Done deal Liverpool has signed a talented midfieder ….
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Feyenoord captain Orkun Kokcu. The 22-year-old midfielder has been compared to Luka Modric in the past and would bolster the Reds’ squad in the summer transfer window.
It has been a disappointing season so far for Liverpool. They have failed to win any silverware and are likely to miss out on Champions League football next season as well. They are currently fifth with 65 points, one behind Manchester United who have a game in hand.
With the likes of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita set to leave, Liverpool are reportedly looking to recruit two to three midfielders at the end of the season. They have been heavily linked to top prospects like Alexis Mac Allister, Mason Mount, and Nicolo Barella.
However, as per FootballTransfes, another potential target could be Feyenoord’s Orkun Kokcu. The Turkey international can operate as a central and defensive midfielder and would be valued at £35 million, which would be affordable for the Reds. It is also important to note that Liverpool would ideally want to make ‘big’ signings first before potentially going for Kokcu.
Kokcu captained his side to the Eredivisie title this season. He also had a massive impact in doing so, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in 44 appearances.
It thus comes as no surprise that, according to the same report, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in acquiring Kokcu’s signature. Former Liverpool player Mohamed Sissokho even compared Orkun Kokcu to Luka Modric in an interview with TuttoJuve. He claimed that Kokcu had the “same quality of play” as Modric and had the “potential to reach his level.”
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gives his verdict on Adrian and Caoimhin Kelleher
Jurgen Klopp gave his verdict on the futures of goalkeepers Adrian and Caoimhin Kelleher during the Aston Villa pre-match press conference on Friday, May 19.
Both Adrian and Kelleher have struggled for game-time this season, only making one and four appearances respectively. This has been due to the excellent form of the Reds’ number one goalkeeper Alisson Becker as well as their poor performances in the EFL Cup and FA Cup.
Both goalkeepers have been instrumental in Liverpool winning trophies over the years. Kelleher was an integral part in the Reds winning the domestic double last season, putting in a monumental effort in both penalty shootout wins over Chelsea. Adrian, despite being the third-choice keeper, helped the Reds win the Community Shield last summer.
Jurgen Klopp said (via This is Anfield):
“I can’t see… honestly, I can’t see Caoimhin leaving. It must be an extraordinary offer that I start thinking, I have to say.”
“Adrian, if we don’t say goodbye [already] what would that mean? That he probably stays, but if there is nothing in the papers then it is not decided yet finally. We will not do it [say goodbye] just in case, but I have a rather good feeling that we [will] keep working together in that position.”
The Reds next face Aston Villa at home later today (May 20).
