RB Leipzig to return with second transfer bid for Liverpool midfielder after £10m rejection
The German club have expressed a serious interest in midfielder Fabio Carvalho.
RB Leipzig are expected to return with a fresh bid for Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho after initially having a £10million bid rejected.
Carvalho arrived from Fulham last summer for a fee of around £7.7m but struggled for regular game time across the campaign. As a result, the German club tested the water with a bid in excess of £10m last week, but Liverpool rejected the approach and are reluctant to sell.
According to Football Insider, Leipzig are returning with a second bid but senior figures at Liverpool do not wish to sanction the sale of a player they believe will eventually offer an even bigger return. They would instead prefer to sanction a season-long loan deal such as those currently on offer from Burnley, West Ham and Brentford.
This news comes after it was revealed that he is not in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for next season and considering he has a deal at the club until 2027 and is still extremely young, a permanent move seems unlikely. Ultimately it may depend on how much Leipzig are willing to put on the table.
Despite featuring 21 times across all competitions, he only averaged 34 minutes per appearance and started just eight game in total. He did manage to score three times with his 98th minute winner against Newcastle United being the obvious standout moment for the 20-year-old.
Liverpool’s midfield struggled for large parts of last season, but Carvalho was overlooked while the young duo of Harvey Elliot and Stefan Bajcetic both regularly started games.
Despite James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo all departing this summer, the club are expected to invest heavily in midfielders, meaning Carvalho will once again have a fight on his hands.
While Carvalho is out of favour at Liverpool, the Reds aren’t looking to see him leave permanently, so a loan move could be the way to go for the player and it would help bolster the Blades’ limited midfield options.

Liverpool among several EPL clubs eyeing up teenage gem in potential replica of Ben Doak swoop
Having signed Ben Doak from Celtic in 2022 when he was 16, Liverpool could again turn to Scotland for a highly promising teenage attacker with a view to the long-term.
TEAMtalk have reported that Hamilton Academical youngster Ryan Oné is being eyed up by the Reds, along with several other Premier League clubs such as Newcastle, Brighton, Manchester United and Everton.
Celtic and Rangers are also keeping tabs on the 16-year-old, whose father Armand played for the likes of Cambridge and Wrexham during a nomadic professional career.

Despite not turning 17 until the final week of this month, Oné has already accrued 28 senior appearances for Hamilton and scored twice, albeit with the majority of those games coming as a substitute (Transfermarkt).
He’s won seven caps for the Scotland under-17 side and, according to the TEAMtalk report, ‘has a bright future ahead of him’.
At such a young age, and with zero top-flight experience, the Scottish prodigy would clearly be purchased with a view to playing in Liverpool’s youth teams at first before potentially graduating into the senior setup.
However, Doak has shown that Jurgen Klopp isn’t afraid to trust in youth when he feels the occasion is right, having handed the ex-Celtic gem five senior appearances this season, two of which came in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).
Oné is certainly one for the long-term rather than the here-and-now, but considering that he was entrusted with plenty of senior football as a 16-year-old, and looking at the scale of reported suitors, he appears to be one of the most promising prospects in Britain.
If Liverpool can win the race for his signature, he could be a name to excite the Kop in a few years’ time.
