Report: Liverpool now confidently   beat Manchester United to £400,000-a-week player, medical booked today

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are now reportedly confident that they will beat Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United to the signing of Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich in the final days of the summer transfer window.

90min has reported that both Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch this summer.

Bundesliga champions Bayern are looking for £20 million in transfer fees for Gravenberch, and Liverpool are confident that they will complete a deal before Friday’s deadline.

90min has added that there is interest in Gravenberch from Manchester United, but it is Liverpool who are in pole position now for the 21-year-old.

Gravenberch is one of the best young midfielders around, and we believe that he would be a very good signing for Liverpool.

The Netherlands international is only 21 now and can certainly develop and improve in the coming years.

That Bayern signed Gravenberch from Ajax in the summer of 2022 shows just how good he is.

Manchester United’s reported interest in the Dutchman is also a testimony to his talent.

The youngster struggled to make an impact at the Allianz Arena last season, but he is just 21 now and will get back to the level he showed at Ajax.

The midfielder made three starts and 21 substitute appearances in the Bundesliga and made two starts and four substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League for the Bavarian giants last season.

What people close to Ibrahima Konate are now saying about leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia – journalist
After Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but there’s some good news for Liverpool fans.

The Reds have already lost Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi clubs, while Roberto Firmino also moved there after deciding against extending his stay at Anfield. If reports are to be believed, Salah and Konate, along with Joe Gomez, are being targetted now.

Journalist Lewis Steele shared the latest on The Daily Mail.

Ibrahima Konate has been an unbelievable player for Liverpool since he joined them from RB Leipzig.

The Frenchman has formed a solid partnership at the back alongside Virgil van Dijk, and he is one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players.

Liverpool could do with a new centre-back themselves before the window shuts tomorrow night, but the last thing they need is the prospect of losing one of their own.

Rumours emerged that Saudi giants Al-Ittihad, who also want Salah, sounded out Konate about a big-money move this summer to the King Abdullah Sports City.

However, Steele has revealed that people close to the French defender are playing those rumours down.

He said: “Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez have both also been linked to the Saudi Pro League, which is my most-used phrase this summer. We understand no official contact for Konate has been made and the player would not want to leave Liverpool. He is well-liked in the dressing room and said to be one of the ‘class clowns’.

“Those close to the Frenchman say that reports linking him away are exaggerated and not one for Liverpool fans to worry about.”

That is a big relief, isn’t it?

Liverpool fans and clubs in Saudi have a complicated relationship following their fairly public pursuit of Mohamed Salah over the last few days.

Reds supporters just don’t want to see the Egyptian leave, and we’re sure they have the same opinion on Ibu Konate, who is a fan favourite at Anfield.

We think there’s no way Konate will leave Liverpool anytime soon.

“I hope…” – Liverpool star’s father admits he wants his son to leave the club
Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara’s father has said he hopes his son departs Merseyside to join a team in La Liga.

It has been a summer of upheaval for Liverpool’s midfield, with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho having both been lured by lucrative deals to Saudi Arabia, and the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all departing for free upon the expiry of their contracts.

The Reds have signed Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai however, with the latter having particularly impressed in the opening three games of the Premier League season.

Meanwhile, influential Spaniard Thiago Alcantara is close to a long-awaited return to action, having returned to training after the Reds’ dramatic 2-1 over Newcastle on Sunday.

The 32-year-old was unable to take part in any pre-season fixtures due to a hip problem that required surgery before the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

However, Thiago’s return will inevitably provide a boost to Jurgen Klopp’s side for the rest of the campaign.

But in the medium to long term, Thiago’s future may reside away from Merseyside. He has been linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League throughout the summer, while his father Mazinho, has admitted he would love to see his son move to La Liga side Celta Vigo this summer.

Mazinho, a 1994 World Cup winner with Brazil, played 114 games for Celta over a four-year spell, while his son Rafinha – Thiago’s brother – played 32 games on loan there in the 2013/14 campaign, and another 29 encounters for the club in 2019/20.

On the prospect of Thiago moving to Celta, Mazinho said via Mundo Deportivo: “In football you never know.

“I hope so [that he can sign for Celta] but at the moment it is very complicated because Thiago has another dimension and another lifestyle.

“But I wish Thiago could come here. Almost all the memories I have from here are very good. Vigo is our home.

“Rafinha has had the opportunity to come here later to play two seasons… for the whole family, Celta means our home.”

Football Digest: Liverpool need additions before deadline

With less than 48 hours to go until the summer transfer window closes, time is running out for Liverpool to get their business done and dusted.

The Reds have made three major summer signings so far, with Alexis Mac Allister, Waturo Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai arriving to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. The trio signed after six players departed, including Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner.

Liverpool could go and target another midfielder before the window slams shut on Friday at 11pm, with Andre, Wilfred Ndidi and Joao Palhinha all linked. As well as incomings, the Reds could also allow several first-team stars to leave Anfield as Klopp reshapes his squad.

With that in mind, here are the latest rumours to come from Liverpool.

Celtic close in on Phillips

Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips, according to the Times.

The 26-year-old is set to join The Hoops on a season-long loan as Brendan Rodgers tries to bolster his squad following recent injuries to Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki. Phillips has not made an appearance for Liverpool so far this season and has fallen down the pecking order.

Speaking about his defensive options last week, Rodgers said: “I think we have to look at it, there’s no doubt. It’s an area that we are light on.” If the deal is done in time, Phillips could make his Celtic debut in the Old Firm against Rangers on Sunday – their final game before the international break.

Phillips has two years left on run on his Liverpool contract, having made his first appearance for the Reds back in 2020. He has played a total of 29 matches under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool will not sign Doucoure

Liverpool have no intention of signing Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure before the end of the summer window.

According to the Evening Standard, the Reds will resist matching Palace’s £70million asking price for the Mali midfielder. Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were both keen on a move for Doucoure, but Klopp’s men are not interesting in making a bid ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline.

The 23-year-old was left out of Palace’s squad to face Plymouth in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. But he is expected to be back in contention for their Premier League game at home to Wolves.

Saudis plot Konate move

Saudi side Al-Ittihad are now plotting a move for Ibrahima Konate as they continue to pursue Mohamed Salah.

Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have already made the switch to the Middle-East this summer, while Joe Gomez is also of interest to Al-Ittihad.

According to French outlet RMC, they are also interested in Konate. It has been reported that he is an alternative to compatriot Jean-Clair Todibo – who is said to have already rejected a huge offer to stay with current club Nice.

Konate, 24, arrived at Liverpool from German giants RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021. Since then, he has gone on to make 55 appearances for the Reds but has struggled with injuries during his time at Anfield.

Romano said: “Ryan Gravenberch – I think this is going to be a crucial story in the next 24 hours because today (Wednesday) Liverpool called Bayern.

“Let me clarify, Liverpool spent a big part of the summer calling Bayern for Gravernerch – calling the agents of the player to be informed on Gravenberch, it’s better to say like this. Liverpool and Man United, both clubs had conversations with the agents.

“But in June-July, Liverpool had important discussions with the player’s side, and the player was always keen on the move. I can confirm that Gravenberch wants to go to Liverpool. This is very clear. Gravenberch is really attracted by this possibility.”

TBR View:

This is great news for Liverpool.

There are less than two days left in the transfer window, and after seeing both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia reject them, there’s always a worry about players’ preferences.

Now, if Romano is to be believed, Gravenberch wants to join Liverpool, and all that’s left to do now is for the Reds and Bayern Munich to find an agreement.
