David Ornstein shares what he’s now hearing on Mo Salah deal
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has shared his latest update on the future of Mo Salah at Liverpool. The forward is linked with Saudi Arabia.
David Ornstein gave a Q&A for the Athletic this week where the top of Mo Salah came up. Salah’s future is uncertain right now, with talk at the end of the summer transfer window that Saudi Arabian clubs wanted him.
Not only that, but they were reportedly prepared to pay a record fee to secure the face of Arabic football.
On the face of it, Liverpool wouldn’t dream of selling their star player – one of their greatest ever, in fact. But given Salah is now 31, that kind of money is unprecedented and could kickstart life after the no.11 quite nicely.
Then there’s Salah’s own desires. He’d get a life-changing amount of money for such a move and unlike every other superstar player to move there, the Egyptian would be living in a part of the world he’s accustomed to.
Ornstein, though, isn’t sure that Salah wants to leave Liverpool, however. He was asked in his Q&A whether there was ‘any noise’ around a potential deal right now.
“No, other than I don’t think it’s set in stone he goes,” he said. “I’ve even had some suggestions he would quite like to stay and continue to compete at the highest level in Europe.
“It’s a major decision for player and club, of course.”
This is likely to be the biggest decision Liverpool make over the coming years. Salah is essentially irreplaceable and remains the world’s best right-winger. There just isn’t a viable option for the Reds.
Giving him up for the remaining years of his prime would see a downgrade in the position, then. The question is whether Liverpool can improve the team as a whole with the money they’d recieve.
And that’s if Salah even wants to go. If he doesn’t, this is an easy decision and that’s the outcome Liverpool likely want. Ornstein suggests things might be heading that way – and that sounds like good news.
