Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson believes the Premier League will not wish to ‘unwind’ the 115 charges against the club as the club’s hearing edges closer.
In February 2023, City were accused of being in breach of 115 Financial Fair Play (FFP) charges spanning a period between 2009 and 2018. The Blues have always vehemently maintained that they are not guilty of the accusations.
Since the Premier League’s statement, Nottingham Forest and Everton have both been charged, found guilty and deducted points for financial breaches. Meanwhile, it is still not yet clear when City will have their case heard.

Premier League chief Richard Masters has explained that the delay has been down to the complexity and historical nature of City’s alleged offences. While Masters has failed to announce an exact date for the hearing, he recently admitted it would be ‘in the near future’.

As we await the outcome, ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan and Borson have been discussing what the most likely outcome is for the investigation on talkSPORT. “I have always maintained that there will be a settlement, not because I want one, but because it is a lesser of two evils,” Jordan argued.
“Because everyone is in an invidious position. The Premier League are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.”
“If they bring this action and are successful against Man City, they will just discredit their own Premier League and if they don’t…” Borson concluded: “The position you have got is for the Premier League to reverse at this stage…
“I wrote a piece for the Mail of Sunday which really urged the parties to find a way to settle what was going to be a very difficult situation to unwind. I think they have missed that window now and I think it is very hard for the Premier League to unwind it.
“It may be in the interests of the Premier League to take it to the independent commission and lose. To actually try and unwind it at this stage is going to be very difficult for the board of the Premier League.”
Nobody is certain what will happen if City are found guilty of the charges brought against them. Many have argued that it could result in a record-breaking points deduction or immediate relegation from the Premier League.

‘Incredible’ Man United transfer target would prefer to join Man City this summer
Tue 7 May 2024 16:00
James Thompson
One of Manchester United’s transfer targets would reportedly prefer to join Manchester City this summer.
The two Manchester clubs have track records when it comes to signing players from fellow Premier League clubs.
For City, they’ve struck deals with fellow top-flight clubs to sign players such as Jack Grealish, Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes in recent years.
From United’s point of view, they’ve signed players such as Christian Eriksen, Harry Maguire and Mason Mount from other Premier League sides.
Looking ahead to the upcoming summer transfer window, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding one current Premier League player, who the two Manchester sides have had on their radars previously, and what the future could hold for him.

A recent report from The Athletic had this to say about Michael Olise’s current situation at Crystal Palace and what the next summer transfer window could hold for him.
It said: “There is no reason to be concerned over the length of Olise’s contract given the new four-year deal signed in August after he came close to joining Chelsea.
“A release clause will unquestionably entice many clubs again this summer.
“Manchester United could conceivably be one of those, particularly after this chastening experience of just how effective he can be, although Olise would be more drawn to their neighbours, City.”
Earlier this year, it was reported that the two Manchester clubs have an interest in signing the Frenchman from Palace this summer.
Since joining the South London club back in the 2021 summer transfer window, the winger has made 88 appearances in all competitions.
Across those 88 games, Olise has scored 15 goals and delivered 23 assists.
His latest game for the Eagles saw the 22-year-old score two goals in Palace’s 4-0 win over United at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
Would Michael Olise be a good signing for Man City?
Bearing in mind how City are on the hunt to win a fourth Premier League title in a row this season after winning the Treble last term, it comes as no surprise to us that Olise would prefer a move to the Etihad Stadium rather than Old Trafford.
Moving forward, if the Blues feel that Olise, who Eberechi Eze described as an “incredible” player after his recent performance against Erik ten Hag’s side, would be a suitable addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad and feel that his release clause is worth paying, this is definitely a move we feel they should make.

20-year-old joining Man City this summer labelled “special” by current manager

Man City will welcome Savio to the Etihad Stadium this summer and Girona boss Michel has stated that the winger is “the best player I’ve ever had”.
It was confirmed in February that the 20-year-old will be joining Man City from French club Troyes ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, once his loan deal with Girona expires at the end of the season. All these clubs are part of the City Football Group so the final destination for the Brazilian was always going to be the Premier League side.
The signing is a very exciting one for Man City going off the displays the winger has shown in Spain this season. Savio has scored 10 goals and assisted a further nine across 37 games for Girona, who found themselves in an unexpected title race for most of the campaign.
Speaking about the 20-year-old, Girona boss Michel has stated that the Brazil star is the “best player I’ve ever had”.
“When I saw Sávio in the first training session I said: we’re gonna play in Europe next season, he’s special. He’s the best player I’ve ever had,” the Spanish coach has said via Fabrizio Romano.

What will Savio bring to Man City?
Savio will unlikely make an instant impact at Man City due to his age and will certainly be eased into the Premier League by Pep Guardiola.
The Brazilian has mostly featured on the left wing for Girona this season and at the Etihad, he will compete with Jack Grealish and Jérémy Doku for that role. The 20-year-old can also play on the right so that versatility will be very useful for Guardiola.
Savio is a proper winger and will bring pace and creativity to City when he arrives. The Girona star does a lot of things well but under Guardiola’s watch the youngster could go to another level.

NEWSManchester City midfielder sustains potentially season-ending injury – Details revealed in separate reportPublished: 19:30 on May 6th 2024 | Last Updated: 12:32 on May 6th 2024By Freddie Pye
SHARETWEET
The ongoing season for Kalvin Phillips looks to have ended prior to the final day of the season, with a new report revealing an injury sustained by the England international.
The 28-year-old has endured a second successive problematic season in top-level football, with his first season issues at Manchester City largely seeing heavily restricted game-time for the midfielder as he struggled to acclimatise to Pep Guardiola’s system.
Many believed that the second season could be different for the former Leeds United man, with supporters often understanding that it takes many players once campaign to gauge a stronger understanding of what is required of them in a Pep Guardiola side.
However, having endured similar struggles during the first-half of the ongoing season, and a European Championship campaign with England on the horizon, a decision was made to sanction a loan move for Phillips at West Ham.
Unfortunately for the defensive midfielder, individual errors, restricted game-time, and now an injury has created even further problems for Kalvin Phillips, who is very likely to be sold by Manchester City during the upcoming summer transfer window.
As first reported by The Athletic’s Dan Sheldon and Sam Lee, Phillips’ season at West Ham looks set to be over after picking up an injury, with the midfielder possibly set for an early return to City for treatment on the problem.
The report details that it is yet to be decided where Kalvin Phillips will undergo his rehabilitation, with both West Ham and Manchester City’s medical departments currently in discussions.
While the problem was first understood to be unknown, a subsequent report from The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath revealed that the on-loan Manchester City man had sustained a calf problem.
It remains unknown whether Manchester City will look to recruit a direct replacement for Kalvin Phillips during the upcoming summer transfer window, however there is a clear intention to sign talent in the central areas.
The wider belief is that there is significant interest from within the Etihad Stadium in both Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta – with both players knowing eachother well from their time together at Olympique Lyonnais.
Manchester City are also believed to be drawing together contingency plans concerning the longer-term future of Kevin De Bruyne, with the 32-year-old attracting growing attention and interest from the Saudi Arabian game amid his contractual situation at the club.

Is it EVER acceptable to wear pyjamas on a flight? No, it’s slobbish says AMANDA PLATELL. Yes, they’re stylish says ALEXANDRA SHULMAN…

Should we celebrate Erling Haaland for wearing pyjamas on a private jet?
Writers Amanda Platell and Alexandra Shulman weigh in on the debate
READ MORE: Traveller argues why you should ALWAYS wear Crocs on a flight
Money doesn’t come into it. Actually, it does, obviously, starting with the private jet, the flashy wristwatch, the designer sunglasses. And that’s before we get to the pyjamas.
But the question is whether it’s acceptable to wander through an airport in PJs. Is Erling Haaland, the Manchester City footballer, guilty of dragging us down a slippery slope in travel attire? Or should we celebrate his verve, his self-confidence, his fashion sense? Here are two contrasting views…
No, it’s slobbish, says Amanda Platell
He may earn almost £900,000 a week but turning up for a flight wearing £1,000 Dolce & Gabbana pyjamas shows that Erling Haaland has no class, even when he’s on a private jet to Monaco.
What’s more, he echoes a troubling trend whereby travellers increasingly appear at the airport looking like they’ve just fallen out of bed.

On a recent trip to Ibiza I couldn’t believe the state of my fellow passengers who had pitched up for the 6am flight. Yes, we all had to set our alarms for pre-dawn but, surely, out of sheer self-respect there’s time for a shower and a quick change into a clean outfit to travel in.
Why do people think it’s acceptable to look like an unwashed slob when those who are employed to check our tickets, serve us in duty free, prepare our full English breakfast and look after us on the plane are all dressed in their uniforms, neat as a pin.
It’s disrespectful to them and to yourself. Even for me, having travelled from here to Australia and back for 40 years on 20-hour flights, I wouldn’t dream of turning up in PJs, even if they were gold-encrusted.
I’m not saying we should go back to BOAC days when passengers dressed as if they were going to a smart dinner party (although that would be nice) but what’s wrong with a pair of Sweaty Betties and a loose top?
As it happens, as an experienced traveller on long and short haul flights, my preferred attire is a smart loose coat, scarf, jeans and a T-shirt, something I also feel comfortable in when turning up after the flight at a decent hotel.
Wearing PJs on planes is just naff.
Yes, they’re stylish, says Alexandra Shulman
Not long ago, I was advised by a travel PR that the first rule when it came to wangling upgrades was not to wear denim. I wonder if they’ve come on board with the news that pyjamas are now acceptable.
Or they are, if they’re the right kind of pyjamas because not all pyjamas are created equal. Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s platinum blond striker, definitely has a catwalk-worthy collection, including several pairs by the Italian design duo Dolce & Gabbana who led the movement in anytime, anyplace, anywhere pyjamas.
But he’s not alone in indulging in the appeal of this look. It’s no longer difficult for the rest of us to pull it off, meaning you can travel in the same sartorial comfort, even in seat 23D rather than the cream leather cocoon of the other kind of PJ (private jet). Pyjamas have appeared on the red carpet these days so there’s no reason to avoid them for travelling, but they must have a certain elan. They have, in other words, to be worn with confidence rather than as if the wearer forgot to set the alarm in time for check-in.

So pristine and crease-free colour or a bold print is the way to go. And they should not, under any circumstances, be that kind of pull-on jersey and sweatshirt style. Nor, heaven forbid, feature any kind of cartoon character.
Thought of as the modern two-piece they are simply a great plus when it comes to travelling in comfort.
So much better than being trussed up in a tight pair of trousers, leggings which are always a zero-style zone or shorts (particularly on men) which I find far more slobby than PJs.
Accessorised with styled hair (as Erling does), a pair of shades and some smart carry-on luggage, pyjamas are definitely a serious option for travel.
But when it comes to footwear, fluffy slippers are still very much a no-go area.
Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland laughed off Roy Keane’s criticism of his play and said he pays little notice to what ‘that man’ has to say.
Former United great Keane has an ugly history with the Haalands, having effectively ended the career of Alfie Haaland – Erling’s dad – when he was City captain in 2003 with an horrific challenge that he later admitted was pre-meditated to cause harm. Despite being one of the more positive voices around City in the media, Keane made headlines recently when he compared Haaland’s build-up play to that of a League Two player.
