Chris Sutton has slammed the Daily Mail’s Dominic King after the journalist said Erling Haaland currently commands more respect from fans than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, the pundit shot down a claim from the reporter that the Manchester City striker is rated higher than the Liverpool superstar.

Sutton said: “I don’t know who you are mixing with! I think most people I know speak about Mo Salah in glowing terms.

“Just because Erling Haaland has had a better first season, are you mythed by that? Why can’t we be happy for both? And who are you talking to?!”

Indeed, Salah’s status amongst the Premier League greats should not be undermined, with the winger arguably the best player Liverpool have ever had in this era of English football.

And whilst claims about Haaland make sense after his record-breaking year, there’s no denying that Salah deserves as much respect than the City striker.

Signed for £34m in 2017, it’s hard to think of a better-for-value in recent Premier League memory than Salah, who has been key for Liverpool ever since his arrival from AS Roma.

Whilst Haaland could one day depart England with a better goals-to-game ratio than the winger, Salah is still on another level to the City star when it comes to Premier League reputation.

Having won essentially every trophy available, Salah’s legacy far surpasses what Haaland has managed so far in Manchester, with the Egyptian king place amongst the Premier League greats as things stand.
