Sergio Gomez could not hide his disappointment on Instagram after losing the U21s Euro final with Spain.

The Manchester City full-back ended up on the losing side, as James Trafford, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle and Cole Palmer all triumphed with England.

It was a close contest in Georgia.

But the deadlock was broken just before half-time, with Palmer’s free-kick deflecting off Curtis Jones and finding the back of the net.

England ended up winning, but not before Trafford came in clutch with a huge penalty save right at the death.

Levi Colwill’s challenge had given Spain the chance to equalise.

But Trafford guessed when Abel Ruiz was going to go, getting down low to his right.

Trafford then saved a follow-up effort.

So euphoria for City’s England boys, but despair for Gomez.

And the star’s post really does paint a picture of how he has been feeling.

Gomez actually had a pretty good tournament for Spain.

He played as a winger, and him playing high up the pitch allowed him to score three goals.

That saw him finish as the tournament’s top scorer.

But there is no doubt he would trade that personal accolade for the trophy won by City’s English quartet.

Taking to Instagram, Gomez said: “Not the ending we wanted and deserved. Today pain overshadows what we have accomplished. But tomorrow we will treasure the road travelled and all the work we did to get here.

“It’s been an unforgettable month being part of a group of incredible players and an unbeatable staff. Special mention to the Generation of 2000. I love you very much and it is an honor to have been able to share with all of you the successes harvested. Just like having defended the @sefutebol. No doubt that we will continue to fight to do it many more times!”

Fans in their droves sent messages of support to the gutted Gomez.

And there was also a message from a City transfer target. Gabri Veiga, another member of Spain’s U21 squad, wrote ‘crack’, a slang term for a player with high skill/ability.

And there was also a message from a City transfer target. Gabri Veiga, another member of Spain’s U21 squad, wrote ‘crack’, a slang term for a player with high skill/ability.

It was reported that City showed interest in Veiga after missing out on Declan Rice. The midfielder has a £34 million release clause.

Gomez must use Spain pain as fuel
Gomez is probably still hurting from the defeat to England.

But the best thing he can do now is use that pain as fuel to move forwards.

He had a good tournament overall and caught the eye with his performances playing further forwards.

It hasn’t happened for him yet at City.

But this is the case for many players that come to the Etihad at first, before they flourish from season two onwards.

There is a player in there. If he just improves defensively then City will have a really handy player on their books.

A claim has been made that Manchester City are definitely set to complete a transfer involving Josko Gvardiol in the summer.

This comes from journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about City’s chances of landing the 21-year-old.

However, he assured that Manchester City have nothing to worry about when it comes to securing the services of Josko Gvardiol.

Journalist: Manchester City will definitely complete Josko Gvardiol transfer
It was reported on Sunday that Pep Guardiola’s men are set to hold a new round of talks with RB Leipzig over a potential move for the Croatian, after an initial £64.2 million offer plus add-ons was rejected.

Branded as a ‘generational talent’ by Football Fan Cast, it was also revealed that the German giants intend to sell the ex-Dinamo Zagreb defender for at least £85.7 million.

Despite the deal for Josko Gvardiol not looking like an easy one to pull off, Dean Jones has assured that Manchester City will eventually get their man.

“It will be a fantastic signing for them. It would change a lot to be honest, because it makes them even stronger in terms of the thinking of this team. It’s not just what he brings physically, it’s what he understands about the game and what he brings in terms of a winning mentality.”

Jones went on to slip in the fact that Manchester City will end up triumphing in their pursuit for Josko Gvardiol, saying, “People constantly talking about this with him in the Croatian set up about just his desire and his focus. And you have to have that now at the level Man City are playing at. So yeah, I definitely think that Gvardiol is a goer.”

Josko Gvardiol would be one hell of a signing
As long as Josko Gvardiol is donning a Manchester City shirt next season, there will be no moans and groans from their fanbase.

While the ideal scenario remains that the youngster joins the squad in pre-season, his arrival is the biggest priority.

Simply due to the fact that first things first, with Aymeric Laporte primed to leave City, he is the perfect profile of defender to replace him, due to his incredible reading of the game, passing range and ball-carrying ability.

Secondly and perhaps more pertinently, with how young Gvardiol is, he could lead the Sky Blues’ defence for the next decade.

Man City: £86m star ‘will be a fantastic signing’ at the Etihad

Dean Jones exclusively told GIVEMESPORT that £86m-rated Bundesliga ace would make Manchester City ‘stronger’

Manchester City securing a deal for RB Leipzig defensive ace Josko Gvardiol would be a ‘fantastic signing’, journalist Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT.

Despite conquering Europe for the first time in their history, the treble-winners are still looking to bolster their squad ahead of the forthcoming season.

Manchester City transfer news – Josko Gvardiol
While the young Croatian attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, Manchester City (perhaps, unsurprisingly) have come out as the clear front-runners in the race for his signature.

The Sun recently reported that the defensive ace has told club officials that he wants to join the rampant City side, which has internally lifted the spirits in the Etihad camp.

90min have now revealed that City are working tirelessly behind the scenes to complete their world-record signing of a defender, which will put them back £86m.

At the back end of last month, Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to let his millions of followers know that personal terms had been ‘100% agreed’, which means the club are closing on a deal.

Guardiola’s outfit were as imperious as they come in the 2022/23 season as they ticked off only the second treble-winning campaign from any English team ever.

But Jones believes that his big-money acquisition will only make them ‘stronger’ thanks to what he brings in terms of a winning mentality.

What did Dean Jones say about Manchester City and Josko Gvardiol?
Jones insisted the signing of the 21-year-old starlet would be ‘fantastic’ considering the physical and, more importantly, mental aspects he will bring to England.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “It will be a fantastic signing for them. It would change a lot to be honest, because it makes them even stronger in terms of the thinking of this team. It’s not just what he brings physically, it’s what he understands about the game and what he brings in terms of a winning mentality.

People constantly talking about this with him in the Croatian set up about just his desire and his focus. And you have to have that now at the level Man City are playing at. So yeah, I definitely think that Gvardiol is a goer.”

Why has Josko Gvardiol attracted so much interest?
To be on City’s summer shopping list, Pep Guardiola must have spotted something special.

And as the Spaniard continues to sprinkle his brilliance on the Premier League, it seems as if Gvardiol fits into his plans, short-term and long-term. But it’s evident to see why.

The 21-cap Croatia international played 41 times for Leipzig last season and even managed to score on three occasions. His side finished third place in the Bundesliga and were aided by the 21-year-old’s inherent capabilities, both defensively and progressively.

Per Fbref, he completed 87.18 passes per 90, in which he completed 89% of those passes that he attempts. Predominantly from centre-back, he completed 0.63 successful take-ons per 90, too, which shows his ability to handle the ball and progress through the lines when required.

Another benefit of his game that Gvardiol will be excited about is that he is left-footed, meaning he is able to operate at either left centre-back or left-back. This is an intangible asset of his ever-growing list of abilities, which will suit Guardiola’s system like a glove.

Ryan Taylor recently told GIVEMESPORT that he is the ‘perfect’ fit for the Spaniard’s system, and it’s hard to disagree. A signing of this very magnitude has the opportunity of transforming this City side to the next level, and that is a terrifying thought.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, journalist Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT.

It could be a busy summer for Julen Lopetegui and his recruitment team as they look to replace some of their key players who are departing.

Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer news – Latest
After a difficult campaign in the Premier League, Wolves could be looking to have a bit of a rebuild in the summer transfer window.

Max Kilman has been the subject of interest from Italian side Napoli, with The Telegraph reporting that the Midlands club have rejected a £30m bid for the defender.

The report claims that Wolves are looking to keep hold of Kilman this summer rather than allow him to leave the club.

Ruben Neves has already left Molineux to move to Saudi Arabia and Joao Moutinho has departed with his contract expiring.

Adama Traore’s deal has also expired, so Wolves are going to need to bring in multiple reinforcements.

A centre-back, however, could be a priority for the club.

Nathan Collins, who started 19 Premier League games last season, as per FBref, has left the club to join London side Brentford.

What has Jones said about Wolves?
Discussing Wolves’ transfer plans this summer, Jones has suggested that Fulham centre-back Adarabioyo, who was labelled as ‘exceptional’ by Pep Guardiola, is a player of interest to Lopetegui.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “Wolves are going to market in search of at least one centre-back, maybe two depending on how the Kilman situation plays out.

“There is quite a lot of excitement around the rebuild that Lopetegui is looking towards and the foundations need to be in place soon so that the side has a solid look to it for next season.

“The defensive record was a bit of a mess last term, they conceded 14 goals in their final five games of last season and they are looking for some good value players now, ideally with Premier League experience.

One player that I’ve heard there is a bit of interest in is Tosin Adarabioyo at Fulham. Wolves actually first looked at him a couple of years ago but the player is currently looking for a new club.

“Ideally he is looking for a step up, he wants to join a Tottenham-sized club and those links are already there, but if his top options don’t come through soon then this could become an interesting alternative. It could be one to look out for down the road.”

Who else could Wolves look to sign this summer?
As mentioned, Adarabioyo is an option at Molineux, who could cost in the region of £13m.

Reports in Spain have claimed that Wolves could be a potential destination for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, who was on loan at Chelsea last season.

It’s understood that Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse is an option in the middle of the park for Lopetegui’s side, but they are likely to face plenty of competition to try and secure his signature this summer.
