Rafael Nadal’s Olympic performance was unsatisfactory, and many have asked him to put his racket down immediately.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion Nadal most recently competed at the Olympics in Paris, where he teamed up with Carlos Alcaraz in a powerful doubles pairing.

Dubbed “Nadalcaraz,” the Spanish team failed to make an impression in the competition, falling to the eventual silver medalists, Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, an American pair, in the quarterfinal.

In the Roland-Garros singles competition, Rafael Nadal also competed, but Novak Djokovic defeated him in the second round.

Additionally, readers of Express Sport claim that Rafael Nadal has been ordered to retire from tennis and that the Olympics should be his final competition as a professional player.

Despite Rafael Nadal holding his cards close to the vest after the Games in Paris, an overwhelming 74% of readers who were questioned if this is the perfect moment for him to call it quits agreed.

When asked if he planned to retire soon, Rafael Nadal snapped back, stating, “You want me to retire every day guys, you ask me for that.”

I’m doing everything I can. I can’t go through every day worrying about whether or not this would be my last match.

The end for Nadal does feel nigh though, not least because the 38-year-old was recently forced to pull out of the US Open.

Taking to social media to announce his withdrawal, Nadal said: “Hi all, writing today to let you guys know that I have decided not to compete at this year’s US Open a place where I have amazing memories.

“I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100% this time.

“Thanks to all my US Fans in particular, will miss you all and will see you another time. Best of luck to all for the always amazing US Open!
