Liverpool showed their support to Luis Diaz during a comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Sunday, 29 October.

Goals from Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez before the break and Mohamed Salah’s second-half effort helped Jurgen Klopp’s side maintain their 100 per cent home record in the Premier League this season.

Jota held aloft Diaz’s number seven shirt after scoring, with the Colombian not featuring in Liverpool’s squad following reports his parents had been kidnapped in his homeland.

Head coach Jurgen Klopp said preparation for Sunday’s win against had been “the most difficult I’ve ever had in my life”.

Liverpool confirmed an “ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz” earlier on Sunday and Colombia’s president said Diaz’s mother “has been rescued” but his father remains missing.

Klopp said: “The game preparation was the most difficult I’ve ever had in my life. I didn’t expect that, I wasn’t prepared for it.

“I don’t want to make the game bigger than it was, but definitely, we tried to help Luis with the fight we put in because obviously we want to help and we cannot really help.

“So the only thing we can do is fight for him and that’s what the boys did.”

Liverpool secured their fifth straight home Premier League win to move three points behind leaders Tottenham.

But Klopp said: “How can you make a football game really important on a day like this? It’s really difficult. I’ve never struggled with that in my life.

“We heard late last night about it. We spoke to Luis, he wanted to go home…Then we got the news with his mum, which is fantastic, and since then nothing really.

“We are obviously the first people to get involved and we try to have knowledge of everything as much as we can, but we don’t want to disturb in any way the important people there, we just want to support, that’s it.”

Liverpool said in a statement that they were supporting the player. It read: “Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia.

“It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.”

Colombia’s president Gustavo Petro said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “In an operation in Barrancas, Luis Diaz’s mother has been rescued, we continue the search for the father.”

The country’s football federation said in a statement that the kidnapping was regrettable and urged authorities to rescue Diaz’s father.

“The Colombian Football Federation rejects the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Diaz are going through,” they said.

“From the FCF we express our solidarity with him and his entire family and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation.”

Liverpool signed Diaz from Porto in January 2022 in an initial £37.5million deal that included a potential extra £12.5million in add-ons.

The 26-year-old winger has made 11 appearances this season and scored three goals.

The Colombia women’s national team showed their support for Luis Diaz with a classy gesture ahead of their clash with the United States.

Nelson Abadía’s side were beaten 3-0 by the four-time world champions in a friendly at the Snapdragon Stadium in California on Sunday evening. However, there was a poignant moment ahead of kick-off as the Colombian players held up Diaz’ shirt during the national anthem.

The parents of the Liverpool forward were kidnapped on Saturday evening in the Los Olivos neighbourhood of Barrancas, in Guajira. His mother, Cilenis Marulanda, has been found safe however the whereabouts of his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, are still unknown.

The gesture from the Colombian team came hours after Diogo Jota had shown his support for his Liverpool teammate during the Reds’ 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Diaz was not part of the squad to face Steve Cooper’s side however Jota held aloft the the forward’s no. 7 shirt after opening the scoring at Anfield.

Goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah made sure of the three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side but the Liverpool boss admitted Diaz and his family had been at the forefront of his team’s minds throughout.

“How can you make a football game really important on a day like this? It’s really difficult,” Klopp said. “I never struggled with that in my life. It was always my safe place, sometimes my hiding point as a player or as a coach. You are allowed, during these 90-odd minutes, to focus just on that.

“And it was impossible, absolutely impossible to do that. So it was clear we had to give the game an extra sense and it was fighting for Lucho. Then the boys pulled out the shirt and I was not 100% prepared for that to be honest. It was really touching, but wonderful as well.”

There has been a global outpouring of support for Diaz over the past few days, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino insisting the whole of world football is behind the Colombian and his family. The wife of Liverpool’s principal owner John W Henry, Linda Pizzuti also offered her message of support, posting: “We are all sending love to Luis Diaz as he is with his family to help recover his kidnapped dad.”

Dominik Szoboszlai outlined his ambitions for Liverpool this season after the Reds’ 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Goals from Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah gave Jürgen Klopp’s men victory on Sunday afternoon, bringing up their eighth consecutive home success in all competitions in 2023-24.

Afterwards, Szoboszlai, whose two assists helped earn him the Carlsberg Player of the Match award, reflected on a hard-fought three points – and suggested there is more to come from the team going forward.

“Everybody tries to beat us, but we are ready for this,” the No.8 told Liverpoolfc.com. “We are ready for [the challenge of] every team. As a group, we can do a lot this season.

“How we started, we just have to continue like this. We just have to work, work, work, as much as we can, and at the end it will pay off.”

On the defeat of Forest, the midfielder added: “I think we deserved to win, we did a great game. Everybody did their job and we took the three points.”

Salah played a key role in all three Liverpool goals on the day, including finishing off the third himself after Szoboszlai’s long pass landed his way.

Szoboszlai said of the Egyptian: “He’s always dangerous, even if it’s a penalty, a counter-attack, if he is assisting or he is scoring. He’s really important for us.”

And of the pleasure he takes from linking up with the prolific forwards within the squad, he noted: “I can only say that they are all great players, fantastic guys. Sometimes they do really good, sometimes ‘just’ good, but never bad! It’s an easy job for us.”

The Reds were without Luis Diaz for the match amid an ongoing family situation for the Colombian in his home country.

Following Jota’s opening goal of the encounter, the scorer headed to the touchline to raise a home shirt bearing Diaz’s name as a gesture of support.

“Everyone had this in their head during the game. We did it for Lucho,” said Szoboszlai.

“To be honest, I heard [about] it in the morning and he was already gone. We had a meeting about this and everybody knew what we had to do for him.

“We are a team. We have to fight for each other. Today, we did it for Lucho.”

Done deal Liverpool agree transfer deal in principle for £53m star……..

According to Italian website

Tuttomercatoweb, Liverpool already have an agreement in principle with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The Merseyside giants are planning to bolster their midfield department this summer and they have identified Mac Allister as their priority target for the summer transfer window.

It is now revealed by Tuttomercato that the Reds have agreed financial terms with Brighton over a summer transfer. They are ready to pay an initial £53 million to sign the World Cup winner.

The same outlet add that talks are underway to finalise personal terms over a five-year contract. Liverpool are very close to doing so after a fresh round of negotiations earlier this week.

Matter of time

Mac Allister has been in fantastic form for Brighton this campaign. In his 34 appearances in all competitions, he has contributed 11 goals and 2 assists for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

The World Cup winner has also been brilliant in the defensive scheme of things. The Argentine has impressed with his tackling, ability to win regular duels as well as his distribution.

On top of this, Mac Allister has been a versatile presence. He started the season as a holding midfielder but has been playing in the central and attacking midfield roles recently.

Hence, he would be a fantastic addition to the Liverpool squad and it could be only a matter of time before a formal announcement over a summer transfer is made by the clubs.

Mac Allister has reportedly revealed his intention to play under manager Jurgen Klopp and personal terms should be finalised soon.

Liverpool fans will be hoping that the club will invest on more than one midfielder this summer. The club have also been linked with Chelsea’s Mason Mount over recent weeks.

Mount is set to enter the final year of his Chelsea contract and looks likely to be sold in the next transfer window.

Sources: Sadio Mane return greenlit, as Liverpool legend’s links to Chelsea grow after Tuchel…

TEAMtalk has learned Bayern Munich are already planning for life without Sadio Mane, and the Liverpool legend may make Mauricio Pochettino’s dreams come true at Chelsea.

Eyebrows were raised when Liverpool sanctioned the sale of Sadio Mane for just an initial £27.4m last summer. Many believed Bayern had pulled off a masterstroke, though the ensuing nine months suggest Liverpool may have sold at just the right time.

Indeed, Mane has scored just 12 times in 36 matches for the German giant. He’s not been a regular starter under either Julian Nagelsmann or Thomas Tuchel, while an off-field incident recently marred his reputation.

Mane punched teammate Leroy Sane in the aftermath of Bayern’s 3-0 thumping at the hands of Man City in the Champions League.

Sane was left with a bloodied lip and Mane was subsequently suspended for Bayern’s Bundesliga clash with Hoffenheim and fined roughly €500,000.

Sky Germany subsequently claimed Bayern are gearing up for a sale of one of their highest profile wingers this summer. Serge Gnabry and Mane are the two players who are on the chopping block.

However, according to our transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, it’s Mane who will make way.

Bailey told us Mane was looking to leave Bayern after just one largely unsuccessful in season in Germany anyway. The Sane debacle has only served to embolden Bayern to cash in and manager Tuchel does not see a future for Mane in his plans.

Sadio Mane on the move; Chelsea linked

“Sources I have spoken to at Bayern believe that Mane was looking likely to leave even before the Sane situation,” said Bailey.

“Thomas Tuchel has plans for the club and it is believed Mane is not among them.

“Mane’s next move will be very interesting: will he come back to England? At the moment I am told there are not too many options but his availability is a very new situation and he could very well emerge as an option for someone.”

While far from concrete, one club who have been linked with bringing Mane back to England is Chelsea.

The Blues have been wasteful in the extreme in front of goal this season. Despite a sub-par campaign in Bavaria, Mane is as proven as they come in the Premier League.

A recent report from Football Insider claimed the odds-on favourite to become the next Chelsea boss – Mauricio Pochettino – wishes to sign Mane.

FI stated Pochettino has namechecked Mane in his own discussions with Chelsea’s hierarchy and a bid of around £30m will reportedly be enough to seal a deal.

Given Bayern have seemingly determined Mane is the winger they’ll axe, the chances of seeing him line up at Stamford Bridge next season have swelled.
