Leeds United are interested in signing Tottenham outcast Harry Winks this summer and the Whites can offer him the ideal platform for a career revival at Elland Road.

The 27-year-old has become something of a forgotten man in North London, having emerged on the scene as one of the club’s bright sparks when he broke through the scene during Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure.

However, the past few years have proven difficult for the ten-time England international who was shipped out on loan to Sampdoria last summer in search of more game-time, featuring in 20 league appearances.

It’s believed the Englishman will return to Tottenham before making a decision on his future after the appointment of Ange Postecoglou and is attracting the interest of Leeds United (Samp News 24, 7 June).

With the Whites set to lose plenty of their key stars this summer, it may prove a chance for the club to attempt to sign established and outcast Premier League players to help their quest for an immediate return to the English top-flight, and Winks certainly presents a sensible and attractive proposition.

Leeds United may be gearing up for the departure of key man Tyler Adams this summer, and would quickly need to identify a replacement ahead of a crucial and busy summer of recruitment.

The American was a standout performer during the 2022/23 season and has been linked with Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Newcastle United in recent days.

And it’s clear his future does not lie in the Championship next season, although the Leeds United hierarchy could be forgiven for pushing for him to remain at Elland Road.

However, should the worst happen, Winks is a superb target to pursue and Whites can offer him a career revival he’s been desperate for so long.

It’s uncertain whether he’d establish himself again in a Tottenham shirt with new boss Postecoglu set to overhaul his midfield, and with the midfielder desperate for guaranteed game-time and an opportunity to become a key player elsewhere, they may well be no better platform to achieve that than Elland Road.

Leeds United will be desperate for leadership and characters in their dressing room next season, if they are to climb back into the Premier League at the first attempt, and have certainly identified a crucial component to their rebuild.

Winks’ experience, composure, vision, dynamism from midfield and keen eye for a telling pass could prove a crucial tool in the Championship. Whether it’s a permanent move or a loan one, Winks is just the kind of foundation Leeds United should be building their new squad around next season.

The club still holds such tremendous pull and prestige despite their position right now, and it may not be difficult to persuade the 27-year-old to join their ranks next season.
