Liverpool have acquired Ryan Gravenberch : is he enough?
Liverpool wanted to add Ryan Gravenberch for a very long time, but whether he is enough remains unclear. The Reds made several inquiries about the player which Bayern Munich rejected. But through trial, error, and serious negotiations, the club landed the player.
There were many reasons one can jump to when considering why Liverpool did its very best to land the player. The player is both young and energetic with a very important skillset. Moreover, the 21 year old is also priced at an affordable £35 million, a great price this late into the window.
The player will be relieving much of the pressure Wataru Endo is currently experiencing. As Endo’s main role as an addition was to compensate for the now Chelsea players Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. Still, while it is great to have the player, it becomes clear that he might not be what the club truly needs.
Why Gravenberch is not enough for Liverpool
Ryan Gravenberch can preform exceptionally, but not at the position the Reds assigned him. The player will be a No 6 for the team, with his main role being defence.
“I think he’s more of a No 8, he’s box-to-box, he gets forward – and I think that’s why Bayern got rid of him, because Thomas Tuchel didn’t want to play him in that position.” Responded the English commentator Jamie Carragher when asked about the transfer.
Still, the player has the skillset to fill the role. The player is 21 year old and can adapt to his new position very easily.
Furthermore, Gravenberch will likely change roles in the future once a suitable player is available to fill his current shirt. And yet, with the current exits and injuries suffered this transfer window, the young man might not be enough.

Audio of Virgil van Dijk conversation with Newcastle referee released as Liverpool fans’ worst fears realised
Liverpool fans’ worst fears could be realised after audio from Virgil van Dijk’s red card incident against Newcastle United was released.
Last month, Liverpool travelled to St.James’ Park to take on Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side.
After going 1-0 down, things went from bad to worse for Jurgen Klopp as Van Dijk was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Alexander Isak in the 28th minute.
At first, Liverpool were hoping that their captain will only miss one match but now, he could face an extended ban.
After he was charged by the FA last week for ‘abuse’ towards the official, the audio from the incident was released.
A statement from the FA read: “Virgil van Dijk has been charged with a breach of FA rule E3.1 following Liverpool’s Premier League game against Newcastle United on Sunday, 27 August.”
During the Premier League’s new show, Match Officials Mic’d Up, fans got the chance to see and hear the process behind the decision to send Van Dijk off.
The Liverpool man was spotted saying “f***king joke” towards the referee after it was confirmed by VAR that the red card decision was correct.

As a result of the FA charge and the audio proof, Van Dijk is set to miss Liverpool’s next two matches, against Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United.
At the time, manager Klopp said: “I don’t think it is a red card. It’s pretty much no contact, very little, and it’s on the way to the ball, but what can I say? The decision is like this, I cannot change it and I don’t want it.”
Whilst former Premier League referee, Mike Dean, said: “Van Dijk disagreed as he unleashed a verbal volley on fourth official Craig Pawson, which was out of line.
“Depending on what is written in the referee’s report, Van Dijk may find himself in further trouble with the football authorities.”
