According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Liverpool like the look of Antonio Nusa, who is currently the subject of heavy interest and a £25m bid from Brentford [Standard]. However, while the Reds admire Nusa, the report states that Liverpool cannot move until there is ‘clarity’ over a new manager and sporting director.

It’s disappointing to see Liverpool potentially missing out on a really exciting young talent in Nusa. He is someone who has been in great form this season, and looks like he could be a bargain at £25m.

Missing out on him is a reminder that Liverpool have to sort the future of the club out as quickly as possible. Of course, to some extent, FSG should take their time in order to find the best successor. However, there needs to be some urgency as well to make sure Liverpool avoid more situations like this.

That’s a huge fee, especially considering it would be more than Virgil van Dijk cost Liverpool. Although times are changing and the market has fluctuated a lot, we just can’t see Liverpool paying that kind of figure.

No matter how talented Yoro is. There are better options, equally as exciting, in the market, who would cost potentially half or a significantly smaller figure. And Liverpool will probably go for those options instead as the club has always done. The Reds prefer to operate frugally and make smart acquisitions rather than to spend frivolously on a player who has only played one full season in senior football.

Jurgen Klopp’s announcement on Friday has hit everybody hard. The news came completely out of the blue. No one had seen it coming. Not even his own players.

As revealed yesterday by Andy Robertson, even he and his teammates were surprised. Which just goes to show just how much of a professional Klopp is. Even though he made up his mind in November, he never gave anything away.

But it’s not just Klopp’s current players who have been surprised by the Liverpool boss’ decision to leave the club. There was a former Liverpool star who left the club in the summer, who revealed he was quite emotional after hearing the news.

That player was of course, Naby Keita. The Guinean international may not have always had a great time at Anfield. But it feels like he did build a special connection with Klopp based on his comments. Speaking to RMC Sport, he revealed he actually got quite emotional when he learned Klopp would leave the club.

“When I heard the news, I had tears in my eyes. I was like his son in Liverpool and I consider him my dad,” Keita said.

It’s a little bit surprising to hear Keita speaking so affectionately about Klopp. During his last few seasons we got the impression that relations may have deteriorated between the two. But it’s obvious that was never the case.

Despite all the struggles Keita had to endure, it seems he always remained on great terms with Klopp. Yet another demonstration of the Liverpool boss’ exceptional man management skills.

It feels too early to be talking about it already. But Liverpool have to prepare sooner rather than later for what is now the inevitable at the end of the season. Replacing Jurgen Klopp will be an impossible task. It’s one though that has to be done. No matter how odd it will be to see someone new in the dugout next season.

Already there are a few candidates and names whirling about in the media. Clearly, the likes of Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi, are the ones that Liverpool are looking at the most. Although, there will be other candidates going under the radar or not yet named as well.

Who the favourite is at this stage is difficult to tell. Although The Athletic’s James Pearce seems to think there is a front-runner in the race.

Speaking on The Athletic’s Daily Briefing podcast, Pearce was asked about the potential candidates who could replace Jurgen Klopp, and he revealed Xabi Alonso was the favourite for the position.

“Well, Xabi Alonso is clearly the frontrunner currently. I think when you look at what he’s done at Bayer Leverkusen, his work there commands respect and also of course there’s that emotional bond with Liverpool from his playing days, he was absolutely adored as a player.

“And I think he would certainly be a popular choice certainly amongst Liverpool fans I’ve spoken to since the news of Klopp’s impending exit landed on Friday.

“I think [Roberto] De Zerbi at Brighton will be another one who comes under consideration. When you look at the brand of football and the job he’s done on the south coast.
