Champions League winger ‘rejected’ Newcastle move after serious summer interest – Report

According to Italian outlet Il Mattino, Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia rejected the chance to join Newcastle United after the club showed serious interest earlier in the window.

The exciting Georgian has been one of THE most exciting attackers in Europe over the past 18 months, with The Athletic, The Times and The Telegraph all reporting on our interest in the 22-year-old.

However, it was clear from the get go that attracting such a huge European star would’ve been an enormous challenge given the level of interest following his stunning season at Napoli.

The pricing of the deal would have also been an issue – it was previously reported that the Serie A champions were demanding upwards of £80m; a fee which may not have worked from an FFP perspective.

However, should we enjoy another successful season and give a good account of ourselves in the Champions League, he might just be one to watch if we reignite our interest next summer.

For now, the Georgian international looks to be staying on in Naples and it will be interesting to see if he keeps up his incredible form of last season where he recorded 25 goals and assists in the league.

Kieran Trippier now shares what Hall told him on the pitch last time he played against Newcastle

Lewis Hall is officially a Newcastle United player, and will now be getting to know his new teammates.

The deal was confirmed on Tuesday, with the 18-year-old arriving from Chelsea on loan. It will then become a permanent transfer next summer, with Newcastle set to pay £28million for the teenager.

While the move was only announced on Tuesday, it was actually Friday when Hall had his medical on Tyneside. He was then at the Etihad on Saturday to watch his new side lose 1-0 to Manchester City.

Now the move is official, and Hall can properly get to work with his new team as they prepare for this weekend’s game against Liverpool.

Following the deal’s announcement, Newcastle have now shared footage of Hall’s arrival on Tyneside, including a very interesting interaction with on-pitch captain Kieran Trippier.

Kieran Trippier remembers key detail about Lewis Hall and his family

During the video on Newcastle’s official YouTube channel, Hall can be seen going through his medical. He is joined by Trippier, who welcomes him to the club.

The 32-year-old then stated that they had met a couple of times playing against each other, and shared something Hall told him on the pitch about his family.

Trippier: “Your family are Geordies, right? Were you saying that when we played each other on the pitch last time?”

Hall: “Yeah they all support Newcastle.”

Newcastle fans through and through

Firstly, it is great to see Trippier introducing himself to the new lad and immediately welcoming him into the group.

Secondly, the fact that he remembered what Hall had told him when they previously met will surely have meant a lot to the left-back. They played against each other twice last season, with Hall featuring in both fixtures against the Magpies – including making his Premier League debut at St James’ Park.

It says a lot about Trippier’s personality that he remembers small details like that. That personable quality is what makes him so endearing and such a good leader.

For Hall, he will no doubt feel at ease alongside Trippier, while he is clearly immensely proud to join his family’s club at such an exciting time.

He will be eager to start playing alongside Trippier as soon as possible and get the chance to make his family even prouder than they already are.

Lewis Hall pens emotional Chelsea farewell after confusion over Newcastle United transfer

Newcastle United confirmed the signing of Chelsea full-back Lewis Hall this week

Chelsea’s confirmation of Lewis Hall’s Newcastle United loan move caused confusion this week with the Blues claiming Eddie Howe’s side simply had an ‘option’ to purchase the left-back permanently next summer. Newcastle, who confirmed Hall’s move to his beloved club on Tuesday, will sign the 18-year-old permanently at the end of the season due to an obligation clause, based on ‘performance-related criteria’.

Newcastle will pay £28m plus £7m in achievable add-ons when the move is made permanent next summer. Hall, who will wear the number 20 on Tyneside, will offer Howe an extra layer of competition in the left-back role.

The teenager burst onto the scene at Chelsea in recent seasons, excelling under both Graham Potter and Frank Lampard. Hall was one of the few positives for the west London outfit when making his Premier League debut in a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle last November.

Despite supporting Newcastle since he was a child, Hall has spent his entire career to date at Stamford Bridge, rising through the youth ranks after joining the club in 2012. As such, the youngster penned an emotional farewell message to the Blues on Tuesday after his exit was confirmed.

“After 12 amazing years with this club, I just want to say thank you to everyone @chelseafc,” Hall wrote. “Growing up through the academy, I always aspired to play for the first team, and I’m so proud to have been able to do so.

“Every time I put on the shirt, I felt nothing but pride. To the staff and players of both the academy and the first team, thank you for helping me develop into the person I am today.

“And of course the fans, thank you so much for your continued support during my time here. Chelsea will always have a special place in my heart. LH.”
