Former Liverpool duo disagree on Jürgen Klopp switch as Champions League reality clear
Liverpool moved up to fifth in the Premier League table on Sunday evening after securing a crazy 4-3 victory over Tottenham in a rollercoaster match at Anfield.
Curtis Jones, Luis Díaz and Mohamed Salah had given the Reds a 3-0 lead after only a quarter of an hour but Spurs fought back with goals from Harry Kane and Son Heung-min before Richarlison thought he had rescued a point for the visitors in injury time.
But the Reds were not done and in the 94th minute, Diogo Jota pounced on a mistake by Lucas Moura to arrow home a dramatic winner that keeps the Reds’ fading Champions League qualification hopes alive for another week.

The victory was Liverpool’s fourth in succession, but Jürgen Klopp’s side will need to produce a perfect finish to the season if they are to stand any chance of making up the current seven-point deficit between themselves and Manchester United.
The Reds had an injury scare when Díaz was on the receiving end of a late challenge from Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp, but it was Klopp who ended the match on the injury list after the German pulled a hamstring celebrating Jota’s late winner.
Here are the two Liverpool.com stories from today that you shouldn’t miss.
Graeme Souness and Jamie Redknapp disagree on Trent Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been excelling in a new hybrid role for the Reds. Since starting to come into midfield when his side has the ball, the England international has gone assist crazy. Alexander Arnold has produced six assists in his last five matches, with his most recent coming in Sunday’s wild 4-3 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
But when it came to debating exactly why the 24-year-old has been given this new flexible role, Sky Sports’ pundits could not agree on the reason.

Next five Liverpool fixtures compared to Man United
Liverpool will need either Manchester United or Newcastle to suffer a dip in form if the Reds are to stand any chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. The Reds are currently seven points behind their fierce rivals United, who also have a game in hand, but while sneaking into the top four remains a possibility, supporters will still live in hope.
Jürgen Klopp’s team will start a run of five remaining fixtures with two home games next week, but they likely need to win all of their matches between now and the end of the season to have any chance of achieving the seemingly impossible.
