Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham team are stepping up their preparations at Hotspur Way ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Luton Town. Unbeaten in their first seven league fixtures of the 2023/24 campaign, Spurs will be out to make it eight when they visit Kenilworth Road.
The Hatters have struggled in the Premier League since their promotion from the Championship back in May, although they did claim their first victory of the season six days ago after beating Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park. The Lilywhites may be the firm favourites to come out on top in Bedfordshire but it will still be a tricky game for Postecoglou’s men as their opponents look to achieve the points to move them away from danger.
Putting in the work at their Enfield training base, the club gave an insight into their latest session with the release of their latest training video. Here are five things we spotted in Tottenham training.
Gil steps up his fitness
The opportunity Bryan Gil has been waiting for at Tottenham could finally be about to come his way. Initially training under Postecoglou in the first few weeks of pre-season but unfortunately missing out on the summer tour through injury and having to go under the knife as a result, the Spaniard has yet to play in a match for the Spurs head coach.
That could be about to change over the coming weeks, though, now that he is back training with his Tottenham teammates. Working hard on the training pitch, Gil’s return will come as a big boost to Postecoglou after seeing Manor Solomon join Ivan Perisic and Brennan Johnson in the treatment room this week.
Short on attacking options at present, that may now open up the door for Gil to get his first minutes of the season and show what he can do. Many will be hoping to see him on the pitch on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Luton Town.

Lo Celso involved
Another big positive for Postecoglou heading into this weekend’s game at Kenilworth Road is Giovani Lo Celso’s involvement in Tottenham training. Wowing in pre-season but unfortunately finding minutes hard to come by following the start of the league campaign, the Argentina international was given his opportunity in the Carabao Cup tie at Fulham but he unfortunately limped off with a quad strain.
Not featuring in a game for the Lilywhites since then, Lo Celso’s comeback may have taken a little longer than many initially envisaged but his return to fitness is welcome news given Solomon’s injury setback. With Postecoglou set to speak to the media at 1pm on Friday afternoon, the 58-year-old will provide the latest on both Lo Celso and Gil when he previews the Luton encounter.
Lo Celso should certainly be there or thereabouts in terms of his fitness as he has been called up to the Argentina squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Peru. All connected with Spurs usually dread the international break due to the possibility of injuries arising but the games could come at exactly the right time for Lo Celso as he looks to regain true match sharpness.
Lloris spotted
Expected to end his long association with the club this summer after making his feelings crystal clear on his future, Hugo Lloris still remains a Tottenham player after a move away didn’t come to fruition. Named in Spurs’ 25-man Premier League squad despite previous doubts over his selection, the Frenchman can be selected in the matchday squad by Postecoglou if he so wishes.
That hasn’t been the case so far this season, however, with Fraser Forster the goalkeeper on the bench and Guglielmo Vicario’s deputy. For those wondering where exactly Lloris is following limited sightings of him so far this season, he is training with the rest of the Spurs squad as usual.
In the training video uploaded to Tottenham’s YouTube channel, the World Cup winner could be seen doing a number of stretches in the gym alongside his teammates. It now remains to be seen whether the veteran goalkeeper will be included in a Spurs squad once again before his time at the club finally comes to an end.
Youngsters involved
Tottenham fans will be hoping to see academy ace Jamie Donley make the matchday squad for the second successive game after his appearance on the bench against Liverpool. The attacker, who has five goals and seven assists to his name this season for the club’s youngsters, was rewarded for his fine form with a call-up to the matchday 20 for the showdown vs the Reds.
Donley unfortunately didn’t get on to make his senior bow but that could well be just around the corner going on his huge impact this season. The 18-year-old was once again involved in Tottenham training at Hotspur Way as he looks to make his mark under Postecoglou.
Donley was joined in training by fellow Spurs youngster Alfie Dorrington, with both seen sharing a joke in the gym as they warmed up ahead of the session. Tottenham have some excellent youngsters coming through the system at present, including centre-back Dorrington who is regarded very highly by the club.
Photo gatecrashed
It wouldn’t be a training session without the winning team being photographed. On this occasion, Donley, Emerson Royal, Cristian Romero, Ashley Phillips and Dejan Kulusevski came out on top and very much looked like they enjoyed their victory.
One player who didn’t look best pleased, though, was Pape Matar Sarr. The Senegal ace could be seen standing with his hands on his hips a few yards behind the quintet.
Yves Bissouma was another player who just wouldn’t let them have their moment as he could be seen standing in front of the players with his arms in the air as he tried to stop the club photographer getting the perfect shot.
