Jurgen Klopp shares big injury update on Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker

Liverpool are back in action this weekend in the Premier League after a brief hiatus due to international break.

The Reds will face Brighton at Anfield on Sunday. Before the international break, Liverpool lost their FA Cup game against Manchester United, but now they have to focus on winning every game from here on in the league as the title race approaches its climax.

Liverpool have been plagued with injury problems throughout the season and the misery doesn’t seem to end as Andy Robertson has now picked up an injury while playing for Scotland.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to get back some of his key players from injuries as we enter the business end of the season. The Times have claimed that Curtis Jones could be involved in Sunday’s game, while it won’t be long before other players join him in the first team.

Footage is doing the rounds, shared by Anfield Edition, where a Liverpool fan Liam Whittle is seen having a conversation with Jurgen Klopp in the AXA training centre. He asked him about Alisson’s injury update, and Klopp has confirmed that the Brazilian should return within the next two to three weeks.

A Liverpool fan, @LiamWhittle5, managed to speak to Jurgen Klopp at the AXA Training Centre today, and has revealed that Alisson is about “2 1/2 – 3 weeks” away from returning 🧤

Liverpool injury list
Despite missing the 31-year-old goalkeeper for so long, Liverpool didn’t really miss him. Caoimhin Kelleher, the second-choice goalkeeper, has been tremendous for the Reds, and he has done a massive job for the club.

Kelleher once again will be in goal when the Reds face Brighton this week.

Ryan Gravenberch came back to the side before the break, but the Reds are still missing several key players. Trent Alexander-Arnold is still some weeks away from returning to the side, while the same can be said about Diogo Jota.

Liverpool fans will be relieved to find that Jones is almost ready to play again while Alisson shouldn’t be far away from returning to full training.

Jack Grealish’s Man City form: Winger remains too passive in possession for Pep Guardiola’s side and has to improve
Manchester City’s comeback against Borussia Dortmund came after Jack Grealish had been substituted and questions remain about how he fits into this Pep Guardiola team

Jack Grealish struggled during Manchester City’s game against Borussia Dortmund
There was a point during the first half of Manchester City’s win over Borussia Dortmund when the space that the home side had been seeking for much of the evening had presented itself at long last. This was the moment they had been playing for.

Having finally manoeuvred the ball into the feet of Erling Haaland, the forward turned sharply and fizzed a pass out to Jack Grealish in the left channel. The winger was now free because of Haaland’s habit of drawing defenders towards him.

Unfortunately, one touch became two and the space was shut down. City settled for a corner. In the end, it was barely a half chance. Grealish had not exactly messed up the opportunity but there was a sense that he had failed to maximise it.

Pep Guardiola compared Erling Haaland to Johan Cruyff after his winner against Dortmund
The same might be said of his Manchester City career so far. A Premier League title winner in his first season, Grealish is World Cup-bound in his second. City are favourites to retain their domestic crown and to add that European one at long last. Questions remain.

His own contribution continues to feel a little underwhelming and the statistics never seem to do his reputation any favours. He is yet to score this season. If it feels early to consider that a valid criticism, do note that nine City players have managed to do so.

Grealish’s total of three league goals in 28 appearances last season was one fewer than central defender Aymeric Laporte and only more than Ferran Torres – a player who had made his final Premier League appearance for the club by this time last year.

This is a limited version of the story so unfortunately this content is not available.

Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus have moved on – 30 goals in all competitions between them last season – and though Haaland should cover that on his own there is still an expectation that Grealish shows improvement in his second season as a City player.

The £100m fee is not his fault but the competition is his problem. He has been fine. But when trying to follow Sterling and with Phil Foden waiting his turn on the bench, fine is not going to be good enough to play when it matters in Pep Guardiola’s City side.

Foden provided more evidence of that with the urgency of his cameo against Dortmund. Suddenly there was an energy in the team as he drove at the defence with purpose. City were behind and chasing the game at that point but the difference was still stark.

“We had a lot of problems to get our rhythm,” Guardiola explained. “We were so passive in our transition, our movements to be aggressive. We struggled. We were playing in the wrong gear.” That only changed once Foden, Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva came on.

“The dynamic of Phil and Bernardo and Julian did us good and gave us another rhythm. This is who we are.” He was not aiming those comments specifically at Grealish but there are times when the winger comes to embody City at their slowest tempo.

Grealish keeps the ball well. But it is all so safe. Often it can appear as though his chief role is to hug the touchline, making the pitch as wide as possible so that Joao Cancelo can find an extra yard of space in that channel from which he is able to do so much damage.

Guardiola alluded to this last season when discussing Grealish. “Sometimes maybe he has to be a more aggressive guy,” he said. “But the decision-making, to take an extra pass, it is not wrong. It is good. He creates space for the guy who got the ball from him.”

There is joy to be had in creating space for Cancelo. After Grealish went off, it was his outside-of-the-boot assist for Haaland’s winner. It is a little ironic that Guardiola suggested afterwards that Cancelo is inclined to try to do too much with the ball.

“Every ball he has, he has to make this kind of actions. I know he can do it. He does it a lot. But you cannot force it. Sometimes he does it quite often. But he is still young.” So, Cancelo tends to try that final pass too much and Grealish does not try it often enough.

Guardiola no doubt admires that ability to retain the ball in tight areas. Sometimes it can seem as if Grealish will only surrender possession at a time of his choosing – whether that is a cross, a shot or a tumble that buys a free-kick. Otherwise, he could keep it forever.

But there is still an onus on him to do more with the ball than he is doing. Look at the positions in which he received it against Dortmund. These were areas of the pitch where a world-class player might be expected to hurt the opposition far more than he did.

Grealish did not complete a single dribble.

His off-the-ball running is never likely to match Sterling and Jesus, whose runs in behind were so important for City. Their wastefulness was often criticised but the chances kept coming. Grealish is a different type of player. He must make his impact with the ball.

The assumption when he arrived from Aston Villa was that he would revel in a possession team because he would see much more of it. That has not proven to be the case. In fact, Grealish had more touches of the ball per 90 minutes at Villa than he does at City.

This is a limited version of the story so unfortunately this content is not available.
Open the full version
He was among those surprised by that.

“I have found it a lot more difficult than I thought I would,” he said himself last season. “At first I thought I would have more of the ball, get more assists and goals but it doesn’t work like that at all. I have had nowhere near as much of the ball as I used to get at Villa.”

He does have the ball in the opposition penalty box more often now. But that only makes it more alarming that his goals and assists are down. In part, that is as a result of poor finishing by him and others – his expected goals and assists figures are actually higher.

Against Dortmund, he had three shots. As many as Haaland on the night. All of them were blocked. It sums up what we have seen from him so far. Unlucky? Perhaps. But the sympathy will soon run out unless he can do more when the moments come his way.

Nigerian personality Bobrisky has declared herself a woman and urged women to accept her as part of the sisterhood.
Bobrisky asserts that women have no choice but to accept them as part of the sisterhood, stating that they are a woman.
Bobrisky has been awarded the best dressed award in the female category.
“Women must accept me as part of the sisterhood, I’m a woman” – Bobrisky says

Nigerian star Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, often known as Bobrisky, has declared herself a woman, claiming that women have no choice but to accept her as a member of the sisterhood.

This declaration appears in a new post with the caption: “Women have no choice. They have to accept me as part of the sisterhood. “I’m a woman.”

The declaration comes after Bobrisky won the prize for best dressed female.

Many Nollywood stars and worried Nigerians have weighed in on the unexpected event of receiving the prize despite not being biologically female.

In response to the criticism that followed the prise, Bobrisky issued a new statement emphasising that he deserves respect from women and everyone else and should not be criticised simply because she identifies as a woman.

He went on to say that women should accept her as a member of the sisterhood because she identifies as female.

Manchester City ace John Stones is now ‘worried’ that he’ll be missing for this weekend’s crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal. The England international hobbled off the Wembley pitch on Tuesday night, as Pep Guardiola’s injury list ahead of Sunday’s match continues to grow.

The clock hadn’t even reached the 10-minute mark by the time Stones had indicated his intention to be subbed off during England’s 2-2 draw with Belgium. A devastating blow for Stones, whose season has been disrupted by several injury problems throughout, and now, it looks as if he could be absent for City’s biggest Premier League game of the season so far against Arsenal.

According to a report by The Daily Star, Stones has returned to Manchester to undergo scans on his groin and is ‘worried’ that he won’t be fit in time to play against the Gunners – a game which could make or break City’s title defence. Mikel Arteta’s men enter the weekend’s action top of the table and a victory for Arsenal in East Manchester could kill City’s hopes of securing a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

England v Belgium – International Friendly

When asked after the Belgium stalemate, Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate admitted he was unsure how serious the injury problem for Stones was. He said: “No [it wasn’t a risk to play him]. The first game [against Brazil] for him wasn’t a game that was a high level in terms of intensity… But of course, we’re disappointed if he’s got a problem. It’s in the adductor area. He came in on the back of not having played for two weeks so it wasn’t an overload issue. But I hate sending players back to their clubs if they’re not fully fit.”

The Stones situation is yet another injury problem for Guardiola to contend with after numerous first-team players picked up knocks while away on international duty. Matheus Nunes was missing for Portugal’s friendly against Slovenia because of a foot problem, while Manuel Akanji pulled out of the Switzerland squad because of a fitness concern, with Kyle Walker having also gone home from England duty early.

Switching Sides: 10 players to play for both LFC and Chelsea

Liverpool host Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side at Anfield on Saturday afternoon as focus shifts back to the Premier League.

There have been some titanic tussles with the Blues down the years and more than a few players have experienced both sides of the battle.

Current Reds Daniel Sturridge, Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke each had spells at Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses spent time on loan at Anfield.

So ahead of this weekend’s clash, we’ve picked out 10 of the best players to feature for both clubs, excluding the current crop of players…

Fernando Torres

Fernando Torres

Liverpool: 142 games, 81 goals. Chelsea: 172 games, 45 goals

Unstoppable at his best, Fernando Torres ended his debut season in England as the first Liverpool player since Robbie Fowler in 1996-97 to score more than 30 goals in a campaign.

The prolific Spanish striker was adored by the Kop during his three-and-a-half-year stay on Merseyside, but that all changed in January 2011 when he made an unpalatable £50 million move to Chelsea.

However, time and the recognition that Liverpool got a good deal has proved a great healer. When he returned to Anfield for an all-star charity match in 2015 his “Fernando Torres Liverpool’s number 9” chant even got an airing.

Nicolas Anelka

Nicolas Anelka

Liverpool: 22 games, 5 goals. Chelsea: 184 games, 59 goals

Champions League winner and two-time Premier League champion Nicholas Anelka was signed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in December 2001 and helped Gerard Houllier’s Liverpool to second place in the league that season, but the deal was never made permanent.

Instead, he signed for Manchester City in a club record £13 million deal and was their top scorer for both seasons he was there. He joined Chelsea in 2008, winning one of those aforementioned Premier League titles, and adding two FA Cup winners’ medals to his palmares.

Joey Jones

Joey Jones

Liverpool: 100 games, 3 goals. Chelsea: 78 games, 2 goals.

Bob Paisley brought Liverpool-supporting full-back Joey Jones to Anfield in 1975. He won the UEFA Cup in his debut season but didn’t manage to play enough league games to claim a title-winners’ medal.

However, the fans’ favourite put that right the following season when he starred in Liverpool’s European Cup and league double. The tough-tackling Welshman would add another European Cup in 1978 to confirm his status as a cult hero.

After a century of appearances for the Reds, Jones returned to Wrexham before join Chelsea in 1982, when he helped stave off relegation to the Third Division and win promotion to the top flight of English football.

Glen Johnson

Glen Johnson

Chelsea: 66 games, 4 goals. Liverpool: 200 games, 9 goals

Attacking full-back Glen Johnson was the first signing of the Roman Abramovich era at Chelsea. The Blues’ new Russian owner spent around £6.3 million to take the defender from West Ham United back in 2003.

He signed for Liverpool from Portsmouth in 2009 and marked his home league debut with a goal and an assist in a man-of-the-match performance against Stoke.
The England international’s forward forays remained a trademark of his six seasons at Anfield. Arguably his most important peak of which was when he converted a penalty in the shootout to win the 2012 League Cup.

Raul Meireles

Raul Meireles

Liverpool: 44 games, 5 goals. Chelsea: 48 games, 6 goals

Midfielder Raul Meireles only spent one full season at Liverpool, but won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year Award in what was an excellent campaign for the Portugal international.

Reds will also likely remember Meireles for his ‘out there’ sense of fashion and he probably had the best haircut at all the clubs he has played for.

A league title winner at Porto and Fenerbahce, he left Liverpool to join Chelsea in 2012 and won the FA Cup and Champions League in his year at Stamford Bridge.

Nigel Spackman

Nigel Spackman

Chelsea: 208 games, 12 goals. Liverpool: 63 games, 0 goals

After working his way up from non-league football, midfielder Nigel Spackman really made a name for himself at John Neal’s Chelsea after helping them win the Second Division title and promotion to the top flight in 1984.

Snapped up by Kenny Dalglish, Spackman helped Liverpool win the 1987-88 league title during a season-and-a-half at Anfield. He left the Reds in 1989 and, after spells with QPR and Rangers, returned to Chelsea.

Yossi Benayoun

Yossi Benayoun

Liverpool: 134 games, 29 goals. Chelsea: 24 games, 1 goal

Signed by Rafa Benitez from West Ham in 2007, Yossi Benayoun featured in 47 of Liverpool’s 59 matches in his first season at Anfield. However, in 21 of those games he came off the bench and it became apparent that the Reds boss saw him as an impact player rather than and out and out starter.

But he still managed to score some crucial goals, including a winner in the Bernabeu against Real Madrid, and was the first player to score hat-tricks in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

He joined Chelsea in 2010 but only made a handful of appearances for the club before joining Arsenal on loan. He returned to the Blues to win the UEFA Cup in 2013, under interim manager Benitez.

Tony Hateley

Tony Hateley

Chelsea: 27 games, 6 goals. Liverpool: 56 games, 28 goals

Striker Tony Hateley was Chelsea’s record signing when he joined for £100,000 in 1966. However, his aerial prowess failed to fit in with their style and he subsequently became Liverpool’s record signing in 1967.

The Englishman scored 27 goals during his debut campaign for Bill Shankly’s side but in his second season the target man was also deemed unsuitable for Liverpool’s pass and move style.

Hateley, who had been prolific at both Notts County and Aston Villa prior to his move to Chelsea and then Liverpool, left Anfield to join Coventry City in 1968.

Boudewijn Zenden

Boudewijn Zenden

Chelsea: 43 games, 4 goals. Liverpool: 47 games, 2 goals

A flying winger when he won La Liga with Barcelona in 1999, Boudewijn Zenden made the move to English football with Claudio Ranieri’s Chelsea the following season but his two years at Stamford Bridge were hindered by injuries.

The Netherlands international reinvented himself as a diligent midfielder at Middlesbrough and joined Liverpool on a free transfer in 2005. The versatile Dutchman won the UEFA Super Cup in his first year at Anfield and played his part in helping the Reds reach the Champions League final in 2007.

Joe Cole

Joe Cole

Chelsea: 274 games, 38 goals. Liverpool: 42 games, 5 goals

Joe Cole was one of England’s most exciting midfielders when he joined Chelsea from West Ham United in 2003.

He arrived at Anfield in 2010 determined to add to the three Premier League titles, two FA Cups and two League Cups that he won during seven years at Stamford Bridge. However, things never quite worked out at Liverpool as injuries had taken a toll on his occasionally sublime skills.

The one-time England star worked under Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers at the Reds before returning to boyhood club West Ham in January 2013.

Man City ‘expulsion’? Whatabout Liverpool, Arsenal and the other 17 Premier League cheats?
Will Ford 1 hour ago

Roman Abramovich, Simon Jordan and overcelebrating are all excellent reasons to relegate Man City’s rivals.
Manchester City have 115 FFP charges hanging over them, but whatabout the rest of the Premier League scumbags?

City are facing ‘expulsion’, and we’ve come up with excellent, bona fide reasons why all of the other 19 clubs should be relegated from the top flight.

Arsenal – Overcelebrating
The celebration police charges came to nothing after Mikel Arteta ‘stole’ Jurgen Klopp’s trademark fist pump or when Martin Odegaard took snaps of the photographer, but the title win will be the final straw for Chief Constable Keys, who will have Sergeant Carragher, Constable Souness and Community Support Officer O’Hara ready with baton, handcuffs and whistle respectively to make arrests pitch-side at the Emirates on the last day of the season.

Aston Villa – £119.6m loss
Given the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) only allow for losses of £105m across three seasons, a £119.6m deficit in one season is a concern. That 2022/23 loss is the largest among teams competing in Europe this season. We may have to wait a year for their expulsion, as the club chiefs are adamant that they’re on course to meet the requirements again this season, but come 2024/25 they may well be in some bother, as Jack Grealish’s £100m sale in August 2021 falls out of consideration.

Bournemouth – Sacking Gary O’Neil
“A ludicrous decision,” according to Gary Lineker, while various other pundits – all avid watchers of Bournemouth last season, of course – joined in his admonishment of the club for replacing O’Neil with a manager who’s won 1.38 points per game at Dean Court compared to his predecessor’s 0.92. And poor Gary’s slumming it with Wolves in mid-table and being linked with the Manchester United job. There were simply no winners.

Brentford – Hollywoodbets
There are seven other Premier League clubs that advertise a gambling company on the front of their shirts, but to see Ivan Toney wearing one is particularly disheartening.

Brighton – Farming talent
We refuse to believe a club can have such an outstanding hit-rate on young talent without having done something egregious. Backhanders to Argentinian diplomats, doping the waters of Paraguay, something like that.

Burnley – Failure to launch
How dare Vincent Kompany bring Burnley up from the Championship and Play Football in the Premier League. Patrons of The Royal Dyche want it launched in memory of the man struggling to keep a different team in the Premier League.

Chelsea – Roman Abramovich
The fans may claim they’re getting their comeuppance in the form of their new American owners, who barely know what football is, let alone have the knowledge to run a club, but it won’t be lost on their rivals – or even just people with a sound set of morals who want justice – that Chelsea have essentially got away being funded through their two decades of success by a man who was also funding a murderous tyrant and his war on Ukraine.

Over two years on from his departure, Abramovich could still be the one to f*** Chelsea

READ MORE: Chelsea stars reassigned after FFP ‘expulsion’: Mudryk to Arsenal as Liverpool land trio

Crystal Palace – Simon Jordan
Who else is there to blame for sentencing us all to the man’s high-falutin opinions and desperate verbal gymnastics?

Everton – Uninspiring architecture
A crime far greater than breaking the FFP rules they agreed, twice, is their new stadium, described as ‘generic’, ‘dull’, ‘another stadium that looks like every other one’ and  – our personal favourite – ‘just a bowl with seats’.

Fulham – £125 to watch Sheffield United
An 18% rise in ticket prices since last season and a 40% rise since 2019 is shocking. ‘So much for us being “a family friendly” club’ said The Fulham Supporters’ Trust in a statement. The majority of adult tickets behind the goal cost £71 against Sheffield United with prices at the sides up to £125. For Sheffield United?! Yikes.

Liverpool – Manchester City hacking
Sounds juicy doesn’t it? Liverpool hacking the Manchester City scouting system. And it probably would have been a far bigger deal had it occurred in the midst of their great rivalry, rather than in 2013 when Liverpool regularly relied upon Stewart Downing and Jonjo Shelvey. The Reds paid a £1m settlement in 2019, but on the back of their charges, if you think Liverpool whataboutery isn’t going to form a significant part of Manchester City’s defence you are sorely mistaken. They’re going down swinging.

Luton – Too small
Have you seen their stadium? Embarrassing.

Manchester United – A decade without a Premier League title
Haven’t won, or even come close to, winning a title in a decade in which they have at no point been lower than fourth in the Forbes list of the most valuable football clubs. At a certain point they should be kicked out for being so terrible, and that point has come.

Newcastle – Beheadings
Forgive us for being prudes but we’re not sure a football team should be run by a state that beheads supposed criminals, murders journalists, discriminates against women and members of the LGBTQ+ community and violates several other human rights.

Nottingham Forest – Marinakis vs Tierney
We’re not sure what colour it would be, but Tierney should have had the option of brandishing a relegation card at Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis for chasing the referee down the tunnel.

Sheffield United – Football
If they’re not relegated through the usual means having been terrible at football, they should be forcefully expelled for being terrible at football.

Tottenham – Defoe agent breach
Described as “a cold case which has become warmer” on the back of an investigation by The Times in November, Jermain Defoe’s 2008 transfer from Spurs to Portsmouth, which involved an unlicensed agent – hasn’t reached the requisite temperate for the FA to have done anything about it. But breaches of agent rules have previously resulted in point deductions, transfer bans, and suspensions for club officials.

West Ham – Tevez and Mascherano
17 years on and Neil Warnock’s still fuming: “Because it was little old Sheffield United, the Premier League didn’t take the points off (West Ham). It was wrong.” Tevez played a key role in keeping the Hammers up at the expense of the Blades, who later won a settlement in the region of £21 million. Points deductions are more in vogue now than ever, and there’s no statute of limitations when it comes to the FA.

Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano signed for West Ham in 2007.
Wolves – Opening the Saudi floodgates
We all just thought Cristiano Ronaldo would be ploughing a lone furrow on Saudi soil, and if he was to be joined it would be by over-the-hill footballers who wanted a payday before retiring. But Ruben Neves was 26 and linked with some of the European elite. His decision to join Al-Hilal was a landmark moment for the Saudi Pro League, who had shown they could lure players in their prime, which persuaded more to follow suit. Expulse them.

FOOTBALLJurgen Klopp shares big injury update on Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Beckerby stevenmangan28 March 2024

Liverpool fans will be relieved to find that Jones is almost ready to play again while Alisson shouldn’t be far away from returning to full t
