The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for this year are Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, Mary J. Blige, and Dave Matthews Band.
Peter Frampton, A Tribe Called Quest, Foreigner, and Kool & The Gang are among the artists being inducted under the Performer Category. This category honors “artists who have created music whose originality, impact, and influence has changed the course of rock and roll.”
The names were revealed by host Ryan Seacrest and judge Lionel Richie during American Idol’s “Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night” episode starring Gene Simmons of KISS last night (April 21).
In response to the news, Ozzy Osbourne told Billboard, “Not bad for a guy who got fired from his last band.” Furthermore, it seems more unique than his
nomination alongside Black Sabbath as my solo endeavors have constituted a far greater portion of my whole musical career.
Cher, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang, and Peter Frampton were the first to be nominated. The artist or band must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before the year of nomination in order to be eligible for induction.
The Hall will honor the late Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick, and Norman Whitfield with the Musical Excellence Award in addition to the performer inductions. This award is given to artists, musicians, songwriters, and producers whose originality and influence have had a significant impact on music.
The Musical Influence Award will be given to Big Mama Thornton, John Mayall, and Alexis Korner for
Rock & roll and music that has an impact on youth culture have been directly impacted, inspired, and evolved by music and performance styles.
Lastly, Suzanne de Passe, a non-performing industry expert who has greatly contributed to the development of the art form, will get the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
As for the artists who didn’t make the cut, fans of Jane’s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, and Oasis have voiced their disapproval. Liam Gallagher, the leader of Oasis, may not be bothered by the snub, though.
On Saturday, October 19, 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction will air onDisney+. Then, at a later time, it will air on ABC.
