BREAKING NEWS: Tottenham has successfully signed Liverpool, Aston Villa and Madrid target…..

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is personally “driving” a Spurs move for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, according to reports.

Who could Spurs sign this summer?
As the transfer window officially opens for business today, the time for a major Spurs rebuild is now upon us, with many players being tipped to potentially leave or come through the door.

Postecoglou’s arrival marks the return of attacking football and a 4-3-3 formation, meaning chairman Daniel Levy must now scour for players who suit his system.

Of the players who could depart N17, there are many, with over 11 players being linked to leaving. Indeed, Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, Lenglet, Eric Dier and Ben Davies have all been tipped to potentially exit, while Spurs are also apparently planning to offload Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks (The Telegraph).

Meanwhile, it is believed Postecoglou has green-lit plans to sign a new centre-back, with reports suggesting Spurs are also hunting for a new goalkeeper to succeed Lloris. Maddison, who looks set to leave Leicester following their relegation from the top flight, is a firm transfer target as well.

The Lilywhites, according to reports, are contending with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle for the England international with reliable journalist Nizaar Kinsella of The Evening Standard sharing an update.

According to his information, while the Magpies are confident of beating Spurs to Maddison, Postecoglou is personally “driving” a move to bring him to Hotspur Way.

The Foxes will apparently demand around £45m and he is set to be sold after Leicester’s drop to the Championship, with Spurs targeting a creative playmaker this summer.

Postecoglou has given his green-light to moving for Maddison, but with Newcastle now “frontrunners”, Spurs could face a tougher task of signing him.

Who is James Maddison?
The Three Lions ace was, by some distance, Leicester’s best player last season.

According to Who Scored, he stood out as their best-performing player by average match rating, all whilst totalling an impressive 19 goal contributions in the league alone (10 goals, nine assists).

Maddison also averaged more attempts at goal and key passes made per 90 than any other Leicester player, highlighting why Postecoglou is so keen to bring him to north London.

Journalist Josh Bunting, taking to Twitter last year, heaped praise on the 26-year-old – claiming he can be “unplayable” when at his very best.

Whoever wins the race for Maddison will surely have a real player on their hands.

Spurs: Postecoglou nears David Raya “agreement”

The ex-Celtic boss looks to be edging closer to a first summer signing

Tottenham Hotspur appear to be inching ever closer to wrapping up a deal for Brentford goalkeeper, David Raya, with the Spaniard having been earmarked as the top target to replace long-serving skipper Hugo Lloris at N17.

What’s the latest on Raya to Tottenham?

According to Italian journalist, Rudy Galetti, the Lilywhites are said to be nearing an “agreement” with the Bees regarding the signing of the Spanish stopper, with the deal potentially set to cost in the region of just €25m (£21m) – despite a £40m fee having been mooted of late.

Writing on Twitter, the transfer insider revealed: “#Tottenham and #Brentford are closed to reach an agreement for David #Raya. As told few days ago, only #THFC have been involved in the talks for the [Spanish] GK.

“The cost of the operation is around €20-25m: developments expected soon.”

This comes amid a report from The Telegraph which revealed that the north London outfit are leading the race for the 27-year-old’s signature, albeit with Premier League rivals Manchester United also still in the running at present.

Would Raya be a good signing for Tottenham?

There is no doubt that a new first-choice option is needed in the sticks next term for Ange Postecoglou’s side, with the aforementioned Lloris having endured a miserable, injury-hit 2022/23 campaign in which the Frenchman made four errors leading to goals in the league – the most of any player in the division.

With the 36-year-old having publicly stated his desire to move on after 11 years at the club, the addition of Raya – who made the most saves in the top-flight last term – could be a dream solution as far as Postecoglou is concerned.

The former Blackburn Rovers man is not only an effective shot-stopper – as he ranks in the top 8% among his European peers with regard to his save percentage – but he is also adept at playing out from the back, with that willingness to receive possession showcased by the fact that the 6 foot 1 ace ranks in the top 6% for touches made per 90.

Those all-round attributes could well make Raya a vital part of Tottenham’s backline over the coming years, with there a potential for the Barcelona native to form an immense partnership with the club’s current centre-back option, Cristiano Romero.

Although the latter man did endure a difficult campaign having been described as playing like a “reckless teenager” by journalist Sam Dean, the 25-year-old is still a dominant force at the heart of the defence, as he ranks in the top 6% for tackles and the top 20% for interceptions.

Evidently intent on thwarting the opposition wherever possible, Romero also mirrors the Brentford ace due to his ability to play out from the back, with the Argentine notably ranking in the top 17% for successful take-ons, as well as in the top 20% for progressive passes received – further showcasing that front-foot approach.

With new man Postecoglou set to implement a “fast, attacking style of play” – according to chairman Daniel Levy – to be able to rely on the likes of Romero and Raya to thrive in that progressive system will be crucial, with the pair both evidently comfortable in possession, while also thriving in their defensive duties first and foremost.

As such, the signing of the “top-class” asset from west London – as described by pundit Michael Owen (Premier League Productions, 06/03/2023, 19:35) – could be integral to what the ex-Celtic boss wishes to achieve in his new surroundings.

Contact has already reportedly been made with the Morocco international’s entourage.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly chasing a move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat this summer, according to reports.

What’s the latest Spurs transfer news?

Ange Postecoglou looks set to be backed by the Spurs board ahead of his first Premier League season in charge in north London, with five potential new signings on the agenda.

A transfer meeting has already been held, with a new midfielder thought to be on the wishlist. Leicester City’s James Maddison appears to be a target, however, Tottenham appear to be trailing Newcastle United in the race for the England international.

Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate is another to be linked with a move to Spurs following Postecoglou’s arrival, and it appears as if Amrabat is another name to look out for.

Sport Witness relayed an update from Mundo Deportivo regarding Amrabat. The report states that Spurs and Bayern Munich have joined Atletico Madrid in the race for the midfielder, who is set to leave his current employers over the coming months.

An auction looks set to take place at a starting price of €20m, with SW citing previous claims suggesting that contact has already been made by Spurs to Amrabat’s representatives.

Who is Sofyan Amrabat?

Amrabat, described as a “monster” at the World Cup with Morocco by journalist Carlo Garganese, is primarily a defensive midfielder who can also play further forward in a box-to-box role.

The 26-year-old, who cares the same agency as Ben Davies, appears to be at the top of his game after his Transfermarkt valuation rocketed from €10m in November to a career-high €25 prior to the New Year. He has made 107 appearances for his current employers but has more than 250 games of senior club experience under his belt.

Bringing in a new defensive midfielder could prove to be a smart idea, as Oliver Skipp is the only out-and-out holding midfielder on the books at this moment in time. As per FBref, Amrabat ranks in the 99th percentile for long passes completed and 98th percentile for medium passes completed, so could bring a real stability to Spurs’ midfield.

Adding Maddison to bring the creative spark to Postecoglou’s 4-3-3 formation could complement someone like Amrabat and an existing central midfielder such as Rodrigo Bentancur, but Spurs will need to pip a number of sides to secure Amrabat’s services over the coming months.
