Liverpool have decisively moved to sign £174million star
Liverpool are after Victor Osimhen, who has not been able to agree a new deal with Italian champions, Napoli, as yet.
According to Calcio Mercato, the Nigerian international earns around 4.5 million euros per season and is looking for a new contract that will double the salary to 9 million euros per season.
News – £96million star would be ready to agree Liverpool move – Pundit
Osimhen was the leading goal scorer in the Serie A as the Naples based side ended more than three decade long title drought last season.
He surely deserves a bumper pay rise but CM claim the difference between what he wants and the club is prepared to offer is a big one.
On the other hand, Napoli president, Aurelio de Laurentiis wants a release clause of £174million (200 million euros) in the new deal.
The 24-year-old netted 31 goals in all competitions in the last campaign. At the moment, he is out with a hamstring injury and has missed the last four games.
The media outlet have mentioned that Liverpool have decisively moved with multiple direct contacts to sign Osimhen, who is also on the radar of Chelsea.
The question is, do the Merseysiders need to secure his signing?
Yesterday, Jurgen Klopp’s front three Jota, Salah and Nunez were all on the scoresheet as the Reds defeated Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
On the other hand, Dutch international, Cody Gakpo came on from the bench to find the net only to see his strike ruled out for offside. Luis Diaz, who has been in brilliant form, was unavailable.
So, in all honesty, Liverpool really do not need to improve their attack at the moment, especially the CF/False No.9 position.
Instead, after improving the midfield in the summer, the Anfield club must focus on strengthening the backline. What do you think?
Read Next:Klopp could now have Liverpool’s new Coutinho in £120k-p/w “magician” This starring Anfield signing has been sensational since arriving.
Liverpool have made an excellent start to the 2023/24 Premier League season after falling by the wayside last year, now restored and focused on continuing the illustrious success under Jurgen Klopp’s management.
HBAgency
The Reds finished fifth last season to sever a seven-year streak in the Champions League – reaching three finals and winning one – leading many to believe that Klopp’s ship had run its course and the end was nigh, but a resounding summer of transfer business has rekindled the fire at Anfield’s core.
They currently trail table-toppers Tottenham Hotspur by three points after ten matches played, but at this early stage performance and application is of a greater weight than the standings.
One of the most important jobs of the summer was rebuilding a midfield that had run its course and was no longer fit for purpose, rusty and beyond repair.
The legs had gone, and quite simply the players at Klopp’s disposal could not perform to the requisite standard and intensity to turbo-charge his system.
Arriving were newer, shinier stars looking to impress and contribute to the resurgence on Merseyside, and so far the performances on the pitch have verified the decisions made across the summer months.
Alexis Mac Allister has been the metronomic heartbeat in the deep-lying midfield, not quite enrapturing the Liverpool support yet but performing admirably in a less-favoured No. 6 placement.
Ryan Gravenberch looks like a real prospect and has started to edge his way up the pecking order after struggling with Bayern Munich last year in the Bundesliga;
Wataru Endo too has so far proved to be the astute buy required, and while he doesn’t start every game, his presence in the squad has been important, notably scoring in Europe last week.
None, however, have surpassed the brilliance of Dominik Szoboszlai in the centre of the park, with perhaps Mohamed Salah’s ridiculous efforts in the final third topping the effect of the “Hungarian artist” – as he has been hailed by talent scout Jacek Kulig for his stunning start to the life on English shores.
Szoboszlai’s season in numbers
Reporter Neil Jones described Szoboszlai as Klopp’s “dream signing”, and it’s hard to dispute that he is a tailor-made addition to a team so reliant on energy and enthusiasm in offensive transition.
But he’s not just an attacking outlet, Szoboszlai’s all-action midfield game has been crucial to the Reds’ budding renaissance, having completed 88% of his passes in the Premier League this term, as per Sofascore, while also averaging 2.5 key passes, 1.4 tackles and 7.6 ball recoveries per game.
Signing from RB Leipzig in the summer after his £60m release clause was met, Szoboszlai’s quality was discernible for all but the way he has cemented an unwavering starting berth in Klopp’s side has been extraordinary; it may well be the most resounding start to life at Liverpool since Virgil van Dijk transformed the rearguard upon his £75m transfer from Southampton.

Liverpool showed their support to Luis Diaz during a comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Sunday, 29 October.
Goals from Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez before the break and Mohamed Salah’s second-half effort helped Jurgen Klopp’s side maintain their 100 per cent home record in the Premier League this season.
Jota held aloft Diaz’s number seven shirt after scoring, with the Colombian not featuring in Liverpool’s squad following reports his parents had been kidnapped in his homeland.
Head coach Jurgen Klopp said preparation for Sunday’s win against had been “the most difficult I’ve ever had in my life”.
Liverpool confirmed an “ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz” earlier on Sunday and Colombia’s president said Diaz’s mother “has been rescued” but his father remains missing.
Klopp said: “The game preparation was the most difficult I’ve ever had in my life. I didn’t expect that, I wasn’t prepared for it.
“I don’t want to make the game bigger than it was, but definitely, we tried to help Luis with the fight we put in because obviously we want to help and we cannot really help.
“So the only thing we can do is fight for him and that’s what the boys did.”

Liverpool secured their fifth straight home Premier League win to move three points behind leaders Tottenham.
But Klopp said: “How can you make a football game really important on a day like this? It’s really difficult. I’ve never struggled with that in my life.
“We heard late last night about it. We spoke to Luis, he wanted to go home…Then we got the news with his mum, which is fantastic, and since then nothing really.
“We are obviously the first people to get involved and we try to have knowledge of everything as much as we can, but we don’t want to disturb in any way the important people there, we just want to support, that’s it.”

Liverpool said in a statement that they were supporting the player. It read: “Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia.
“It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.”
Colombia’s president Gustavo Petro said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “In an operation in Barrancas, Luis Diaz’s mother has been rescued, we continue the search for the father.”
The country’s football federation said in a statement that the kidnapping was regrettable and urged authorities to rescue Diaz’s father.
“The Colombian Football Federation rejects the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Diaz are going through,” they said.
“From the FCF we express our solidarity with him and his entire family and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation.”
Liverpool signed Diaz from Porto in January 2022 in an initial £37.5million deal that included a potential extra £12.5million in add-ons.
The 26-year-old winger has made 11 appearances this season and scored three goals.

The Colombia women’s national team showed their support for Luis Diaz with a classy gesture ahead of their clash with the United States.
Nelson Abadía’s side were beaten 3-0 by the four-time world champions in a friendly at the Snapdragon Stadium in California on Sunday evening. However, there was a poignant moment ahead of kick-off as the Colombian players held up Diaz’ shirt during the national anthem.
The parents of the Liverpool forward were kidnapped on Saturday evening in the Los Olivos neighbourhood of Barrancas, in Guajira. His mother, Cilenis Marulanda, has been found safe however the whereabouts of his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, are still unknown.

The gesture from the Colombian team came hours after Diogo Jota had shown his support for his Liverpool teammate during the Reds’ 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Diaz was not part of the squad to face Steve Cooper’s side however Jota held aloft the the forward’s no. 7 shirt after opening the scoring at Anfield.
Goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah made sure of the three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side but the Liverpool boss admitted Diaz and his family had been at the forefront of his team’s minds throughout.
“How can you make a football game really important on a day like this? It’s really difficult,” Klopp said. “I never struggled with that in my life. It was always my safe place, sometimes my hiding point as a player or as a coach. You are allowed, during these 90-odd minutes, to focus just on that.

“And it was impossible, absolutely impossible to do that. So it was clear we had to give the game an extra sense and it was fighting for Lucho. Then the boys pulled out the shirt and I was not 100% prepared for that to be honest. It was really touching, but wonderful as well.”
There has been a global outpouring of support for Diaz over the past few days, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino insisting the whole of world football is behind the Colombian and his family. The wife of Liverpool’s principal owner John W Henry, Linda Pizzuti also offered her message of support, posting: “We are all sending love to Luis Diaz as he is with his family to help recover his kidnapped dad.”

Dominik Szoboszlai outlined his ambitions for Liverpool this season after the Reds’ 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
Goals from Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah gave Jürgen Klopp’s men victory on Sunday afternoon, bringing up their eighth consecutive home success in all competitions in 2023-24.
Afterwards, Szoboszlai, whose two assists helped earn him the Carlsberg Player of the Match award, reflected on a hard-fought three points – and suggested there is more to come from the team going forward.
“Everybody tries to beat us, but we are ready for this,” the No.8 told Liverpoolfc.com. “We are ready for [the challenge of] every team. As a group, we can do a lot this season.
“How we started, we just have to continue like this. We just have to work, work, work, as much as we can, and at the end it will pay off.”
On the defeat of Forest, the midfielder added: “I think we deserved to win, we did a great game. Everybody did their job and we took the three points.”

Salah played a key role in all three Liverpool goals on the day, including finishing off the third himself after Szoboszlai’s long pass landed his way.
Szoboszlai said of the Egyptian: “He’s always dangerous, even if it’s a penalty, a counter-attack, if he is assisting or he is scoring. He’s really important for us.”
And of the pleasure he takes from linking up with the prolific forwards within the squad, he noted: “I can only say that they are all great players, fantastic guys. Sometimes they do really good, sometimes ‘just’ good, but never bad! It’s an easy job for us.”
The Reds were without Luis Diaz for the match amid an ongoing family situation for the Colombian in his home country.
Following Jota’s opening goal of the encounter, the scorer headed to the touchline to raise a home shirt bearing Diaz’s name as a gesture of support.
“Everyone had this in their head during the game. We did it for Lucho,” said Szoboszlai.
“To be honest, I heard [about] it in the morning and he was already gone. We had a meeting about this and everybody knew what we had to do for him.
“We are a team. We have to fight for each other. Today, we did it for Lucho.”
