DONE DEAL:Tottenham has signed  28-year-old Barcelona star, perfect in football aspects

Although there’s still a month to go until pre-season for the 2023/24 campaign, it seems that Tottenham Hotspur are trying to get some deals done early.

New manager, Ange Postecoglou, will do well to hit the ground running at White Hart Lane and get the Spurs supporters onside from the get go.

Thursday saw confirmation of the signing of a new goalkeeper in Guglielmo Vicario, per The Guardian (subscription required), and though the north Londoners don’t need a root and branch clear out, bringing in a handful of other players whilst ridding themselves of any dead wood is surely going to help Postecoglou.

To that end, according to Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are keen to retain the services of 28-year-old Barcelona centre-back, Clement Lenglet.

The Frenchman, who was loaned to the Premier League club by the Spanish league giants, clearly has no future under Xavi Hernandez, and it is surely in his best interests to find a new employer sooner rather than later.

Report: Tottenham are now hesitating over potential deal for centre-back

Despite reports suggesting Tottenham Hotspur were close to agreeing a permanent deal for Clement Lenglet, the latest from Spain claims the North London side are now having second thoughts.

Lenglet joined Spurs on a season-long loan last year as the club looked to reinforce a shaky defence.

The Frenchman did a decent job across 35 appearances for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt), without ever really setting the world alight.

The 27-year-old has now returned to Barcelona due to his loan deal ending, but appears to have no future at the Catalan club.

According to Sport.es, the Spanish side are desperate to offload Clement Lenglet in order to appease the financial promises they made to La Liga last summer.

It was previously suggested that a deal could be struck for around £5 million and Mundo Deportivo suggested both Barca and Tottenham Hotspur were doing all they could to get the transfer finalised by the end of June. However, there could now be a spanner in the works.

Clement Lenglet negotiations are not advancing

The latest report from Mundo Deportivo suggests the permanent transfer of Lenglet to Spurs has gone from being very straightforward to now being in danger of collapsing entirely.

Clement Lenglet negotiations are not advancing

The latest report from Mundo Deportivo suggests the permanent transfer of Lenglet to Spurs has gone from being very straightforward to now being in danger of collapsing entirely.

Apparently, there has been “permanent contact” between the two clubs and it was assumed “progress was being made.” But still, the transfer has not been completed.

While there is “no news” at present, it is suggested Barcelona’s interest in using Lenglet as a “bargaining chip” in a potential move for Giovani Lo Celso has not been met with approval by Spurs. It is thought Tottenham are now growing “restless” and have begun to look elsewhere.

The report cites Fabrizio Romano as a source of interest, with the transfer expert earmarking Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba as a player Spurs are also keen on.

It is suggested any move for the Bundesliga player would make it very “difficult” for Lenglet to head to North London.

Spurs Web Opinion

We should not be messing about trying to sign Clement Lenglet for too long. If Barcelona want to sell him cheap, we can take him off their hands, but if they want to make it complicated we should move on and sign other, better players instead.
