“Special player” Michkov lives up to the hype in Flyers’ debut game shootout loss.

ALLENTOWN, Pennsylvania — Matvei Michkov addressed the crowd and pounded the glass in celebration.

During the second period of Friday’s game, the 19-year-old top prospect dangled the puck around the Rangers’ goalkeeper for a 5-on-3 power play goal.

Michkov drew fans out of their seats at PPL Center, appearing as advertised in his first game action in orange and black. The Flyers’ prospects lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Rangers’ prospects in the first of two rookie games this weekend at AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley’s home.
