Near on impossible’ – Ryan Mason vents frustration at Spurs’ bad starts to games

Ryan Mason has been speaking to the press after seeing his side come away from Anfield empty-handed this evening, and vented his frustration at yet another bad start to a game from his team.
Tottenham will feel aggrieved to be on the losing side this evening after a thrilling encounter at Anfield saw the home side take all three points in a 4-3 win.

It was a case of déjà vu for Spurs fans as their side conceded three goals in the first 15 minutes, with goals from Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz, and a Mo Salah penalty handing Liverpool what appeared to be an easy victory.
The Lilywhites battled their way back into the game however, and looked to have nabbed a point at the death when a Richarlison effort pulled the scores level.
Harry Kane had scored in the first half, before Heung-min Son added a second to make things interesting.
Diogo Jota capitalised on a Lucas Moura mistake to give Jurgen Klopp’s men the win in the dying moments of the game and helped Liverpool jump above Spurs in the Premier League table.
Speaking after the game, Mason reflected on yet another poor start to the game from Spurs that has cost them dearly.
He told Football.London: “To concede three goals in 15 minutes is not a normal situation. The Premier League is relentless. The last couple of away games to go one, two, three down makes it near impossible to win games of football.
“If you’re not ready for a five or 10-minute spell, then the game can get away from you. We’ve seen that in the last couple of away games.
“To go 3-0 down away from home, it makes it near on impossible to win a game, so it’s hard to understand why. We addressed it and we’re fully aware of it but it’s something we need to be better at, that’s for sure.”
He added: “It is just hard to think of any positives at the moment. We know with the ball we are an exceptional team, we can score goals and hurt anyone in this league with the ball, but you don’t just win games just with the ball and when you literally give the opposition four goals without having to earn it, it makes it very difficult.
“At the same time, we probably could have scored three of four more. I felt like we were probably the better team overall in terms of creating opportunities, but to give the opposition goals it makes it difficult to win games of football.
Spurs Web Opinion
I’ve lost count of how many times this season we have been punished early in the game and ended up losing because of poor defensive organisation and an inability to get with the pace of the match from the get-go.
If we had been more solid from the first whistle today, who knows what the score would have been in the end.
