Tottenham star urged to complete shock transfer to Manchester CityPublished: 15:00 on June 12th 2024 | Last Updated: 14:13 on June 12th 2024By Harry Winters

Tottenham and Argentina centre-back Cristian Romero has been urged to consider a future move to Manchester City.

The 26-year-old has been at Tottenham in north London since 2021 and made 33 Premier League appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side during the recent campaign, with the defender also scoring five goals.

Romero signed for Β£42 million from Atalanta, and has become a key member of the Tottenham Hotspur squad since his arrival from the Serie A.

The Argentinian defender forced Ederson to miss Manchester City’s final two matches of the campaign against West Ham United and Manchester United last month, after a collision between the two South American’s left the goalkeeper with a fractured eye socket.

Romero will be part of the Argentina squad to compete at the Copa America in the United States this summer, with Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez also part of Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the tournament.

Former Argentina centre-back Sergio Vazquez wants the two Premier League players to feature together more often, after the defender urged Romero to consider a move to Manchester City in an attempt to further his development.

β€œI would like to see him at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City,” Vazquez told La Oral Deportiva.

β€œHe is the best number 2 in history of Argentine football. We are in the presence of someone who can come out playing, who can burst it, who has presence and who if he has to hit, he hits you. At his age, he is a kid who gives you confidence when the ball comes to him.

β€œWe found a central duo for the next 10 years. Both (Lisandro) MartΓnez and Cuti have oriented controls that allow them to reduce the time when giving a pass.”

Manchester City are expected to make numerous transfer additions this summer but not in central defence, as Pep Guardiola seeks to bolster his midfield and wide attacking options ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Sky Blues also added defender Josko Gvardiol last August, signing the Croatian for Β£77.6 million from RB Leipzig.

REAL MADRID NEWSReal Madrid plan to improve superstar duo’s contracts after Kylian Mbappe arrivalPublished 2 hours ago on June 12, 2024By Anas Ali
Kylian Mbappe’s €15 million per season salary at Real Madrid pales in comparison to the forward’s earlier salary at Paris Saint-Germain, although he has been given the lion share’s of his image rights (80%).

However, the Frenchman still joins the club becoming the highest-paid player at the Santiago Bernabeu – a tagline that is sure to raise some eyebrows in the dressing room.

Keeping that in mind, Real Madrid are expected to take certain measures that can help them prevent any disruptions in the dressing room.

Real Madrid to revisit Bellingham, Vinicius contracts
With Kylian Mbappe’s €15 million yearly salary setting a new standard, AS suggests Real Madrid are preparing to address the contracts of Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham to maintain harmony within the dressing room.

It appears the Spanish giants intend to improve the contracts of both Vinicius and Bellingham, on account of their importance in the team.

Both players, after all, have played an integral role in helping Real Madrid secure the league title as well as the 15th UEFA Champions League trophy.

Mbappe will become Real Madrid’s top earner (Photo by FRANCK FIFE/AFP via Getty Images)
Vinicius, who scored in the UCL final against Borussia Dortmund, ended the season as Real Madrid’s top scorer with 25 goals.

Bellingham, meanwhile, also racked up 23 goals in his first season at Santiago Bernabeu and is one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or.

Although some may see Mbappe as a far bigger star compared to either of these stars, thus warranting a bigger salary, Real Madrid are serious about avoiding any discrepancies in the dressing room.

As such, the club will look to improve the contracts of both Bellingham and Vinicius, at least in the short term.

However, it must be noted that a new signing becoming Real Madrid’s top earner is not a new phenomenon at the Bernabeu. The same thing has happened in the past with Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009 and Eden Hazard in 2019.

REAL MADRID NEWSFrance NT growing concerned about Real Madrid star’s fitness ahead of EurosPublished 6 seconds ago on June 12, 2024By Adithya EshwarlaPhoto by FRANCK FIFE/AFP via Getty Images
Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni is currently with the French National Team in preparation for the upcoming European Championships.

Didier Deschamps and Co. were hoping that the defensive midfielder would make a complete recovery from the stress injury on his left foot in time for the Euros, but his situation does not appear as favourable any longer.

With the commencement of the competition approaching fast, the French setup are worried and must make a decision fast, as revealed by SPORT.

Long time out
Les Bleus are still living in the optimism that Tchouameni will make it back in time for the premier event. With every passing day, however, the Real Madrid star’s availability is looking more distant.

After all, the deep-lying midfielder last played over a month ago in Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League semifinal against Bayern Munich. Since then, he missed four league games, the UCL final and two friendly games with the national team.

Tchouameni has been injured for over a month. (Photo by INA FASSBENDER/AFP via Getty Images)
Should the Frenchman recover in time, there will be questions raised about his match-fitness and rightly so for 40 days is a very long hiatus in the world of football.

Urgent decision
The medical team of the French national setup have reportedly devised a specific plan to ensure that the youngster recovers at the earliest and is available for the event in Germany.

Deschamps, however, has a critical decision to make as he will not be allowed to make any changes to his squad after the tournament begins. His deadline, thus, is the 17th of June before his team’s clash against Austria.

The manager hopes to recover Tchouameni at all costs and will likely wait until the nth minute before taking a decision.

Should a replacement be required, a UEFA Medical Committee doctor will have to confirm that the injury is indeed as serious as the camp believe.

OFFICIAL: Man City sign Croatian midfielder Ante Palaversa for fee of Β£7m
31 Jan / autty
Manchester City have completed the signing of Hajduk Split midfielder Ante Palaversa, the club have announced on deadline day.

article image
The Croatian teenager has put pen to paper on a deal with the Premier League champions after completing a medical on Tuesday.

Palaversa, 18, will be sent back to Hadjuk on loan until 2020, but City have the option to recall him in January of the same year.

The young playmaker expressed his delight after the transfer was made official on Thursday: ” I’m Hajduk’s saying, playing at the Poljud was always my dream, and after all, I’m happy to see the work of the Hajduk Academy recognized one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“Thanks to Manchester City on the trust, there is still a lot of work ahead for me, I have not yet shown all I can and I hope to play for Hajduk to justify the great trust I received from England champions.”

Palaversa has played 14 matches for Hadjuk this season and contributed two goals, developing quickly and enhancing his repuation as a talented future star with each passing game.

He has represented Croatia at every youth level between U-14 and U-19, with some suggestion that he could be called up to the senior squad for Euro 2020 if he continues on his current trajectory.

Manchester City will not be able to utlise his talents for a year or so yet, but regular football in his homeland should see him improve at a more dramatic rate before he joins his new teammates at the Etihad Stadium.

Palaversa is the English giant’s first signing of the January window, despite the fact Pep Guardiola had been looking at signing a new defensive midfielder, to provide cover for Fernandinho.

City are currently second in the Premier League, five points behind Liverpool with 14 matches left to play.

Guardiola’s men also have a Carabao Cup final against Chelsea to look forward to, while they also negotiate the latter rounds of both the FA Cup and Champions League, with an unprecendented quadruple still within their sights.

Tears as Premier League best player collapse dies on the pitch while on international duty today😭

Man City: Guardiola waves β€˜painful goodbye’ to key star with Citizens β€˜shook’ as Euro giants β€˜convince’ player

Man City and Pep Guardiola are set to lose Kyle Walker to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The former Sheffield United right-back was linked with a move to Bavaria last summer with Thomas Tuchel making Walker his top transfer target for the summer window.

There were even reports claiming that the England international wanted to β€˜personally’ inform Guardiola that he wanted to leave the Citizens.

Walker stayed at Man City with the Premier League club announcing last September that he had signed a new three-year contract to keep Walker at the Etihad Stadium until 2026.

Bayern Munich back in for Kyle Walker?
However, the rumour mill has started again surrounding Walker’s future with Bayern Munich reportedly set to revisit their interest in the next transfer window.

The 33-year-old has again been an integral part of Guardiola’s side who are chasing a Double and were unlucky to lose to Real Madrid on penalties in the Champions League quarter-finals to end their hopes of a back-to-back Treble.

But now Spanish publication Nacional insists that Guardiola is set to wave a β€˜painful goodbye’ to Walker in the summer in a transfer that will β€˜shake’ Man City.

It is understood that Bayern Munich β€˜will return to the fray for a player who fits them perfectly’ as they look to take β€˜one of the pillars’ of Guardiola’s team to the Bundesliga.

The Bavarians are β€˜still in love with Kyle Walker and would try to sign him for next season’ with Nacional claiming that Bayern have managed to β€˜convince’ the defender to join.

Man City β€˜could be demoted to the Championship’
Man City have other potential worries ahead of them too with the Citizens facing 115 charges for alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial fair play rules.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters recently revealed that Man City’s case will be heard in the β€œnear future”, he said: β€œObviously we can’t comment on the case, the date has been set and the case will resolve itself at some point in the near future, and I cannot make any further comment on it.”

Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed on Sunday that Man City β€˜are unlikely to be relegated to League Two but could be demoted to the Championship due to issues surrounding the integrity of the league following the 115 charges aimed at them’.

Man City are adamant they haven’t breached the rules and it is understood that the β€˜maximum punishment the Citizens could receive would be relegation to the Championship’.

TRANSFERSClub president outlines three transfer conditions during face-to-face talks for Manchester City defender.

Real Sociedad and Manchester City are still to agree a structure for the summer transfer of Sergio Gomez following face-to-face talks.

The 23-year-old could leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, after the full-back made just 15 appearances and four starts for Pep Guardiola’s side during the recent 2023/24 campaign.

The Spaniard was an unused substitute on 35 occasions last term and has made only 38 appearances across all competitions since signing from RSC Anderlecht in August 2022 for Β£11 million.

Gomez has won six trophies including two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League since his arrival in east Manchester, but hasn’t featured for Manchester City since April’s win over Brighton at the AMEX Stadium.

The full-back is contracted at the Etihad until 2026 but looks set to depart the Premier League club this summer, with the potential for a return to his native Spain, amid interest from La Liga outfit Real Sociedad.

Gomez has been identified as a replacement for Kieran Tierney in San Sebastian, after the Scotsman concluded a season-long loan with the Spanish side and returned to north London.

Gomez is β€˜awaiting news’ on the potential transfer after Real Sociedad discovered that they would be unable to meet Manchester City’s fee, according to a report relayed by Sport Witness.

The La Liga club still want to complete a deal, however and are claimed to be planning a counter proposal of a loan agreement with an option to buy, which would also include a high sell-on clause.

A transfer is described as β€˜complex’ but Real Sociedad are claimed to be β€˜willing to do what is necessary’ to secure the signature of Gomez this summer.

Phillips opted to move to West Ham United on loan in January in an attempt to secure more regular minutes after facing similar struggles to Gomez in east Manchester.

Florian Wirtz personal terms ‘agreed’ as Man City ‘battle’ Real Madrid and Liverpool for Β£127m deal

Manchester City have seemingly lost ground in the race for Florian Wirtz – as Real Madrid have reportedly moved into pole position to complete a Β£127m transfer in the summer of 2025.

As one of the youthful stand-out stars of Bayer Leverkusen’s invincible Bundesliga title-winning campaign and now baying for Euro 2024 success on home soil, German talent Wirtz has been said to attract suitors from across the continent. City have been floated as one potential destination from numerous sources, although the latest update is not good news for the Blues.

According to Marca, there are two agreements in place that pave the way for the 21-year-old to complete a switch from the BayArena to the Santiago Bernabeu – not the Etihad Stadium – in a year’s time.

The first accord is between the player, his representatives and his current club, Leverkusen. This is to ensure he remains with the German champions until the end of the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

The second is also a verbal one with Real Madrid, agreeing personal terms in order to complete the move to Spain in 2025. They claim that money will be no object for Los Blancos chief Florentino Perez, as the deal could reach as high as €150m (Β£127m).

This follows on from a recent report in Germany detailing Real Madrid’s interest, in which it was stated the playmaker and manager Xabi Alonso are being lined up for moves to the Champions League holders in the same summer. Alonso, who was heavily linked with the Liverpool job once Jurgen Klopp announced he was stepping down, has also been mentioned as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola at City.

Guardiola only has one year left on his contract and has hinted that he will leave the club next summer when it expires.

For now, Wirtz is focusing on his first international tournament in his homeland. Germany open the tournament against Scotland before completing Group A with matches against Hungary and Switzerland.

The playmaker has been tipped as a potential successor for Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian has a year left on his deal and is now 32, having been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Having recovered from an ACL injury before the start of the campaign, Wirtz has enjoyed a breakout campaign with goals and assists both reaching double figures. According to reports, Wirtz has no interest in leaving the Bundesliga club until at least 2025 which is perfect timing for City to make their move – unless Madrid get there first.

Noel Gallagher believes Pep Guardiola’s love for Manchester City and his relentless nature could persuade him to sign an extension at the Etihad past next summer.

City fan and former Oasis frontman Gallagher has a personal line to Guardiola, exchanging texts, calls and even voicenotes with the Blues boss throughout the season. With Guardiola’s contract expiring next summer, and no guarantee he will extend his reign into a tenth season, fans are clinging onto anything they can that may indicate a new deal is in the pipeline.

While Gallagher doesn’t have any inside information on an extension, he has said that he believes Guardiola still has the hunger and desire to go on past next summer.

Speaking to the Athletic, Gallagher said: β€œI speak to him quite a bit and he’s never given me any inkling that he’s not 1,000 per cent happy living in Manchester. I can play you messages where you’d go, β€˜That doesn’t sound like anyone is retiring from football soon’. He sends me texts and leaves voice notes about how much he loves the club. He’s one of us, believe me.”

Man City now expect to win case against Premier League – sources.

Manchester City will be expecting to win their case against the Premier League after bringing forward a legal battle over the associated party transaction (APT) rules.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed there will be other top-flight clubs backing Man City’s case due to frustrations around the regulations on commercial deals.

The Premier League champions have pursued legal action against the governing body regarding the APT rules currently in place, with the club claiming the regulations are β€œunlawful”.

If the rules weren’t in place, clubs could agree sponsorship deals as high as they wanted with no challenge, increasing the amount they could spend under the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

O’Rourke revealed Man City will be confident they will come out on top over the Premier League after Uefa previously tried to ban them from competing in European competitions.

They were handed a two-year suspension in February 2020 by Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB), but the penalty was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in July that year.

Man City relationship with Premier League β€œtoxic” ahead of hearing
Man City’s relationship with the Premier League has already been strained by their 115 charges, which are due to be heard in November across a six-week period.

The governing body’s CEO Richard Masters decided not to go to the Etihad for the final game of the season, where the Manchester club lifted the trophy for a fourth year in a row following their victory over West Ham.

O’Rourke suggested that decision shows how β€œtoxic” matters have become between the Premier League and Man City ahead of the APT case.

The case is on track to be settled after a two-week private arbitration hearing starting on Monday (10 June).

Gareth Southgate’s decision to omit Jack Grealish from his final England squad for the Euro 2024 has reportedly stunned Germany players.

And according to The Independent, Grealish’s omission has ‘stunned’ members of the German national team, as the 28-year-old is someone who ‘provokes fear in opposition when he runs at them.’

The same feeling is reportedly not shared about Eze, despite the Eagles star coming off a more productive domestic season and impressive display in England’s 3-0 win over Bosnia last week.

β€˜World-class’ player Arsenal want to sign has just made Man City his β€˜first-choice destination’

Arsenal have been dealt a blow as one of their big summer transfer targets prefers a move to Manchester City instead.

The Gunners have gone toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola’s side for two consecutive seasons in the Premier League. They fell five points short in the 2022/23 campaign and finished two behind last term.

Bruno Guimaraes makes transfer decision after Arsenal and Manchester City links
Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes is expected to be a wanted man this summer.

The Brazilian joined the Magpies in January 2022 and has since been one of their best players. He has made a fantastic name for himself in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old scored seven goals and provided 10 assists for Newcastle last season, and that seems to have impressed many clubs.

Arteta’s side need reinforcements in the middle of the park. Declan Rice has done well there, but if they sign the β€˜world-classβ€˜ Guimaraes, the two midfielders can form a sensational partnership together.

Three midfielders Arsenal could sign if Guimaraes goes to City
Arsenal’s plans for midfield are very flexible this summer thanks to Rice.

The Englishman showed in the 2023/24 season that he can play both as a number six and in a box-to-box role on the left side of Arsenal’s midfield.

So, Arsenal could either sign a defensive midfielder or a number eight this summer.

Liverpool to be hurt by Man City case ‘in particular’; FSG are in big trouble

Liverpool and Arsenal will be hurt by Manchester City’s battle against the Premier League, according to one expert.

Manchester City shocked world football this week as they mounted a legal challenge against the Premier League. To say it wasn’t well-received would be an understatement – they’re essentially threatening the very fabric of English football.

a fight the Premier League must win for the sake of the game. But it’s also one that could affect Liverpool greatly.

That’s the point made by Keith Wyness, the former Everton CEO who now runs a consultancy that advises elite football clubs. He believes the likes of the Reds and Arsenal could suffer enormously if City get their way.

β€œThis argument is about trying to protect PSR, with City trying to blow it up,” he told Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast. β€œIf they were to be successful, it would polarise things into the haves and the have-nots.

Man Utd Transfers: ‘Increased Bid Coming’ For €120m-rated Star As Man City Dream Fades Fast
Man Utd to destroy Man City transfer dream with β€˜increased bid coming’ for €120m star Guardiola loves
James Marshment 5 hours ago

Joao Neves of Benfica is wanted by both Manchester United and Manchester City this summer

Manchester United are reportedly ready to launch a mammoth improved bid to win the race for Joao Neves this summer and beat Manchester City to his signature and end the transfer aims of both Pep Guardiola and Bernardo Silva in the process.

The Red Devils are preparing for what they hope will be a big summer on the transfer front as INEO chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to make his mark at Old Trafford. Having acquired a 27.7% stake in the club from the Glazers and with it gaining full sporting control, the British billionaire has ambitious plans to transform the fortunes of Manchester United.

For too long now, United have been forced to take a backseat and watch their two arch-rivals in Liverpool and Manchester City dominateΒ  the hunt for silverware in England, though two cup wins in two years for United have punctured their duopoly and illustrated the Red Devils are also capable of competing.

GO DEEPERΒ πŸ”΄βšͺ⚫ The four problem positions Ratcliffe must fix at Man Utd and who might solve their weaknesses

Ratcliffe, however, is determined to turbo-charge a major improvement at Old Trafford that will see the club looking to strengthen the spine of their team. To that end, TEAMtalk understands the Man Utd chief wants to make a minimum of four new signings, with a central defender, a midfielder, a new striker and a new right-sided attacker all on his wishlist.

However, the club will need to make sacrifices too to keep on the right side of the Premier League’s strict new FFP regulations. The exits of Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane (on a combined Β£590,000 a week – or a staggering Β£30.68m per year) will help, while other high earners, such as Casemiro, likely to follow.

Man Utd ready to offload high earners
The first major sale of the summer, though, could see United hit badly in the pocket with a crippling Β£41.5m loss expected on their initial investment into Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

All these sacrificed, though, are necessary with Ratcliffe, alongside sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox looking to fine-tune their playing squad and add a much-needed dose of additional quality.

And with the type of targets United looking at in both defence and midfield unlikely to come cheap, the focus for the Red Devils will undoubtedly be on quality over quantity.

Ashworth’s job will be on ensuring United sign both the right characters and do not pay over the odds to land them. To often in he past the Red Devils have been seen as easy targets when it comes bringing in new players. The extortionate fees paid to Ajax two summers ago for Lisandro Martinez and Antony are testament to that – and Ashworth will need to ensure the days of United being bullied in the market are no more.

It is that policy that has come to pass with their first concrete move of the summer window for Benfica midfielder Neves.

The teenage midfielder has emerged as one of European football’s best No 6’s around, with his talents already winning acclaim from his compatriot and United skipper, Bruno Fernandes.

Tipped to be one of the stars of the upcoming European Championships, Neves has a blockbuster €120m (Β£102.1m) exit clause in his Benfica deal, making any such move difficult to pull off.

Man Utd transfers: Improved bid coming for Man City target Joao Neves
However, United believe a deal is there to be done and have already seen an opening €60m (Β£51.1m) proposal laughed off.

But while that opening gambit has been laughed off, it’s now claimed that United β€˜have an increased bid coming’ in a bid to β€˜steal a march’ on their rivals in the race for the 19-year-old.

While the actual amount is not disclosed, it’s believed United could raise their offer to €75m (Β£63.9m) for the player, while also adding in a string of add-ons that could take the fee nearer the €85m (Β£72.4m) mark.

United are well aware of the need to act with haste to win this particular transfer face. Benfica are keen to tie the midfielder down to a new deal and raise his exit clause further towards the €150m mark – making their prospects of a deal now even tougher to negotiate.

IN DEPTH πŸ”΄βšͺ⚫ Seven Casemiro replacements Man Utd could buy this summer as they target perfect Kobbie Mainoo partner

And there is also the small matter of Manchester Cityβ€˜s reported interest, with Portuguese reports claiming the midfield sensation is also very much adored by Guardiola and a player he would love to have at the Etihad.

Indeed, City’s chances of a deal have also been talked up by Bernardo Silva, who opes to convince the player to move to the blue half of Manchester this summer.

β€œAs a Portuguese and a player I like, I’d like to see him alongside me. But I want the best for him,” Silva said of his compatriot.

Silva added:Β β€œGuardiola? I don’t need to convince him. Joao Neves is already convincing because of the way he works and the energy he brings to the game.

β€œHe won’t be a cheap player, it won’t be easy for many clubs to get in on the act.

β€œLet him make his decision, let it be what’s best for him. If he keeps up this energy, he has a very good future ahead of him.”

Neves has already clocked up 75 senior games for Benfica, scoring four times, and has been capped six times by his country.

Erling Haaland became ‘dressing room burden’ after Pep Guardiola dropped transfer hint

Erling Haaland became a ‘burden on the dressing room’ in his final few months at Dortmund – especially after Pep Guardiola dropped a huge hint he was going to sign him.

The Norwegian goal machine couldn’t keep out of the news toward the tail-end of the 2021/22 season, with the endless speculation putting strain on the BVB dressing room.

Haaland had been at the Westfalenstadion for two-and-a-half years and after banging in 86 goals in 89 games, the biggest clubs in the world were queueing up to sign him, particularly since he had a rather convenient Β£51million release clause in his contract.

Manchester City ultimately won the race for his signature in May 2022, but only after launching a charm offensive, which began nearly a year earlier. Guardiola openly lavished Haaland with praise as early as June 2021, telling reporters he was one of the very best around.

“The numbers speak for themselves,” the Spaniard said. “Of course, he’s one of the best strikers in the world right now at his age… I know the quality of this player and I think everyone knows.”

Speaking just a few weeks after Haaland’s departure, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl insisted the clamour around the superstar forward had become a bother both internally and externally and even claimed the club were happy to be rid of him.

“As much as we have always appreciated Erling and the success he has had with our shirt, in the end, the matter had definitely become a burden, both in the dressing room and for the club,” he told German outlet Bild. “In general, for the whole environment, it was just him. The timing of the sale was right, both for us and for City.”

Haaland went on to score an eye-watering 52 goals in his first season at the Etihad Stadium, helping Guardiola’s men seal an historic Treble in the process. The club followed that up by winning the Premier League for a fourth successive year in Haaland’s second season, with the ex-Molde striker scoring 38 times in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Dortmund have been faring pretty well since Haaland’s exit. They finished level on points with Bayern Munich at the end of the 2022/23 season, agonisingly losing out on the Bundesliga title on goal difference.

Their domestic form suffered last season, with Edin Terzic’s men sealing a disappointing fifth-place finish, but they did reach the final of the Champions League, where they were beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid.
