NEWS“I wanted one more year” – Manchester City legend reveals contract renewal controversy despite 14-trophy
Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has revealed disappointment at not being offered a new contract back in 2021.
The Argentinian announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 in December 2021 due to a heart condition, just months after signing for FC Barcelona on a free transfer after departing Manchester City following a 10-year stay.
The former striker is Manchester City’s all-time leading goalscorer with 260 goals, having moved to the Premier League in 2011 from Atletico Madrid for £35 million.
The 35-year-old made 390 appearances during a decade of service at the Etihad Stadium, helping the Sky Blues to 14 trophies, including five Premier League titles.
Aguero’s final match for Manchester City was the agonising UEFA Champions League Final defeat against Chelsea in 2021, with the striker featuring from the bench for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The striker started and ended his Premier League career with a brace, memorably scoring twice during a 5-0 thrashing of Everton on his final appearance at the Etihad Stadium.
Aguero made just eight starts during his final season with Manchester City, and moved to Barcelona after being informed that his contract wouldn’t be extended beyond the summer of 2021.
In a recent interview relayed by the Daily Mail, the 35-year-old revealed his disappointment at not being offered a new deal by Etihad chiefs.
“In January 2021 City told me that they were not going to renew my contract. In February they confirmed it to me,” said Aguero.
“I wanted one more year, I was willing to be on the bench. I had been playing little with Pep (Guardiola), but I wanted to help.”
Manchester City didn’t sign a replacement for Aguero until 2022, beating a number of European clubs to the signature of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for £51 million.
Haaland scored 52 goals in 53 appearances during his maiden season at the Etihad Stadium, smashing the Premier League goalscoring record.

Liverpool give first-team chance to 21-goal striker who grew 10 inches in 8 months
February 15, 2024
Joanna Durkan
The club’s academy is producing one exciting prospect after another, and Jayden Danns is the latest to earn the chance to train with Jurgen Klopp‘s first-team.
Eighteen-year-old Danns has been fast-tracked this season, he first started the campaign with the club’s under-18s before moving up to the U21s side and flourishing.
He has scored 21 goals and notched six assists in a brilliant campaign to date, one that has recently seen him called into first-team training.
It is reward for his efforts having focused on improving his work rate off the ball and his creativity on it.
The versatile forward underwent a significant growth spurt of 10 inches in the space of just eight months at U16 level and it forced him to sit on the sidelines – something we saw with Kaide Gordon.
“In the space of such a short time, I think I went from 5ft 2in to 6ft, I was out for like eight months with Osgood [-Schlatter’s disease] and that was a tough time for me,” Danns explained to the club’s website.
“You’re thinking, ‘Why’s this happening to me?’ Obviously when you get back you start to appreciate it so much. Coming back, I just tried to get the most out of what I can really.”
The teenager is more than making up for lost time, and Klopp has name-checked the youngster on occasion when gushing about the talent at the academy.
At 18, he could be understood for being over-awed by the first-team environment, but Dann’s view on being with the senior side shows a maturity beyond his years.
“When you get up there, you’ve got to keep the standard that they’re keeping,” he said of his time with the first-team.
“It’s all a new level and I really want to work hard to become the players that they are right now.
“My only focus is to put my all into what I’m doing and keep practising and keep doing extras to get where they are.
“My long-term aim is to be the best player I can possibly be. I don’t want to end my career and have any regrets where I could have worked harder. I’d rather just put all the work in and try to get as much as I can from it.
“Step by step, I want to become the player that I envision.”
Danns, who explained he “used to get compared to Firmino” when he was younger, joined the club at under-7 level and is the son of former Premier League midfielder Neil Danns.

LIVERPOOLLiverpool ‘willing to go all out’ to sign Christensenby JitFebruary 15, 2024

Andreas Christensen barcelona
Liverpool are reportedly ‘willing to go all out’ to sign Barcelona star Andreas Christensen in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
It has widely been suggested that the Merseyside club wants to reinforce their backline by signing a new defender this summer. Antonio Silva, Goncalo Inacio and Leny Yoro have all been mentioned as serious targets for the Reds but Christensen is now emerging as a key option.
According to the report by Fichajes, Liverpool are ‘willing to all out’ to sign Christensen and they are ready to spend a fee of around £43m to lure him to Anfield.
The report further claims that Barcelona are currently in a ‘delicate financial situation’ so they could sell some of their stars to raise funds in order to bolster other areas of the squad.
So, Fichajes states that Liverpool would be able to sign the defender should they submit the £43m offer and if they can secure the former Chelsea star’s signature then it will be ‘one of the biggest bombshells’ of the Premier League’s transfer market.
Christensen to Liverpool
After moving to the Catalan giants as a free agent during the summer of 2022, the defender enjoyed a promising campaign in La Liga last term, helping his side win the league title.
The defender previously displayed his qualities in the Premier League during his time at Stamford Bridge, guiding the Blues to the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup glory.
He is a talented and versatile player as he is a centre-back by traits but can also be deployed in the holding midfield position. He is quick, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and also efficient in defensive contributions.
So, the 27-year-old could be a shrewd signing for Liverpool if they purchase him. However, the Dane has struggled with fit issues in recent times and the Merseyside club wouldn’t want to sign a injury prone player.
Therefore, Liverpool would be better off exploring other options to reinforce their backline. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Anfield club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Christensen in the upcoming transfer window.

Liverpool will seek to submit one last offer to sign£32million midfielder – Report
In the ever-evolving landscape of football transfers, Liverpool focuses on a strategic pursuit to fortify their squad’s defensive foundation by setting their sights on the versatile Ivorian midfielder, Ibrahim Sangare.

Defensive Vulnerabilities Exposed
In a thrilling Premier League match at Anfield, Liverpool secured their first victory of the season by outclassing Bournemouth.
While their attacking prowess shone, defensive vulnerabilities resurfaced, emphasizing the need for reinforcement at the back.
To bolster their defensive stability, the Reds are eyeing the acquisition of a defensive midfielder (DM) and a solid defender before the summer transfer window concludes.
Among the potential signings, Ivory Coast international Ibrahim Sangaré has been a subject of interest for Liverpool.
Bavarians vs Reds
Rik Elfrink claimed a tussle between the Reds and Bayern Munich for the player’s signature.
Respected sources confirm that a release clause of £32 million (€37.5 million) exists, which both clubs need to activate for securing Sangare’s services.
Renowned journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that despite previous claims, Bayern Munich seems uninterested in signing the PSV Eindhoven midfield maestro.
Yet, fresh reports from Spain indicate a sudden push from the Bavarians to tempt Sangare into their fold. However, Liverpool remains undeterred and reportedly plans to submit a final offer to swoop in and reinforce their No. 6 position.
Sangare’s contributions this season speak volumes about his potential impact.
With five appearances, one goal, an assist, and two clean sheets, he has played a pivotal role in PSV’s recent successes.
In a recent clash against Vitesse, Sangaré played a full 90 minutes, showcasing his versatility and skill set.
Sangare to Liverpool – A Yes or No?
The question arises: Should Liverpool activate the £32 million release clause for Ibrahim Sangare?
Despite Bayern’s interest, Liverpool’s pursuit remains steadfast. The 25-year-old’s profile as a versatile midfielder with immense strength, power, explosiveness, precise ball control, and a potent long-range shot makes him an ideal candidate for Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
As the transfer window draws to a close, the battle for Sangare’s signature intensifies. The midfielder, who joined PSV in 2020 from Toulouse, boasts an impressive international career with 31 caps for Ivory Coast.
With his well-rounded abilities, Sangare could prove to be the missing piece in Liverpool’s midfield puzzle, adding both defensive stability and attacking flair.
In this high-stakes transfer saga, Liverpool’s pursuit of Sangare presents a strategic opportunity to bolster their squad.
With their eyes set on reinforcing their backline and midfield, the Reds’ determination to secure the Ivorian’s signature underscores their commitment to maintaining their competitive edge in the Premier League.

The 12 players with 200 goal contributions in the Premier League ft Salah, Rooney & Kane
Highlights
Mohamed Salah racked up his 200th goal involvement in the Premier League vs Bournemouth, comprising 140 goals and 60 assists.
Salah has overtaken Steven Gerrard as Liverpool’s highest goalscorer, with 187 goals for the club.
Salah is now the 12th player in history to reach 200 goal contributions in the Premier League.
Mohamed Salah found the net against Bournemouth yesterday afternoon in Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Anfield, and the goal was a landmark one, as it was the 200th goal in the Premier League that the Egyptian has either scored or assisted. It comprises 140 goals and 60 assists.
Salah’s goal also saw him overtake Steven Gerrard in terms of Liverpool’s highest goalscorers, having now reached 187 goals for The Reds to Gerrard’s 186. Salah’s tally for Liverpool sees him stay only behind Ian Rush (336), Roger Hunt (259) Gordon Hodgson (241), and Billy Liddell (228). Salah also has 75 assists for the club.
OPTA stats show that Salah is the first Liverpool player to either score or assist in 10 consecutive Premier League appearances at Anfield. He has also become the first player to do so in 10 straight home appearances in the top flight since Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy in December 2015 (10).
Salah has 138 goals for Liverpool in the Premier League (highest). He is also the club’s highest scorer in the Champions League (42). He has scored five times in the FA Cup, once in the League Cup, and once in the FA Community Shield.
He also came close to another record last weekend against Chelsea. He was looking to become the highest scorer on an opening Premier League weekend, but he was substituted before he was able to achieve this.
He was linked with a move away from Merseyside this summer. He received a two-year contract offer worth £155m from Al-Ittihad. Had Salah accepted the offer, he would have joined his former teammate Fabinho in Jeddah, and Liverpool would have received a £52m transfer fee. However, the agent of Salah, Ramy Abbas Issa, insisted that his client was ‘committed’ to Liverpool. Former Reds striker Robbie Fowler said: “I’ll put in a word for him to stay. I want him to stay at Liverpool. But good players will always get linked here because this country and this Pro League wants good players and that’s the simplicity of it,”
He joins a group of only 11 other players to have achieved the feat of 200 Premier League goal involvements, and he is the first African player to do so, along with being the only active Premier League player on the list. So, without further ado, here are the other 11, but starting with the man in 12th himself, Mohamed Salah.
12 Mohamed Salah – 200 (140 goals and 60 assists)
HBAgency
HBAgency
Salah joined Liverpool in 2017 and scored 32 goals in his first season. This is Salah’s seventh season in a Liverpool shirt, and he will look to break a few records in the ongoing season. He has a few years left and looking at his killer instinct best, there is a chance that the Egyptian will go further up in the table. He has played in 233 Premier League games. The 30-year-old’s incredible feats at the club also include him being the first Liverpool player since Roger Hunt, in 1965/66, to score 20 league goals for a third successive season – he will be eager to make it four in a row. Salah will be hoping to continue his goal scoring exploits at Liverpool to ensure The Reds improve on a disappointing campaign. He is the third Liverpool player on this list, and only two contributions behind the second, trailing….
11 Robbie Fowler – 202 (163 goals and 39 assists)
Fowler is the sixth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history, and scored 128 league goals across two spells with Liverpool, while also plying his trade with Leeds United and Manchester City in between. He has 26 England caps to his name. The man affectionately known to Reds fans as ‘God’ is these days managing in Saudi Arabia with Al Qadsiah FC.
10 Steven Gerrard – 212 (120 goals and 92 assists)
Also managing these days in Saudi Arabia, although one division higher than Fowler, is his former teammate Steven Gerrard. In a Liverpool career spanning from 1998-2015, Gerrard achieved many things both with The Reds and individually, including spearheading both Liverpool’s epic 2005 Champions League final comeback against AC Milan in Istanbul, and scoring a wonder goal in the 2006 FA Cup final against West Ham United. He also became only the third player to reach 500 Premier League appearances, behind just Ryan Giggs and Jamie Carragher.
9 Teddy Sheringham 221 (146 goals and 75 assists)
Over a 24-year professional career, including spells at Millwall, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United, Sheringham is the oldest outfield player to appear in a Premier League match (40 years and 272 days), and also the oldest Premier League goalscorer (40 years and 268 days). He was also the highest goalscorer in the first ever Premier League season (1992-93, 22 goals). Not only that, he is also a member of the Tottenham Hall Of Fame. His son Charlie currently plays for Dartford of the National League South. He’ll do well if his career is half as successful as his old man’s!
8 Sergio Aguero – 231 (184 goals and 47 assists)
The Argentine is Manchester City’s all-time record goalscorer, and also has 12 Premier League hat-tricks, more than any other player. At City, he won five Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and six League Cup titles. He is also responsible for one of the most iconic moments in Premier League history with his last-second goal against QPR in 2012, which secured the title for City and led to the Martin Tyler commentary: “Manchester City are still alive here. Balotelli. Agueroooo! I swear you’ll never see anything like this ever again. So watch it, drink it in. They’ve just heard the news at The Stadium of Light. Two goals in added time for Manchester City to snatch the title away from Manchester United.”
7 Thierry Henry – 249 (175 goals and 74 assists)
The mercurial Frenchman is Arsenal’s record goalscorer and a member of their famous 2003-04 ‘Invincibles’ who went the entire Premier League season undefeated. A four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, who also went on to win the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championships in 2000, these days Henry has shifted his focus to broadcasting, working as a pundit for CBS Sports.
6 Harry Kane – 259 (213 goals and 46 assists)
Kane’s recent departure from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich means Salah is now the only active Premier League player on this list. Highest scorer for both Spurs and England, Kane will be hoping to add some trophies to his individual honours, something that somehow kept eluding him in north London.
5 Andrew Cole – 260 (187 goals and 53 assists)
A prolific scorer for both Newcastle United and Manchester United, Cole was a member of The Red Devils’ treble-winning squad in 1999. Before Erling Haaland smashed his way to it last season, Cole held the record for most Premier League goals in a single 42-game season (with 34 goals).
Cole has the distinction of being one of the few players in England to have swept all possible honours in the English game, including the PFA Young Player of the Year award, as well as the Champions League title. Cole was also capped 15 times for England between 1995 and 2001.
4 Ryan Giggs – 271 (109 goals and 162 assists)
The only player on this list with more assists than goals, Giggs was the definition of a one-club man, staying with Manchester United throughout his entire professional career. One of the members of United’s vaunted ‘Class of 92’, Giggs has more Premier League winners medals than anyone else, an astonishing 13. Only United, as a club, and Liverpool have more Premier League titles than the Welsh wing wizard. He is also one of only 28 players with over 1,000 career appearances, although recent years have seen him encounter personal problems.
3 Frank Lampard – 279 (177 goals and 102 assists)
The England legend holds the record for most Premier League goals by a midfielder, and Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer. He has also achieved over 100 caps for his country, as a member of England’s ‘Golden Generation’ in the mid-2000s. Lampard was awarded an OBE in 2015 for services to football, and is in the Premier League Hall of Fame.
2 Wayne Rooney 311 (208 goals and 103 assists)
Manchester United’s record scorer, who also held the England scoring record before being overtaken by Kane. Rooney came to prominence in 2002 when, as a fresh-faced 16-year-old, he found the net from outside the box against Arsenal for Everton, two years before he found his way to Old Trafford. He is another one who has a brother plying their trade in the game: John, currently at Oldham Athletic.
1 Alan Shearer – 324 (260 goals and 64 assists)
During the early-to-mid 1990s, there was nobody in English football more lethal in front of goal than Shearer. For both Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, Shearer ruthlessly tormented opposition defenders. These days, he is a respected pundit who regularly appears on Match of the Day, swapping opinions with regular host Gary Lineker and fellow pundit Micah Richards.

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold ruled out of Carabao Cup final; Dominik Szoboszlai doubt as well
adminBY ADMINFEBRUARY 15, 2024NO COMMENTS3 MINS READ
HBAgency
The latest injuries to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai have definitely clouded Liverpool’s future schedule, especially the crucial Premier League matchup with Manchester City and the League Cup final matchup against Chelsea. In order to offset the loss of two important players, Jurgen Klopp must restructure his team and come up with tactical alternatives. This will be a difficult challenge to complete.
The severity of Trent’s injury during Liverpool’s Premier League match against Burnley deals a serious blow to the team’s attacking potential and defensive steadiness.
TAA has had difficulty getting back to full fitness since he suffered the knee injury in January, and his playing time has been limited in the games he has since made. Concerns on the duration of his absence have been raised by the decision to withdraw him against Burnley at halftime, which highlights the seriousness of the problem. Although Klopp has not given a timeframe for his comeback, he will need to closely monitor his recuperation to guarantee a full recovery and avoid running the danger of more setbacks.
Injuries-Galore
Dominik Szoboszlai’s possible unavailability adds to Liverpool’s creative problems. Since joining the team, Szoboszlai has shown off his skill and vision in the midfield, which gives Liverpool’s attacking play a new angle. His absence would deny Klopp’s team another potent midfield option, which would limit their ability to penetrate opponent defenses and dictate the pace.
The injuries to Trent and Szobo have come at the worst possible time as Liverpool prepares to go into a pivotal part of the season where every win and point counts toward winning a championship. To get through this difficult time, Klopp will need to rely on the depth of his team and the adaptability of his players. Important games coming up include the League Cup final and the Premier League matchup with Manchester City.
With Szoboszlai and Alexander-Arnold out of the picture, Klopp might have to look elsewhere in the team to cover for their absences. This could entail moving players from their optimal positions or modifying the tactical arrangement to best utilize the skills of the people on hand. One of the best examples of such is Curtis Jones, who played as a right-back till the end against Burnley.
In the end, Klopp’s ability to lead his team and his tactical sense will be tested as he gets through this difficult time. Despite the absence of key players, Klopp will need to motivate his team to rise to the occasion and put on performances deserving of victory with the League Cup final and important Premier League matches approaching.
