at Liverpool and become a superstar for his boyhood club.

Indeed, the midfielder is still young and has impressed on numerous occasions this season, yet for some, Jones won’t amount to much at Liverpool despite being very young in his footballing career.

Dunphy said: “Jones, who is a young Liverpool player who I think isn’t going to go all the way and was substituted and they brought on a guy who I really fancy, Gravenberch, he’s a Dutch player.”

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Few players have the potential to become truly world-class in this era of the game, and Jones would be one of the first to admit that.

Yet going as far as to say the midfielder won’t make it at Liverpool is nothing short of ridiculous, with the midfielder already making over 100 senior appearances for the club at the age of 22.

Whilst Jones might not become the best midfielder in the world, the Toxteth-raised player has everything needed to become a real cult hero for Liverpool, with the youngster improving every year.

Sure, there are players in Liverpool’s squad who have a higher ceiling than the England youth international, but Jones is yet to let the Reds down, and fans are excited to see what’s next for the midfielder.

Liverpool staff so impressed by 25-year-old who may be set to make his first league appearance this season

Liverpool believe that they actually have one of the best backups in the Premier League in Caoimhin Kelleher amid concerns Alisson Becker may be facing a spell on the sidelines.

That is according to a report from The Athletic, which notes that the 25-year-old could now be in line to make only the sixth Premier League appearance of his career after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Liverpool were dealt a major blow towards the end of the game at the Etihad Stadium. Alisson had not his best game, giving away possession for the goal that gave Manchester City the lead.

Liverpool really impressed by Caoimhin Kelleher
And he went down injured late on. With Liverpool using all of their substitutions beforehand, the 31-year-old had to see out the contest. But the Reds now face a nervy wait to see whether he will be out for a substantial period of time.

Photo By Photo by Piaras Ó Mídheach/Sportsfile Photo by Piaras Ó Mídheach/Sportsfile via Getty Images
Should Liverpool lose Alisson to injury, Caoimhin Kelleher will be presented with a chance to feature in the Premier League.

The Republic of Ireland international has not yet played in the top-flight this season. However, he has been involved in the Europa League. And Liverpool are optimistic that Kelleher is ready to fill in for Alisson if needed.

The Athletic reports that Kelleher is seen by the Liverpool hierarchy as one of the best backups across the division. And the Reds refused to consider any offers for the goalkeeper during the summer transfer window.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Reds goalkeeper can put himself in shop window
It is a really good opportunity for Kelleher if Alisson is sidelined for a while. But it is going to be difficult for him to put genuine pressure on the former Roma star.

Alisson could have several more years left at the very highest level. And Kelleher is actually only six years younger. So he will be wary of watching the best years of his career pass him by.

Some may be expecting Kelleher to leave Liverpool at some stage in one of the coming windows. The minutes he gets in the next few weeks could have a big say on how much interest there is in him.

Liverpool preparing €90M bid; Klopp has “convinced” him to join

Liverpool transfer news as Roméo Lavia ‘wants move’ and Jurgen Klopp ‘to bid’ for ‘$45m’

Liverpool are seriously interested in beating Europe’s biggest clubs to Bayer Levekusen prodigy Florian Wirtz and are ready to put their money where their mouth is.

According to Spanish outlet Nacional, Liverpool are preparing an offer to sign Wirtz.

They claim that the Reds are “preparing an offer of €90 million” (£78M) which they believe is the amount “they can offer to convince Alonso’s team to agree to let Wirtz go.”

Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Real Madrid are also “attentive” to any updates on his future at the BayArena.

The report focuses on Barcelona’s interest in the 20-year-old but club president Joan Laporta “seems to have lost hand in hand with Klopp” as the German has “convinced” Wirtz of a move to Anfield.

Liverpool reportedly already have the funds required to sign him in the 2024 summer transfer window in what would be a massive coup.

Wirtz has 6 goals and 10 assists this season and has already comfortably outscored every midfielder at Liverpool.

Of course, Klopp’s midfielders are not instructed to score goals and instead put in the hard yards for the likes of Mohamed Salah to take advantage of.

Hopefully, Wirtz does end up moving to Anfield but Daily Mail reporter Lewis Steele recently poured cold ice on this story.

In a Q&A last week, he told Liverpool fans: “There’s no concrete interest yet in Florian Wirtz but that doesn’t mean he is not on Liverpool’s radar. They look at a lot of players.

“Reports in Germany suggest this one is a lot more advanced than it is. He’s a great player and his statistics are excellent, with Xabi Alonso helping find a new level to his game.

“It’s one to watch in the future but nothing happening yet.”

Man Utd arguably have an academy talent with a higher ceiling than Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo is all the rage for Manchester United at the moment following his fantastic Premier League performance against Everton.

The highly-rated 18-year-old made his first Manchester United appearance since his return from injury – and blew everyone away.

Kobbie Mainoo was so composed in Erik ten Hag‘s side, not looking for a single moment out of place in and among the big boys.

The academy star has a seriously bright future – much like Shea Lacey, who in our opinion could arguably be even better for the Red Devils.

Who is Shea Lacey?
Shea Lacey is a professional footballer who currently plays for Manchester United’s academy sides.

He looks to be a serious talent. As likened by GiveMeSport, the English ‘wonderkid’ has similarities to that of Wayne Rooney. Lacey actually hails from Liverpool but has opted to play for the Red Devils instead of the Reds.

He’s been representing England at all youth levels so far and is playing well above his age grade in United’s academy setup.

MORE UNITED STORIES
He has two goals and three assists in as little as five league games for United’s U18 side this season – but now unfortunately has been ruled out through injury. Bear in mind – the lad is 16 years of age.

We really do regard him as one of the next big things to come out of Manchester United. Watching him play. He just looks like he has the ‘it’ factor.

Kobbie Mainoo’s ceiling is understandably very high – but Lacey’s could seriously be even higher.

How old is Shea Lacey?
He was born on the 14th of April 2007 – which makes him at the time of writing 16 years old.

What position does Shea Lacey play?
Shea Lacey is predominantly a right-winger, who is also left-footed. He can also play attacking midfield.

This is something that Erik ten Hag loves in a forward. It has also meant he has been likened to current England star Phil Foden, who operates in a similar way to Lacey.

How good is he?
There’s a reason Lacey is so highly rated around Carrington. We always knew he was destined for the stars.

He has the capacity to score absolute wonder goals and dazzle defences on that right-hand side. His strong performances on the international stage have only further contributed to his growing reputation at youth level.

We seriously wouldn’t be surprised if he breaks through to the first-team squad at a similar age to Kobbie Mainoo – or even earlier. He has to overcome his recent injury first, however.

Here are some of his best bits below.
