Damian Lillard would report to any team’s camp but still prefers Heat,as he was asked to leave

Damian Lillard would report to any team that traded for him but he wouldn’t be happy about it unless he’s dealt to the Heat, according to Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian.

Earlier on Monday, Shams Charania of The Athletic stated on “The Rally” that Lillard would only report to training camp as a member of the Trail Blazers or Heat.

Fentress’ sources told him that Lillard would show up and play for any team that acquired him but his desire to play for the Heat wouldn’t change. That could discourage other potential suitors from giving up major assets for an unhappy perennial All-Star slated to make $45,640,084 during the upcoming season and $48,787,676 for the 2024-25 season, even before his two-year extension estimated at $121,774,03 kicks in.

Lillard, who requested a trade at the beginning of the free agency period in July, originally took a firm stance regarding where he’d report, Fentress adds. However, he backed off when the NBA sent out a memo to all teams in late July, which threatened punishment if he or his agent made further public comments regarding his desire to play for the Heat.

Lillard’s feelings about the Trail Blazers haven’t changed, either. If he’s not dealt before training camp, he’ll show and play for Portland but his desire to be dealt to Miami won’t wane. He doesn’t view the Blazers as a serious contender as currently constructed.

Luka Doncic’s fatal flaw revealed in World Cup
Luka Doncic can beat any player on the basketball court. The referees are a different story. Doncic was ejected from Slovenia’s loss to Canada, which eliminated the team from medal contention. He spent much of the game, especially the second half, complaining to the officials about fouls. To be fair, it was a physical game, but Doncic took it quite far. He even yelled directly at FIBA’s boss, and made the “money” sign, implying that the officials and FIBA were corrupt. That’s like Doncic screaming at NBA commissioner Adam Silver during a playoff game. It’s likely counter-productive, but it also shows that Doncic’s focus is on the officials, and not the team he’s playing against. “Luka Doncic has the potential to be the best player on the planet,” ESPN’s Tim Bontemps said on “The Hoop Collective” podcast. “But for him to get to the final endpoint of what he could be as a player, he has to get past this endless whining and complaining to the refs.” Each of the last two seasons, Doncic has received 17 technical fouls, though the league has later rescinded one or more so Doncic hasn’t been suspended – which usually happens after 16 techs. But it’s not just the suspensions that are an issue with Doncic’s conduct. “The most frustrating thing about Luka’s constantly complaining to referees is that he does it when nine guys are going the other way,” ESPN’s Tim McMahon added. “He’s one of the worst transition defenders in the history of basketball. The game doesn’t stop because you’re upset! When the whistle blows, if you’ve got something to say, say it then.” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd agrees. Not only is this behavior hurting his team, it’s unpleasant to watch. Watching Doncic complain after nearly every missed shot can be exhausting. Plus, by yelling at the referees all the time, it’s counter-productive. Referees try to be objective, but they’re still human beings. It’s hard to expect the benefit of the doubt from an official Doncic has relentlessly yelled at for years. Doncic is as talented as any player in the league. But he won’t be truly great until he can ignore the three referees and start playing 5-on-5, not 5-on-8.

Giants icon rips team for ‘fashion show’ before blowout loss to Cowboys
New York Giants legend and current media personality Tiki Barber voiced an interesting complaint regarding the club’s embarrassing 40-0 home loss to the division-rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. “I hate the walk-ins that they do these days,” Barber said about players during Monday’s edition of the WFAN “Evan and Tiki” program, per Ryan Chichester of Audacy. “Come to work man. Don’t come to a fashion show. Come to work. If you’re great, and you’re (Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver) Justin Jefferson, come in with a $15,000 sweater. I don’t give a crap. But if you have work to do, look like an employee who is coming to work. Not someone trying to show out for Madison Avenue.” Barber was referring to how the Giants and other franchises throughout North American professional sports routinely highlight what players wear into stadiums, arenas and other venues before games: As noted by Chichester, Barber questioned “the Giants’ effort and focus” coming off the humiliating Week 1 defeat that featured Big Blue becoming the first team in NFL history to be out-sacked by seven, lose a turnover battle by three, have a field goal blocked and returned for a touchdown, have an interception returned for a score and lose by 40 points all in the same game. Barber generated headlines last week when he confidently declared that he would take Giants quarterback Daniel Jones over Dallas starter Dak Prescott “100 out of 100 times.” The radio host who also serves as an NFL analyst for CBS Sports sang a much different tune when speaking about his former club on Monday afternoon. “I’m just so annoyed by this team,” Barber added about the Giants. “The last thing I expected was for them to look like they didn’t care. That’s what it felt like watching the Giants [Sunday] night.” The Giants will look to right the ship when they play at the (allegedly tanking) Arizona Cardinals this coming Sunday. As of Monday afternoon, OddsChecker listed the Giants as the favorites (-198, -4.5) to earn the victory in Week 2 regardless of what New York players wear into State Farm Stadium.

Dallas Cowboys Urged To Sign All-Pro Offensive Guard After Tyler Smith Injury Update
The Dallas Cowboys were recently urged to sign a former Washington Commanders offensive guard after Tyler Smith missed the Cowboys game Sunday night against the New York Giants with a hamstring injury. The Cowboys didn’t seem to have many problems without Smith during their 40-0 blowout of the Giants. However, the Cowboys will be in closer games as the season progresses. One publication is urging the Cowboys to sign a veteran offensive lineman. The Dallas Cowboys urged to sign Andrew Norwell Bleacher Report recently published a piece identifying a free agent each NFL team could use after Week 1. All-Pro offensive guard Andrew Norwell was named as a free agent the Cowboys should add to their offensive line for the season: “Starting left guard Tyler Smith missed Sunday night’s game against the Giants with a hamstring injury, and the Cowboys could use some depth on the interior of their offensive line anyway with rookies Asim Richards and T.J. Bass as the only backups on the roster. Norwell would bring over some much-needed experience in the trenches for Dallas with his 127 career starts. Also, it doesn’t hurt that he played for the Commanders last year, so he has some familiarity with the NFC East.” Norwell would be a good addition for the Cowboys. The 31-year-old offensive lineman would provide veteran depth for a young offensive line roster. While Norwell hasn’t been as effective in the previous few years as he was in the 2017 season, he could help in an emergency.

NFL Week 1 winners: Lions’ statement win, Brock Purdy silences haters
With most of the Week 1 NFL schedule in the books, here are the players and coaches that delivered standout performances: Dan Campbell, head coach, Detroit Lions: Campbell admitted he believed the Lions were the Kansas City Chiefs’ hand-picked Week 1 opponent simply because they would put up a good fight. They did one better: they held reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes to 226 yards passing and the third-worst completion percentage (53.8) of his career while edging the defending Super Bowl champions in a statement-making win. Campbell and the Lions players have done their best to quiet the enormous amount of hype surrounding them heading into Week 1, but after knocking off Mahomes and the Chiefs, that may prove to be a much more difficult task. Jordan Love, QB, Green Bay Packers: Love out-dueled Bears QB Justin Fields, throwing for 245 yards and three touchdowns with a 123.3 passer rating and no turnovers as the Packers continued their dominance over their NFC North rivals (they’ve won nine straight, including five in a row at Soldier Field). Not only that, but Love’s debut performance was actually better than both Aaron Rodgers (227 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, 105.8 passer rating) and Brett Favre (214 yards, one touchdown, one interception, 69 passer rating) in their respective first starts with Green Bay. Tyreek Hill, WR, Miami Dolphins: Hill’s lofty goal of reaching 2,000 receiving yards this season may not actually be that improbable after all. Especially if he has more performances like he did in Sunday’s 36-34 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Hill hauled in 11 receptions, 215 yards and two touchdowns. It’s the fourth 200-yard game of his career and a great way to start his pursuit of Calvin Johnson’s NFL single-season receiving yards record (1,964). That year, Johnson had two 200-yard games and averaged 122.7 yards per contest over 16 games. Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers: As 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa put it: “Purdy shut some haters up.” The 23-year-old QB completed 19 of 29 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns with a passer rating of 111.3 in San Francisco’s 30-7 shellacking of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Purdy played with confidence, poise and efficiency and showed why the 49ers front office was high enough on him throughout the offseason to trade former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys. Purdy is now 6-0 as a starter in the regular season with 1,318 yards, 13 touchdowns and two interceptions. Sean McVay, head coach, Los Angeles Rams: The Rams have the second-youngest roster in the NFL with a league-high 15 rookies, but that didn’t bother McVay, who took a team of relatively unknowns and cruised to a 30-13 blowout of the Seattle Seahawks, a division rival and playoff team last season. Second-year wideout Tutu Atwell and rookie Puka Nacua combined for 16 receptions and 238 yards while the defense held a Seahawks offense that averaged 351 yards per game a season ago to 180 yards. Sunday’s win was one of McVay’s better coaching jobs. Calvin Ridley, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars: In his first game since Oct. 24, 2021, Ridley put opposing defenses on notice that he was officially back. The former first-round pick logged eight receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown as the Jaguars knocked off the Indianapolis Colts 31-21. Ridley is just the fifth different Jags receiver to record 100 yards in a game since Trevor Lawrence became the starter in 2020 and his performance is just the 10th time in 35 starts Lawrence has had a receiver top 100 yards. With all due respect to Christian Kirk and Zay Jones, Lawrence finally has a bona-fide No. 1 receiver to throw to, which should help him unlock even more of his potential. Bill O’Brien, offensive coordinator, New England Patriots: In his first game back as offensive coordinator, the Patriots offense looked miles better under O’Brien in Sunday’s 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles than it did last year with Matt Patricia calling plays. New England put up 382 yards of total offense while QB Mac Jones logged his fifth career 300-yard game and fifth three-touchdown game. While the Pats took the loss, there’s much to be encouraged about offensively. Baker Mayfield, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Given his experience, many expected Mayfield to win the Bucs quarterback competition with 25-year-old Kyle Trask. But what they might not have expected was for the 28-year-old QB to lead Tampa Bay to a season-opening win over the reigning NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings, who went 13-4 last season and were the No. 3 seed in the NFC. Mayfield was an efficient 21-of-34 for 173 yards, two touchdowns and no turnovers with a 94.4 passer rating.

Ex-Aaron Rodgers teammate trashes MetLife Stadium turf
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with an injury moments into his season debut at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. One of Rodgers’ former teammates believes the venue’s turf could have played a role in the injury. Green Bay Packers tackle David Bakhtiari didn’t mince words when he called out the NFL as the Jets played on without Rodgers Monday. The Packers star blamed the league for not getting rid of artificial turf, which he suggests played a role in Rodgers’ injury. It’s not the first time that the MetLife Stadium turf has been blamed for injuries. The NFL responded to the previous controversy and asserted that there was nothing wrong with the turf. Rodgers was initially listed as “questionable to return” before being ruled out for the rest of the game against the Jets. His side managed to pull off the win without him, toppling the Buffalo Bills 22-16 in overtime.

Packers’ David Bakhtiari has blunt response to Aaron Rodgers injury
Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is hurt. On just his third drop back as the quarterback of the New York Jets, he was sacked by Buffalo Bills pass rusher Leonard Floyd. He suffered an ankle injury and was carted off the field and into the locker room. Thankfully, X-rays were negative; his ankle is not broken. However, he is out for the rest of the game and when he will be able to play again is unknown. Remember, the Packers’ conditional second round pick that they got as part of their trade of Rodgers becomes a first round pick if he plays 65% of New York’s offensive snaps. As one might imagine, the Rodgers injury was the talk of social media. One of his former teammates and close friend, David Bakhtiari, had a strong message for the NFL following the injury. If anyone knows about leg injuries and how hard they are to recover from. He also knows how artificial turf, which Metlife stadium has, can cause injuries, make them worse and even end careers. He voiced his frustrations, directed at the NFL, on X: Bakhtiari tore his ACL while practicing with the Packers on December 31, 2020. He missed the entire 2021 season, except for the final game against the Detroit Lions. He was then unable to play in the playoffs due to the setback he suffered as a result of the turf in Detroit. Many believe that had he been healthy, the Packers could have won the NFC Championship game in 2020. The issue of turf fields is one that has been brought up by numerous players throughout the years. It simply is not a good surface to play on. Injuries can happen anywhere on any surface, but Rodgers probably does not hurt his ankle if he was playing on grass.
