Manchester City now think Newcastle United ‘leader’ wants to join them this summer

Newcastle United do not want to lose any major players before the transfer window closes on August 30th.

Right now, the Magpies are focussed on incomings. In fact, it is just one incoming – Marc Guehi.

Newcastle are confident about signing Guehi, as they await Crystal Palace’s response to their third offer.

But even if Eddie Howe’s side do agree a deal for Guehi, it will not be the end of their summer transfer business. Toon officials needs to sign a winger, while it has been suggested that Newcastle will need to sell before they buy again due to PSR fears.

They will be looking to move fringe players on, with Miguel Almiron linked with a move to the MLS.

Fresh Bruno Guimaraes claim

However, there continues to be rumours about some of Eddie Howe’s top stars. The Anthony Gordon to Liverpool rumours refuse to go away, while there is now a new claim about the Newcastle United future of Bruno Guimaraes.

He was heavily linked with Manchester City earlier this summer, back when his £100million release clause was active. However, Man City thought Bruno was too expensive, and opted against making a move.

But now a new report has suggested that Pep Guardiola’s could make a late approach for the 26-year-old.

According to the Athletic, Manchester City could resurrect their interest in Bruno Guimaraes before the transfer window closes on August 30th.

They add that although a deal between Newcastle and Man City would be ‘difficult’, the Premier League champions believe that Bruno is interested in a move to the Etihad Stadium.

No interest from Liverpool in Bruno

While Man City could potentially come in and make a move for Bruno, there will be no approach from Liverpool.

The Reds are in the market for a midfielder than can play the ‘number six’ role, and it was recently suggested that Liverpool had enquired about Bruno.

However, the Athletic state they have been told by senior Liverpool sources that they are not targeting Bruno Guimaraes.

What Bruno Guimaraes has recently said about his Newcastle future

Liverpool are not interested, but Manchester City could be.

That is a concern heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window, as Man City are the best team around and are managed by the best manager in the world. Playing for them is a direct route towards trophies, so it would be no surprise if Bruno fancied swapping the North East for the North West.

But everything he has said in interviews lately points towards the Brazilian being happy on Tyneside.

Bruno was recently voted into the club’s leadership group, meaning he could end up captaining Newcastle United this season. That would be a tremendous opportunity, and Bruno has said that he wants to be a ‘leader‘ at St James’ Park.

Bruno has also stated that he is happy at Newcastle ahead of the new season, with the midfielder once again set to be the focal point of Eddie Howe’s midfield.

Given how good he is, there will always be fears of interest from elsewhere. So they should be interested – Bruno is one of the best midfielders around. But he belongs to Newcastle, and has been very public about his love for the club and his desire to wear the famous black and white stripes.

And even if Man City do make a move for Bruno despite all of that, it is going to be very difficult to agree a deal with Newcastle United now that his £100million release clause has expired.
