Tottenham have the ideal opportunity to bounce back from last Friday’s FA Cup defeat to Man City when they take on Brentford at home on Wednesday evening. Ange Postecoglou’s team were far from their best in their loss to the treble winners and he will want his players to respond in the best way possible by putting the Bees to the sword.

The Lilywhites have struggled to get the better of Brentford in their Premier League meetings over the past couple of seasons and it will not be a straightforward game at all despite the west London club’s lowly position. Wednesday’s match is the first of two games in a matter of days for Tottenham as they travel to Goodison Park on Saturday to face Everton.

As a result of the quick turnaround, Postecoglou may well look to freshen up his team as they look to claim six points from a possible six. So who exactly could he select in his Tottenham XI against Brentford? Our Tottenham correspondents at football.london have made their team selections below.

Ange Postecoglou needs to breathe some creativity back into his Spurs side and after another five days or so of training, he can do that by starting James Maddison for the first time in two-and-a-half months. The England international’s return to the line-up would likely mean Dejan Kulusevski pushing up to the right of the front three and could mean Brennan Johnson drops to the bench.

Timo Werner was making lots of runs on Friday night that went unseen by the midfield and Maddison could be the key to unlocking the German down the left.

In the centre of the pitch, Oliver Skipp had another bright cameo from the bench after his positive display against the other Manchester side before the break so Postecoglou might look to use his fresh legs in the place of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

There is a case for giving Radu Dragusin a start within this busy little burst of fixtures and the Spurs boss must decide whether to use the 21-year-old Romanian in this game or the one at Everton with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven having played so little football in recent weeks.

Gold’s team: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Skipp, Bentancur, Maddison; Kulusevski, Richarlison, Werner.

Ange Postecoglou has a couple of decisions to make in regards to his Tottenham XI to take on Brentford as he looks to freshen things up. Starting in defence, the opportunity could be there to give Radu Dragusin his first Tottenham start following his move from Genoa.

The Romanian needs to get some Premier League experience under his belt and this may be the ideal time to do so with two matches in quick succession. Micky van de Ven could be given a breather in that case despite an excellent showing against Man City as Cristian Romero’s leadership is going to be required.

A change then takes place in midfield as James Maddison comes into the starting XI after his cameo off the bench in the FA Cup on Friday night. HIs creativity will be a major factor as Spurs look to make things happen in attack, with Dejan Kulusevski reverting to the right wing as a result of the England international coming back in.

That means Brennan Johnson drops down to the bench as Timo Werner deserves another go from the left after showing some promise against Man City.

Guest’s team: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Udogie; Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Maddison; Kulusevski, Richarlison, Werner.
