An Edo state ‘big man’ has been caught for allegedly stealing a bottle of Hennessy VSOP worth N58,000, from a supermarket in the state.

In similar news, a lady who reportedly stole dresses, and wig caps from another lady to do Tiktok video content has been nabbed.

The video was shared by the former friend of the alleged thief and showed the moment the owner of the dresses and wig caps got to the compound of the suspect.

According to the video sharer, the clothes the lady used for her Tiktok video content were allegedly stolen after she brought her to her residence to rent a vacant apartment.

According to her, she had to betray her former friend because the lady whose items were stolen involved the police.

According to a source, “I helped her in getting accommodation and the only way she could repay me was by st£aling someone’s luggage of clothes and hair. She uses the stolen items to make several videos on her TikTok.

I was told to ‘produce’ her since I was the one that brought her to the residence. We found her and taught her a brief lesson before handing her over to the authorities.”

FIFA reveals£159m payouts to clubs for World Cup representation
FIFA has announced the breakdown in compensation paid to clubs around the world for their players participating at the 2022 World Cup.

The tournament was held at a time when many of the top leagues around the world had already started, resulting in a break in domestic action while 32 nations competed in Qatar.

Although that quirk did not necessarily influence the funds that are now being paid out to the relevant clubs, FIFA has moved to reveal which confederations, leagues and clubs received the most bonus income.

As expected, UEFA representatives receive the bulk of the money, as many as 275 clubs receiving a share of $158.9m (£121m) with AFC (Asian Football Confederation) next on the list with 67 teams accumulating a total of $23.79 (£18.12m).

Of the national organisations in question, England’s Football Association is the biggest beneficiary, a total of $37.71m (£28.72m) being paid out to the clubs in questions.

Spain’s RFEF received $24.2m (£18.43m), Germany’s DFB were handed $21m (£15.99m), Italy’s FIGC got $18.68m (£14.22m) and France’s FFF collected $16.56m (£12.61m).

Manchester City topped the list of clubs around the world, recouping $4.6m (£3.5m), with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain completing the top five and all receiving at least $3.84m (£2.92m).

Al-Sadd notably received as much as $2.82m (£2.15m), a consequence of having as many as 13 players named in Qatar’s 23-player squad.

Looking at English football specifically, as many as 11 Premier League clubs received at least $1.15m (£880,000): Man City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City, Fulham and Brentford.

A total of 46 teams feature on the list, some of which did not directly have World Cup representatives at their club but fulfil criteria courtesy of having players on their books during what FIFA describes as “the two years leading up to the final stage of the World Cup’.

Boreham Wood are a notable English name, the National League side receiving $31,026 (£23,626) courtesy of Wales international Sorba Thomas having represented the club during the 2020-21 campaign.

Liverpool’s new sporting director is eyeing a second move for a Bundesliga player.

The former Wolfsburg director was said to have been interested in young centre-back Micky van de Ven, but no move came to pass.

However, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone is said to be of interest to the Liverpool man, despite currently being out for six weeks following an injury at the Under-21 European Championships:

“Jorg Schmadtke made clear that it won’t happen between Liverpool and Micky van de Ven,” German reporter Christian Falk stated.

“At Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is saying what he wants in the market and Schmadkte is making plans from this.

“We’ve been previously talking about Manu Kone, for example. He had a knee injury at the European U21 Championship, so it will take time, as he can’t pass any medical tests at the moment. So this could be a topic that will be interesting for English clubs like Liverpool. Schmadtke has an eye on him. So these are things in the background that Schmadtke is doing at the moment.”

Kone is a natural central midfielder who scored one and assisted one in 30 Bundesliga outings last season.

He is also under contract with Gladbach until 2025 with the option of a further year.

Youngster ‘deeply saddened’ after training setback

It didn’t take long for Liverpool’s first injury setback of the season to arrive. With pre-season barely having got underway, one player is looking at a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

It’s heartbreaking for Harvey Blair, who had been making some major strides. Despite battling injury troubles, he managed five goals in 16 Premier League 2 appearances last season, and Jürgen Klopp promoted him to train with the main group on the first day of Liverpool’s pre-season training.

Blair took to Instagram to confirm the diagnosis of a meniscus tear.

“After a positive beginning to the new season, I am deeply saddened to say that I sustained a meniscus tear during training earlier this week,” he wrote.

“It is undeniably a challenging setback, but I firmly believe that with the appropriate mindset and the help of God, I will overcome this difficult phase. See you soon reds!”

Klopp handed Blair a Liverpool debut against Preston in October 2021. The ECHO reports that Aberdeen and Portsmouth had both been looking at striking a loan deal for the teenager.

Agent confirms Liverpool meeting

An agent has seemingly confirmed meetings with Liverpool over a potential transfer deal. Gerald Sagoe has confirmed to TuttoMercatoWeb that he was ‘contacted’ about his client by Klopp’s side towards the end of last season, and that ‘preliminary meetings’ were held in Paris.

That’s something of a surprise, with his client Pape Diop far from a household name. The midfielder did get on the score sheet at the U20 World Cup, although his Senegal side failed to make it out of the groups, and his club SV Zulte Waregem was recently relegated from the Belgian top flight — during a campaign in which the 19-year-old barely featured.

If Diop has caught the eye of Liverpool, it will be thanks to his exploits at the U20 African Cup of Nations earlier in the year, where he finished as top scorer. A transfer would also theoretically be easier now thanks to the change in work permit rules.

Sagoe suggests Napoli has also expressed an interest, and that there are meetings to come in Germany this week too. Of course, agent talk has to be taken with a very healthy pinch of salt. But with FSG having to confront ever-rising transfer fees, it would not be a surprise to see it pivot to higher-risk deals to find young talent and buy it at source.

Jurgen Klopp has delved into Liverpool’s past to find a nickname for new boy Alexis Mac Allister – and he’ll hope it can be a lucky omen.

Mac Allister was the first signing of the summer after the Reds signed him from Brighton for a mere £35m.

Klopp calls Mac Allister as Gary – Former Liverpool player

Klopp has called his new Liverpool recruit, Mac Allister as ‘Gary’ in a nod to the Reds’ former midfielder.

Scot Gary McAllister raised eyebrows when he arrived at Liverpool on a free transfer in 2000 at the age of 35.

However, his ability and experience helped Liverpool to a treble of FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Cup in his first full season.

He left in 2002 as a Reds legend despite his relatively short time at the club. Mac Allister joins a Liverpool side who have been demoted to Europe’s second-tier competition.

The coming campaign, they would be playing in the Europa League for the first time since 2016 and the first time under Klopp.

Klopp is hoping that Gary along with Szoboszlai could hit the ground running in their pre-season under the German.

He expressed his happiness about the two signings so far.

“Very happy! Two very good players.

I was immediately thinking about nicknames and I thought it would be great nickname for Alexis… Gary! He plays pretty good football, obviously, the same as Dom.

I was pretty clear in the moment we signed them, the public reception was pretty good, internally it was outstanding, the boys know about football so they were immediately like, ‘Oh my God…’ so that’s really good.

Now they are here and didn’t take long, let me say, to impress on the pitch as well, so that’s good. How I said, some changes, Trent cut his hair – [back to] the most successful haircut in his career, so he sacrificed the cool look for success, I like that!”

The Reds travel to Germany on Saturday ahead of their first pre-season friendly of the summer against Karlsruher.

Klopp remains in good spirits despite ongoing transfer speculation around midfield pair Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
