Tottenham have the opportunity to return to the summit of the Premier League when they take to the pitch against Chelsea on Monday evening. Having had a decent period on the training field with Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff following the 2-1 win at Crystal Palace last time out, Spurs will be raring to go as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.

The main talking point heading into the London derby clash is the return of Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Dismissed as Spurs boss four years ago, the Argentine is now in charge of Chelsea and has so far endured a mixed start to his Stamford Bridge tenure.

Lifted by the return of Rodrigo Bentancur in the win at Selhurst Park, Postecoglou will be hoping that he is given a further boost on the injury front amid concerns regarding Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies going into the game. So what changes could the Australian potentially make to his Tottenham team for the Chelsea clash? football.london takes a look below.

Destiny Udogie/Emerson Royal for Ben Davies
Question marks persist over Davies’ place in the matchday squad on Monday night as Postecoglou admitted in his pre-match press conference that the Welshman has an ankle issue at present. Starting the Crystal Palace game at left-back and struggling before he was replaced by Emerson Royal, it’s hard to see the experienced player starting from the off against Chelsea.

If Udogie is once again absent after missing out entirely from Spurs’ last league fixture, Emerson should start as he delivered a very good performance both defensively and going forward in the win over Roy Hodgson’s team. The Brazilian certainly deserves another start if Udogie is missing after more than making his case to Postecoglou.

However, it’s a fairly simple decision for the head coach to make if the Italy international is in a position to play again once they’ve assessed his fitness. Outstanding for Tottenham since making his bow for the club at the beginning of the season, Udogie is an automatic pick at left-back.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for Yves Bissouma
One change Postecoglou could potentially consider is giving Hojbjerg a start after some very good performances of late. Perhaps rather unlucky to drop down to the bench against Crystal Palace after wowing in the win over Fulham, the Dane did help Tottenham get over the line in the second half when he replaced Bissouma for the closing stages in south London.

The Mali international didn’t have his best of games at Palace but it’s still hard to see him making way as he has been pivotal this season. If Hojbjerg is to start on the bench again, there’s a very good chance he will still have a big part to play in the closing stages against Chelsea if required.

Although Bentancur is back after making his long-awaited return from injury, Spurs need to ease the Uruguayan in rather than rushing him straight back into the starting XI.

Brennan Johnson for Richarlison
A further change that could take place on the left flank is Johnson for Richarlison. The summer addition has endured a stop-start beginning to his Tottenham career so far but he contributed in a big way at Palace with an assist for Son Heung-min two minutes after his introduction from the bench.

That may tempt Postecoglou into unleashing him from the off against Chelsea, with his player possessing plenty of pace and skill to trouble the Blues. Richarlison looks to be the obvious choice to miss out if Johnson is to come in, although he has had an impact recently with one goal and three assists in his last six league appearances.

Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be tracking Aberdeen defender Slobodan Rubezic after a scouting mission to Scotland.

Aberdeen centre back Slobodan Rubezic is thought to have put himself on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.

That is according to The Sun, who claim that Ange Postecoglou has told Tottenham to scout in Scotland.

Postecoglou already has a decent grasp of the Scottish game having managed Celtic for two years.

The Australian wants Tottenham to keep up to date with the talent north of the border though, with one new name in the mix…

Tottenham Hotspur attracted to Aberdeen defender Rubezic
The Sun claim that Tottenham scout Ian Broomfield watched Aberdeen centre back Slobodan Rubezic in action.

Rubezic has only been with Aberdeen for a few months now but is already turning heads.

Tottenham now appear to be keen with Postecoglou looking for more defensive options.

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have formed a great partnership but Eric Dier hasn’t been a key part of the plans.

That leaves the door open for another signing with Rubezic now on the radar ahead of 2024.

Who is Tottenham target Slobodan Rubezic?
Rubezic hails from Belgrade in Serbia and spent time in the youth ranks of both Vojvodina and Cukaricki.

Rubezic moved on to Arda Kardzhali in Bulgaria before returning to Serbia with Novi Pazar.

Aberdeen pounced to land Rubezic over the summer, paying just £200,000 to lure him to Pittodrie.

A giant 6ft 4in defender, Rubezic doesn’t really seem like a typical Postecoglou defender right now but he is only 23 and could be developed.

Dons teammate Stefan Gartenmann certainly sees big things in Rubezic, telling The Press and Journal that the defender has ‘everything to be a top defender’.

Gartenmann added that Rubezic is a ‘big name in the making’ if he continues his development, predicting big things for him.

Rubezic recently switched his international allegiance to play for Montenegro, making his debut against Lebanon in October.

Tottenham may well have found a potential gem in Rubezic and they will likely keep tabs on him moving forward.
