Leeds United want to sign Divock Origi, AC Milan open to striker sale
Leeds United have tabled an offer to sign AC Milan striker Divock Origi this summer, according to a report by SportMediaset.
Writing on their website, as relayed by Milanpress (18 July), the Whites are keen on signing the Belgium striker and have tabled an offer to the Serie A side for his services.
While no details of the bid are shared, it does state that they face competition from Premier League club Crystal Palace and that Milan are open to his exit after he managed just two goals following his arrival from Liverpool.
“As for exits, offers from Turkey for Rebic and from the Premier League (Crystal Palace and Leeds) for Origi,” they wrote.
Ambitious
Origi is a strange player because he quite clearly has talent and knows how to score goals – just look at his record for Belgium and Liverpool.
But he struggled big time at Milan this past season and a return to England where he would surely be the first-choice option at Elland Road could be exactly what he needs to get back on track.
Having the pedigree of playing regularly in Europe for years is something that would surely see him light up the Championship, and considering that he joined Milan on a free transfer last year it’s highly unlikely that he would too expensive.
Convincing him to drop to the Championship is certainly a task that the board and manager shouldn’t underestimate, especially if he has interest from Palace and other clubs abroad.
But if Leeds are able to bring him to the club they can feel assured they have a goalscorer in the side that will find the net when given an opportunity, and that is the most important thing when heading a promotion push.
Exeter City receives seven-figure windfall from Leeds United amid done deal – BBC Sport
Ethan Ampadu’s transfer to Leeds United could see League One side Exeter City gain up to £1.7million, according to BBC Sport.
While the total amount is unknown, a tribunal awarded Exeter a 20 per cent share of any profits on a Chelsea sale of Ampadu, who came through the academy at St James Park and was sold to the West London club in 2017.
Ampadu’s transfer to Leeds was confirmed on Wednesday (19 July) [Leeds United] for £7million plus add-ons as he becomes Daniel Farke’s first summer signing.
While £1.7million wouldn’t be a lot to Premier League Chelsea, to League One Exeter it could mean the difference between a good and bad transfer window.
The Grecians are owned by the Exeter City Supporter’s Trust, so can’t rely on a wealthy owner to bankroll them and must be self-sustainable to remain active and competitive.
Leeds working towards signing that could make things ‘awkward’ – journalist
Leeds United have got the ball rolling in the transfer window by announcing the signing of Ethan Ampadu.
The Whites have landed the 22-year-old Wales international defender from Chelsea for a reported £7million.
Leeds have also lost the services of several players and there could be more departing in the coming weeks.
Illan Meslier could be one of those leaving Elland Road before the summer transfer window slams shut.
As a young, Premier League-proven asset with high potential, Leeds stand to make a sizeable profit on him.
In addition, Meslier has shown he can perform at the highest level, so he may not want to stay in the Championship.
Dean Jones, speaking on GiveMeSport, says Leeds are already in pursuit of a new goalkeeper.
The likes of Angus Gunn, Freddie Woodman and Karl Darlow have been linked with a move to Elland Road.
Jones reckons they are all “good goalkeepers” for Leeds to be pursuing as replacements for the current No. 1.
However, the journalist acknowledged that it’s a “bit of an awkward one” as Meslier doesn’t appear to have a buyer.
“They’re all good goalkeepers to be targeting,” said Jones.
“That is one of the four positions that have been outlined for Leeds to sort out before the season gets underway, so work is beginning on that.
“It is a bit of an awkward one though, because Illan Meslier hasn’t actually got a buyer yet.”
Our view
Meslier might not have any suitors just yet, according to Jones. But with a player of his talent, you’d think there will be some interest at some point.
We still have around five weeks left in the transfer window, so a lot can change.
Leeds certainly need to target a replacement. There are some good names doing the rounds in terms of Whites speculation.
Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. Hopefully it all ends up being quite seamless, with Meslier being sold for profit and a replacement coming in.
