has claimed that the 49ers could turn to Steven Gerrard this summer as Leeds United’s next manager if they do complete a takeover from Andrea Radrizzani – with the Italian closing in on a move to buy Sampdoria.

A meeting was held on Tuesday between Radrizzani and his consortium as they looked to thrash out a deal with the already-relegated Serie A side. An agreement had to be made today in order to stop a Sampdoria points deduction.

The report from The Sun claims that if the 49ers do buy Radrizzani out of his 56% majority stake of Leeds, then they could make the surprise decision to turn to Gerrard. A man that has been linked with Leeds in recent months.

The report says that Gerrard, 43, is ‘eyed’ by the 49ers and a ‘possibility’ to take over from Sam Allardyce. Another option is Brendan Rodgers but the chances of the ex-Leicester boss dropping to the Championship seem unlikely.

So, it could be that Gerrard is the man entrusted with guiding Leeds back into the top tier at the first attempt after relegation on Sunday, following a 4-1 loss to Spurs. But the questions and doubt are yet to be answered by the club.
