Harvey Elliott has sarcastically wished Jurgen Klopp well after the Liverpool manager injured his hamstring during the team’s victory over Tottenham.

Klopp sprinted down the touchline to confront the fourth official after Diogo Jota scored a late winner, but was upset that Spurs had been awarded a free-kick that led to their equalizer just moments before.

Klopp expressed his anger towards the officials after the game but appeared to injure himself when arguing about the decision to award the free-kick to Spurs.

The 20-year-old also jokingly said that Klopp is in the squad’s “prayers” after he picked up an injury while celebrating on the touchline. He said, via GOAL:

“We’re still waiting for the news on that (Klopp’s injury). Touch wood he is all OK.

I think we all celebrated the goal in the same way so hopefully he hasn’t done too much damage. He’ll be in our prayers.”

Harvey Elliott eager to prove himself at Liverpool

Harvey Elliott has struggled to maintain his ever-present status in the team due to the recent mini-revival in Liverpool’s performance. Elliott was not involved in Liverpool’s previous six games, as Klopp adjusted the team’s formation to include Trent Alexander-Arnold as an inverted full-back when the team is in possession.

However, he was given an opportunity to showcase his skills in Liverpool’s win against Tottenham on Sunday, making his first appearance in over a month. Elliott had been adapting to the new formation, and he admitted that the last month was tough for him personally, but he was determined to win his place back permanently.

He also acknowledged that the other players have been performing exceptionally well. He equaled his career-best total of 42 appearances in a season against Tottenham, and he is expected to be part of Liverpool’s future plans.

The Reds will revamp their engine room this summer, and long-term target Jude Bellingham is unlikely to be among the new senior signings. The team is expected to bring in two or three new midfielders, which could limit Elliott’s game-time next season, but he is already relishing the prospect of fresh competition.

Despite being young, Elliott has proved to be an impressive and integral part of Liverpool’s midfield. Klopp is known for giving young players a chance, and he has high hopes for Elliott. Klopp’s adjustment to Liverpool’s formation allowed Elliott to showcase his skills again, but he still has to prove himself worthy of a permanent spot in the team.

Brighton’s next four games compared to Man United, Liverpool, Tottenham amid race for Europe

The end of the 2022/23 Premier League season draws near and qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history is still very much on the cards for Brighton.

Brighton remain eighth on 52 points from 31 matches, but Roberto De Zerbi’s men have a huge advantage in their ambitions to qualify for Europe by having two or three games in-hand on those above them in table.

Aston Villa’s ten-game unbeaten run, which included eight wins, came to an end on Sunday after losing 1-0 away at Manchester United. Unai Emery’s side dropped to seventh as a result and are just two points ahead of Brighton, who have played two games fewer.

Diogo Jota’s stoppage-time winner for Liverpool in a 4-3 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday lifted the Reds up to fifth in the table, with Spurs dropping to sixth. Tottenham are on 54 points from 34 games, whereas Liverpool have collected 56 points from 33 matches.

Only two of the four Champions League spots remain up for grabs, with title chasers Manchester City and Arsenal already cementing their place in the competition for next season. Newcastle United and Manchester United lead the race for the last two slots, sitting third and fourth respectively, with Brighton 11 points adrift of the latter.
