Roy Keane has not held back on his current thoughts surrounding Manchester United ahead of Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and Liverpool in the next seven days.

Erik ten Hag’s side thought they had grabbed a dramatic late winner against Brentford through Mason Mount only for Kristoffer Ajer to equalise deep into added time. The Bees thoroughly dominated the clash with a staggering 31 shots taken which saw United concede an xG of 3.29.

The point saw them lose ground in the race for Champions League spots with Tottenham now eight points above and Aston Villa 11 clear after their respective wins over Luton Town and Wolves. With that in mind, Keane has launched a scathing attack on his former club for their weekend performance along with his early thoughts ahead of welcoming Liverpool to Old Trafford next Sunday.

“You don’t know what United team is going to turn up,” he admitted on Sky Sports. “We’ve seen it over the last few weeks. They were let of the hook by Liverpool in that game but United got the job done. We saw them last night [against Brentford] where they were rubbish – absolute rubbish!

“They got a draw and they probably should have won but they were hanging on at the end but with this Man United team, we’re having the same conversations, you just don’t know who’s going to turn up.

“The point I’ve been making for the last few weeks is that every team who plays against Man United find it easy to open them up and get chances. If they give Liverpool the amount of chances they gave them in the cup game, they will be well beaten.”

Before Liverpool visit Old Trafford for the second time in four weeks, Ten Hag and his players head south to Stamford Bridge for a clash against Chelsea. The Blues also dropped points over the weekend with ten-man Burnley securing an unlikely point that meant sack pressure on Mauricio Pochettino increased.

In the reverse fixture, United got the victory having dominated the game and they will be hoping to do the double over Chelsea to gain some momentum before taking on Liverpool.

Roy Keane names the Liverpool player who ‘hugely impressed’ him against Brighton.

UK
Liverpool ended up beating Brighton and Hove Albion today and even Roy Keane admitted to being seriously impressed by one player.

The Reds came from behind to snatch all three points as goals from Luis Diaz and then Mo Salah ensured a big win for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

With Arsenal and Manchester City only managing a draw in the evening kick off, it means Liverpool now sit top of the table as the title race gets even tighter.

Of course, for Liverpool, it was all about some of their top players stepping up to the plate in the end.

Mo Salah got his usual goal despite Ian Wright suggesting he was a bit off colour. While in midfield, the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai impressed again.

Roy Keane seriously impressed by £35m Liverpool player
It’s not every day you get a compliment off of Roy Keane! Even more so if you are a Liverpool player.

However, Keane put his allegiances to one side today in the Sky Sports studio to admit he’d been super impressed by one of Liverpool’s midfielders.

That midfielder was Alexis Mac Allister, who got the assist for Salah’s goal and produced a masterful display overall.

Speaking about Mac Allister after the game, Keane admitted he loved what he saw from the Argentinian.

“Mac Allister is such a smart footballer. I’m hugely impressed with him. Lovely first touch from Mo Salah for the goal. It’s sexy football, that,” Keane said.

Alexis Mac Allister puts on a clinic v Brighton
Mac Allister has grown into his role at Liverpool since signing for an initial £35m in the summer.

As the season has ticked by, his reliability in the middle of the park has been massive for the Reds and he showed his worth with his performance today.

Pundit Jim Beglin lauded Mac Allister as well and it’s little surprise to see him pick up so many plaudits in the game.

For Liverpool now, it’s simply about continuing on and winning. If they win all their games, they will be champions and give Klopp the perfect send off.

As for Mac Allister, well, if you’re getting praise off Roy Keane then you are doing something right.

More of this from Mac Allister and Liverpool, and they might just get over the line.

Edwards Will ‘Prioritise’ Contract Talks With Liverpool Trio
BY
DANNY RUST
PUBLISHED 1 HOUR AGO
Liverpool will be keen to hold discussions over new contracts with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah

HIGHLIGHTS
Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards will be eager to open talks over new contracts with Liverpool trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
Alexander-Arnold is being monitored by La Liga title-chasers Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window opening for business.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth believes that Liverpool will have to consider selling the trio if they cannot reach an agreement over fresh terms.
Liverpool will make negotiating fresh contracts with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah one of their ‘major priorities’, and Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has told GIVEMESPORT that Fenway Sports Group will have to seriously consider cashing in on the Anfield trio if they cannot convince them to sign on the dotted line.

The Reds are preparing to enter a new era as boss Jurgen Klopp is set to walk away from the dugout at the end of the season, due to ‘running out of energy’ over the course of his trophy-laden spell in the hot-seat, but they are keen to hold onto their key men ahead of the summer transfer window opening for business.

Richard Hughes, who has been appointed as Liverpool’s new sporting director and will assume his role after the campaign reaches its climax, will be tasked with leading the Merseyside giants’ recruitment drive and holding talks over new deals after joining Michael Edwards in bagging a crucial internal role.

Real Madrid Will Struggle to Meet Alexander-Arnold Demands

Liverpool would seek close to £100million if Real Madrid up the ante in their pursuit of Alexander-Arnold, according to Goal, but he has shown no indications of wanting to embark on a fresh challenge and the La Liga title-chasers would struggle to stump up the cash needed to strike a deal.

The report suggests that the Reds are desperate to hold onto their academy graduate, who has gone on to make more than 300 appearances since breaking into the senior squad, and he would demand a salary package of more than £275,000-per-week if a move to the Bernabeu becomes a serious prospect.

It is understood that Real Madrid are monitoring Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation after being put on red alert due to Liverpool stopping short of opening discussions over fresh terms, while statistics highlight that he has been producing better figures in various departments than Los Blancos’ Dani Carvajal this season.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GIVEMESPORT that Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk and Salah will be keen to learn Klopp’s successor before committing their long-term futures to Liverpool, but they are not expected to push for an exit when the summer window opens in the coming months.

The trio are preparing to enter the final 12 months of their respective agreements, which allow them to pocket a combined total of £750,000-per-week, and seeing any of them walk away as free agents at the end of the 2024/25 campaign would go down as woeful business after they have made a huge impact at Anfield.

Salah was among the leading Saudi Pro League targets during the early stages of the campaign, which resulted in Liverpool being forced to fend off a £150million bid from Al-Ittihad a matter of hours before the window slammed shut in September, and further offers may be forthcoming.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Mohamed Salah is the third-highest earner in the Premier League, with Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland being the only stars on a more lucrative contract

Dharmesh Sheth – Reds Will Have to Make Decision on Trio With Klopp’s Successor

Sheth understands that Hughes and Edwards, who was recruited as Fenway Sports Group’s chief executive of football earlier this month, will have already pinpointed holding contract discussions with Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk and Salah as one of their key objectives for the upcoming months.

But the Sky Sports reporter believes that Klopp’s replacement will also need to have a say on whether to reward the trio with lucrative fresh terms as, if they do not fit into the new chief’s plans, the Premier League title contenders will have to seriously consider sanctioning their exit.

Sheth told GIVEMESPORT:

“New contract talks will 100% be among Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes’ major priorities over the next few months.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold will enter the final year of his contract come the summer. Captain Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are in the same position.

“They are three huge names who have been completely vital to the success that Jurgen Klopp has had at Liverpool, but they are going to be out of contract within a year.

“When a player reaches the point of having 12 months left on his contract, it’s a case of Liverpool having to sell or renew. But that is all going to depend on the hierarchy at Liverpool and, of course, the new manager. Everyone is going to have to work together to find out which is the best way forward.”

Diaz Wants to Challenge Himself in La Liga

Luis Diaz’s father Mane has admitted that there is hope that he will eventually earn a move to La Liga, according to Spanish sources, having previously wanted to join heavyweights Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid before Liverpool came calling for his signature after impressing in a Porto shirt.

The report suggests that the Colombia international had held discussions with fellow countrymen Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez about what it is like to be on the books of one of the Spanish capital’s most-supported clubs, but the Reds were more eager to secure his services and ended up striking a deal worth up to £49million in January 2022.

GIVEMESPORT sources recently revealed that Liverpool have no intention of selling Diaz during the summer, particularly as fellow wide-man Salah is expected to be the subject of a fresh bid from Saudi Arabia as they aim to take advantage of his precarious contract situation.

The Merseyside giants are in a strong negotiating position ahead of suitors potentially coming to the fore as the 27-year-old still has three years remaining on his £55,000-per-week agreement at Anfield, meaning admirers will only have a chance of luring him away from the Premier League if a significant offer is made.

Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has relived his role in Emmanuel Adebayor’s infamous celebration against Arsenal for Manchester City back in 2009.

The former Togo international spent two-and-a-half years at the Emirates before joining City ahead of the 2009/10 campaign. He came face to face with his old club in the early weeks of his career in Manchester and his emphatic response to scoring in a 4-2 win against the Gunners in September 2009 is widely regarded as one of the most memorable moments in Premier League history.

After scoring against his former employers, Adebayor sprinted the entire length of the field in order to goad the visiting Arsenal fans in the away end with an epic knee slide. He was subsequently booked for his actions by Clattenburg, who took charge of the match.

Clattenburg, who joined Nottingham Forest as a referee consultant earlier this year, has now bizarrely claimed he deserves credit for that moment – because he played advantage during the match.

Man City vs Arsenal team news confirmed as Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta rocked by injuries
“I cautioned Adebayor for inciting that small riot, of course, but it is amusing to think that infamous celebration might never have happened were it not for what I decided to do seconds earlier,” he explained in The Mail.

“Shaun Wright-Phillips had been fouled by Gael Clichy over on the right wing. My assistant had flagged for the foul but I signalled for the advantage to be played. Wright-Phillips got up off the ground, crossed the ball, and Adebayor headed it beyond Manuel Almunia before all hell broke loose.”

Adebayor defended his actions years later and urged Arsenal fans to “forget” his celebration. Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Gunners fan favourite said: “I think the fans can forget what happened in 2009 when I ran the length of the pitch.

“Today I will make it clear, I don’t think any human being would accept it if people were singing about and insulting your family, especially your mother and your father.”

He continued: “It’s behind me now, I hope it is behind them. We all love football. And every once in a while when they see that celebration on television and social media, hopefully now they can laugh it off and move on. That’s what I wish for the Arsenal fans and I wish them the best of luck this year.”

Mohamed Salah celebrates after giving Liverpool a 2-1 lead against Brighton
Jurgen Klopp registered his 300th win in charge of Liverpool with an enthralling 2-1 victory over Roberto de Zerbi’s Brighton to send them temporarily top of the Premier League.

Ahead of Manchester City’s meeting with Arsenal, live on Sky Sports, the Reds had the chance to succeed both fellow title challengers at the summit, but did not enjoy the start they envisaged after falling behind within 87 first-half seconds at Anfield.

Plucky Brighton are deliberately bold in De Zerbi’s mould, as proved by Simon Adingra, who flew down the left wing from kick off and fizzed a ball centrally towards Danny Welbeck. The forward benefitted from a ricochet off Pascal Gross, but there was no luck in the finish, as he lashed an instinctive volley inside the far post.

But Liverpool, embroiled in an intriguing three-way title hunt, were not to be denied. Luis Diaz found a response in the 27th minute to halt Brighton’s early momentum, capitalising on some clumsy Joel Veltman defending to pounce from close range and steer the ball beyond Bart Verbruggen.
