Liverpool FC has reached an agreement for the transfer of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion on a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old has successfully completed a medical and agreed personal terms to become the Reds’ first signing of the summer window.

Mac Allister will arrive at Anfield less than six months on from helping Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar last December, capping a highly impressive season with Brighton.

The midfielder told Liverpoolfc.com: “It feels amazing. It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started.

“I wanted to be in [from] the first day of pre-season, so it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates.

“It was a fantastic year for me – World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton – but now it’s time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.”

Mac Allister’s move to Anfield comes after three-and-a-half successful seasons at Brighton following a January 2019 switch from Argentinos Juniors, where he immediately returned on loan for six months until a further temporary stint with Boca Juniors.

His Premier League debut came in March 2020 and he went on to make a total of 112 appearances for the south-coast club, 98 of which came in the Premier League. Indeed, he faced Liverpool as an opponent on six occasions.

In addition, Mac Allister netted 20 times overall for Brighton and claimed nine assists.

‌
At international level he has 16 caps for Argentina, with one strike to his name to date – the opener in a 2-0 win over Poland in Group C of their successful World Cup campaign.

He made six starts at the tournament and laid on a goal for Angel Di Maria in La Albiceleste’s thrilling final triumph over France.

Mac Allister will become the seventh Argentinian to represent Liverpool.

He added: “Since I won the World Cup, I said that I want to win more trophies and I think that this club will help me to do that – that’s the aim and when you are in a big club like this one you have to win trophies. So, that’s what I want.

“Since I arrived here, I can see how big this club is – the players we have, the staff, everyone. I’m really pleased and looking forward to playing for this club.”

Despite Manchester United’s interest, Jurgen Klopp has already met with Sofyan Amrabat’s agent as Liverpool ramps up their pursuit of the Fiorentina midfielder.

Sofyan Amrabat is a transfer target for Liverpool, and manager Jurgen Klopp has already spoken with the midfielder’s agent this year.

Amrabat, a Moroccan international, is a target for Manchester United as well, and the club is banking on the influence of Erik ten Hag’s friendship with the player. Amrabat was previously tutored by the United manager while they were teammates at FC Utrecht in the Netherlands.

The United manager has shown the player a great deal of virtue, praising his tenacity and determination to put the team before himself, traits he views in the highest regard. However, Liverpool is interested in the youngster since they need to find a successor for Fabinho, who will probably depart Anfield.

The holding midfielder is rumored to be open to leaving the Italian club, and the Reds have already been credited with an interest in him. West Ham defeated Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final last year, but the Italian team was unable to advance to the European football competition.

Serie A superstar ‘open’ to move to Liverpool

According to reports from Italy, Juventus star Federico Chiesa is open to a move to Premier League giants Liverpool.
The 25-year-old made just 21 appearances in the series last year, including only six since the start. This was partly due to seven separate injury issues, but his playing time was largely limited by Massimiliano Allegri’s preferred system.

Moreover, Chiesa reportedly had a strained relationship with Juve manager Allegri which led to him looking for a summer move.

As FootballTransfers exclusively revealed in early July, Juventus are offering Chiesa to a number of top clubs to boost their funds.

Sources have told FootballTransfers that the striker is on the hunt for a Premier League club as he is doubtful in Turin, but the money his current club are asking for – around €60m – will make that problematic.

However, according to the Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool have rekindled their interest in Chiesa, after being linked to the Italian in 2021. Furthermore, the Euro 2020 star would be open to a move to Anfield if the Reds make a move.

Colwill may end up havinghis head turned given the interest from teams like Liverpool, but as of yet, there hasn’t been any indication that the player actually wants to leave.
