Al-Ittihad negotiating £120 million deal for world-class Liverpool attacker

Saudi Arabia are creating quite a stir.

Following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United nine months ago, the wealthy Saudi Pro League have continued to poach some of European football’s biggest names.

Karim Benzema followed Ronaldo’s lead and multiple other big-name stars have also joined the lucrative Middle Eastern league, including England’s Jordan Henderson.

However, while the majority of Liverpool fans may not have been too concerned about losing their 33-year-old captain, who had undoubtedly already given the Reds his best years, things could be about to change.

And that is because recent reports claim Mohamed Salah is the Saudi Pro League’s next target.

“It is true. There are negotiations between Mohamed Salah and the Saudi club Al-Ittihad,” a source told national outlet Al-Riyadiyah.

This is what I can say, for now I have no other details. The offer must be attractive for the Egyptian star to come to play in Saudi Arabia.”

It has been noted that Al-Ittihad, who have already lured Fabinho from Merseyside, are willing to offer the 2019-20 Premier League champions another £60 million, but this time, in exchange for their world-class number 11.

Not only that but in an attempt to convince Salah to leave Europe, Al-Ittihad are thought to be prepared to pay the 31-year-old Egypt international an eye-watering £155 million over two seasons.

Mohamed Salah has received a massive offer to move to Saudi Arabia if reports that Egyptian journalist Ismael Mahmoud has cited are accurate.

The reporter cites Al-Riyadiah newspaper as claiming that Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad is prepared to pay Salah an annual salary of €90 million (£77.7m) or around €1.7m/week (£1.4m/week).

Ittihad are also prepared to pay Liverpool a fee of around €60 million (£51m). After signing Jordan Henderson, Ittihad hope to sign Salah but the forward doesn’t want to leave Anfield and Liverpool will not consider a sale.

Last season, Salah scored 30 goals despite his side’s struggles for form and took his overall tally at the club to 186. The former Basel attacker should reach 200 goals for Liverpool this season, a possibility that underscores his excellence for the Reds.

If Salah, scores for Liverpool on the opening day of the season, it will be the seventh time he has done so and will stand as a new record. To date, Salah has not failed to score in an opening day Premier League match since signing for Liverpool.

It’s no surprise that Jurgen Klopp and co. will not consider a sale at any price given his influence. More significantly, there aren’t any forwards in his position that would provide the same quality.

The Egyptian may be 31 but he has shown little sign of slowing down and with his £350,000/week contract only set to expire in 2025, Liverpool would be best served holding onto him as long as possible.
