Manchester City will not loan out ‘creative’ gem for 2024/25

Manchester City will reportedly not be loaning out a player who is set to join the club very soon.

It has been a quiet summer so far at the Etihad Stadium.

A number of players are currently on international duty at Euro 2024 and the Copa America, and City have not yet brought any players in.

July is likely to be a bit more interesting though, as players return to their clubs for pre-season.

Pep Guardiola is keen to prepare his squad to go in pursuit of a fifth straight Premier League title, and there has been a report today about the future of one player who isn’t actually a City player just yet.

MORE MAN CITY STORIES
It was reported earlier this year that Manchester City had reached an agreement to bring in Brazilian winger Savio from Troyes this summer.

Savio has just finished a tremendous season on loan at Girona, helping the Spanish side to finish third in La Liga and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The deal is done, with official confirmation from City expected very soon.

Over the last few weeks and months, there has been speculation as to whether City will actually keep hold of Savio for the 2024/25 season. It has also been suggested the club could loan him out, with Girona potentially poised to take him back.

But SPORT have reported today that there is ‘no chance’ of Girona getting Savio on loan.

That is because City have decided to keep the player for 2024/25 and use him for the first-team.

Initially, Girona were very optimistic about getting him back, and the probability of him returning was ‘quite high’. But City were left impressed by Savio in the second half of last season especially.

The player – who recently scored his first goal for Brazil against Paraguay at the Copa America – will apparently be going on City’s pre-season tour of the US, and then be sticking with Pep and his first-team squad.

An exciting update
READ MORE: Who is Savio? The ‘special’ starlet who tore up La Liga Man City are set to make their first summer signing
We will see if SPORT’s claim about Savio rings true, but it is exciting to think that the winger could be sticking around at City.

The 20-year-old – described earlier this year by BTL as ‘a creative winger’ and a ‘good finisher’ – was such a livewire last season for Girona, who may not have sealed Champions League football without his 21 contributions.

He has seemingly forced City officials to perform a U-turn, with the expectation initially that he would be heading straight out on loan.

It sounds as though his performances in 2024 were enough to convince people that he is ready to be used in the first-team now. Hopefully, if he is kept, then he can enjoy a similar sort of first season to what Jeremy Doku did.

He came in as a raw winger, and blew fans away with his direct style of play and fearlessness.

Tottenham now working on deal to sign £35m player after he changed his mind following medical.

UK
Tottenham are now working on a deal to sign a Championship player after he had a change of heart.

Spurs have been no strangers to dipping into England’s second tier for signings over the years, taking Ryan Sessegnon, James Maddison and Jack Clarke from the Championship in recent times.

Now, Tottenham are working hard to sign another player from that division after a dramatic turn of events…

Tottenham pushing to sign Archie Gray
A story from The Athletic now states that Tottenham are trying to sign Leeds No.22 Archie Gray after his move to Brentford collapsed.

The Bees thought they had signed the England U21 international in a £35m deal on Saturday, and the 18-year-old even underwent a medical after agreeing personal terms with Thomas Frank’s side.

Now – however – Gray is believed to have had second thoughts over a move to Brentford, with Tottenham now in talks to sign the teenager instead.

The Athletic state that no agreement has been reached, although there is an expectation from all parties that a deal will be agreed.

No fee is mentioned, although we would presume Leeds will accept the same £35m they agreed to take from Brentford, on the basis that Spurs pay more of it upfront – Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard believes it was the structure of that payment that saw talks collapse between the Whites and the Bees, rather than the value itself.

Tottenham plotting to hijack Archie Gray’s Brentford deal – sources

Tottenham are plotting a sensational move to hijack Brentford’s deal for Leeds United star Archie Gray, sources have told Football Insider.

Leeds have accepted a £40million bid including add-ons from Brentford as the Premier League side look to secure the 18-year-old’s services.

Gray has agreed personal terms and is set to undergo a medical ahead of completing his move to west London.

But Tottenham have a longstanding interest in the England Under-21 international and are weighing up a shock ambush on Sunday.

Leeds are in financial strife and need to sell a player for a big fee ahead of Sunday’s accounting deadline.

Tottenham could hijack Archie Gray deal after Brentford move agreed..

The versatile player, who spent most of his breakthrough campaign playing at right-back, has drawn the attention of several top clubs after impressing scouts with his performances.

Gray started in 47 of his 52 outings last season as Leeds just missed out on promotion back to the Premier League following their play-off final defeat against Southampton..

Brentford have agreed a deal for his services, but Tottenham are plotting a last-ditch attempt to take him to north London before Sunday’s accounting deadline.

Arsenal supporters will be seething as Manchester City have snatched Chelsea wonderkid Ryan McAidoo who was reportedly on the brink of signing for the north London club.

The Gunners were believed to be nearing the signing of 16-year-old McAidoo from Chelsea for several months now, and were considered the favourites to secure the young player’s services. However, Fabrizio Romano has now reported that City have intercepted Arsenal’s move for McAidoo – and he’s now bound for the Etihad instead of the Emirates Stadium.

The report claims that City have struck a deal for the youngster to join their academy, outmanoeuvring several Premier League clubs after the player chose to sign for them. While first-team action for the youngster seems distant, the chance to nurture McAidoo as a player and capitalise on his potential in the future will be a significant loss to the Gunners.

McAidoo has only made four appearances for Chelsea in the U18 Premier League so far, also representing England at U17 level twice against Northern Ireland and Hungary in the European Championship qualifiers. However, his impressive ball control, speed, precise passing and shooting skills have not gone unnoticed by Pep Guardiola, who is keen to test McAidoo at the Etihad Campus.

This marks another victory for City over their Premier League rivals – they’ve outdone them in the title race for two consecutive seasons while Arsenal has had to settle for runner-up. The 2022/23 season saw Mikel Arteta’s team miss the title by a mere five points, despite looking like potential champions towards the end.

A disappointing run of just three victories in their last nine matches allowed Guardiola’s squad to catch up and surpass them, leaving Arsenal supporters wondering what might have been with better performances. The 2023/24 season was a much closer contest, with City and Arsenal battling it out until the final match of the season.

Yet again, the Cityzens came out on top. Arsenal needed to defeat Everton to claim their first title in 20 years but they also required West Ham to triumph over their Manchester adversaries – and while the Gunners did their part, City ultimately defeated the Hammers 3-1 to clinch the Premier League title by a heart-breaking two points.

As if that wasn’t painful enough, Arteta will be smarting once more as City have dealt another blow by snatching a player who seemed destined for Arsenal. It’s not the first time that transfers involving City and Arsenal have gone awry. Arteta brought Gabriel Jesus to the Emirates in 2022 for a hefty £45million.

Despite being a sensation under Guardiola, netting 58 goals in 159 appearances for the club, he’s found it tough to adjust to the Gunners’ style of play. In his 53 outings in Arsenal colours, the forward has only managed to find the back of the net 15 times – four in the latest season and 11 in his debut campaign with the club – and is no longer a guaranteed starter. The same can be said for Euro 2024 star Oleksandr Zinchenko, who had a disappointing last season and was occasionally left out of the squad.

Spurs could still hijack move for Championship starFeatured Image
Date: 30th June 2024 at 9:37am
Written by: Author
The transfer window is now in full swing and Premier League clubs are once again busy looking to bolster their squads ahead of the new season.

Clubs at both ends of the top flight table will be keen to add to their ranks this summer, but they must now also be wary of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Tottenham Hotspur are one of those clubs that will be looking to add to manager Ange Postecoglou’s squad in the coming weeks, and it has now emerged that the North London club could hijack a move for a Championship star.

According to Ben Jacobs, Tottenham are still in contention to sign Leeds United star Archie Gray, despite the teenager being close to joining Brentford.

Jacobs claims that the Bees had agreed a £40 million move for the 18-year-old defender, but the move is not yet finalised despite a medical being scheduled.

Gray looks likely to leave boyhood club Leeds this summer

With that in mind, the journalist claims that the move could still be hijacked and that the Lilywhites are one of the clubs to keep an eye on in that regard.

Gray is a product of the Whites’ youth academy and is regarded by many as one of the most promising young players in England at present.

The youngster made his senior debut at the start of last season and has now played 52 times for the club across all competitions.

Gray’s contract with Leeds is set to expire in 2028, but the Championship side may have to sell at least one key player this summer in order to avoid breaching P&S rules.

Jacobs claims that selling Gray would solve the club’s concerns in relation to profit and sustainability.

Manchester City will be wanting to utilise a considered transfer strategy this summer but some quick work now could see them seal a dream transfer.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle find themselves in a mad scramble to avoid breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). On Sunday, June 30 the deadline will pass for Premier League teams to complete deals to ensure they have not made losses in excess of £105m.

It is believed that the Magpies are in such desperate need of sales they have offered Anthony Gordon to Liverpool in exchange for their defender Jarell Quansah. This was rejected by the Merseyside club but it perhaps shows the desperate position find themselves in.

If Newcastle cannot find a solution to this issue, they run the risk of a significant points deduction akin to that which Everton and Nottingham Forest suffered last season. Fortunately for City, this could benefit them.

The Blues are thought to be interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer. Defensive midfield is likely to be an area which needs strengthening this pre-season as Kalvin Phillips is expected to be sold.

Recently, Guimaraes’ £100m release clause at St James’ Park expired which was thought to have strengthened Newcastle’s resolve to keep the midfielder. While Eddie Howe would be reluctant to sell the midfielder, he may not have another choice if that is the difference between avoiding a points deduction and not.

What is more, City could bag themselves a bargain if desperation to make a sale builds to a point where Newcastle have to make a transfer. Nobody expected Gordon to be offered out this window so Guimaraes being offered out this weekend is not off the cards either.

ESPN’s Mina Kimes ranks Kyle Shanahan as 2nd-best head coach in the NFL
How many NFL head coaches are better than Kyle Shanahan? Mina Kimes thinks the answer is one.

ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes was joined by The Ringer’s Kevin Clark on her podcast, The Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny, last week, and the two experts each ranked the top-10 head coaches in the NFL. Clark ranked San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan sixth, behind Andy Reid, Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh, and Sean McVay. Kimes, on the other hand, ranked Shanahan second, only behind Reid.

Shanahan, of course, was hired by the 49ers heading into the 2017 NFL season. A franchise in disarray after a series of bad front office/head coach hiring decisions by CEO Jed York, Shanahan has helped turn the Niners around. While the 49ers have undeniably had their struggles during his tenure, they have also reached the NFC Championship game three times in the past four years, including an NFC Championship in 2019.

“The guy, I think, is the best offensive play-caller in the NFL. He builds machines that are largely quarterback-proof in a way that is just remarkable,” Kimes said about Shanahan. “He has tortured every defense since coming to the NFC West. As a play-caller, the amount of value he brings is so exceptional… After Reid, if I was just picking a guy to win one game, I would pick him.”

While Clark was obviously high on Shanahan, he pointed to Shanahan’s 52-46 win-loss record and lack of Super Bowl title as the main reason he was unable to crack his top-five.

Kimes pushed back on ranking Shanahan over McVay, acknowledging that Clark likely put more emphasis on a coach’s resume than she did. To her, Shanahan is in a league above McVay.

“I would take Kyle Shanahan if I was building a team from scratch over all but like eight quarterbacks in the NFL,” Kimes said. “Which is an absolutely deranged thing to say about a coach, and I don’t feel that way about any of the other coaches on this list [other than Reid].”

You can watch Kimes’ full conversation with Clark below. Where do you think Shanahan ranks among NFL head coaches? How many other coaches would you pick over him? Let us know in the comments.

Mina Kimes clearly missed hundreds of snaps taken by Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard. along with the mercurial reality of Jimmy’s performances

It’s an astonishing shallow take “qUarterBacK pRoOf”

Shanahan isn’t a better head coach than Reid or Belicheck… and there isn’t anything wrong with that at all.

But it definitely devalues these talking head opinions to time wasting drivel.

I’m glad he’s the HC of the Niners, they probably cannot improve on him, but he’s definitely not the second best head coach in the league…. Probably somewhere between 4-6 depending on the day/opponent

There’s generational and then there’s Antoine Dupont’ – France star delivers again as ‘The Martian’ produces otherworldly display

Antoine Dupont may already be one of the greatest to have ever played the game despite the scrum-half not yet turning 28.

Only a Rugby World Cup win eludes a player that has done pretty much everything else in the game, inspiring Toulouse to both domestic and European success, and France to a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2022.

Dupont once again produced a stunning performance on Friday to help Les Rouge et Noir lift the Top 14 title for the fourth time in five years.

Dominant display
The 27-year-old played a key role as Ugo Mola’s men absolutely demolished Bordeaux-Begles 59-3 in the showpiece event.

It was a demoralising night for UBB but that was mainly due to Dupont and his team-mates, who did the tormenting.

His second try was particularly special as a fine team move put the France superstar in space. Dupont still had plenty to do but he brilliantly chipped the ball over the top of international team-mate Maxime Lucu and raced ahead to touch down.

As Planet Rugby features editor Jared Wright stated: “This was special from Antoine Dupont: The Martian.”

“It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if Dupont drives to training in a spaceship,” they wrote, while Tight Five Rugby added: “Antoine Dupont does it AGAIN. Enjoy it, the most talented player to ever live.”

‘Once in a century player’
Munster fan and analyst Three Red Kings had high praise for Dupont, labelling him as one of the greatest rugby union has ever seen.

“There’s generational and then there’s Antoine Dupont. A once in a century type of player,” he wrote on Twitter.

Despite the World Cup disappointment, Dupont has enjoyed another incredible year, highlighted by Toulouse winning the double..

He also split his time between XVs and Sevens, but his performances have rather remarkably never dipped in either form of the game.

Dupont now switches his attention to the Olympics where he will hope to win a gold medal for hosts France at the Paris games.

“Antoine Dupont has won a Sevens World Sevens title, the Champions Cup and the Top 14 this season,” journalist Cian Tracey wrote.

“Sevens rookie of the year award.

“Man of the match in the Champions Cup final.

“Man of the match in the Top 14 final.

“Olympic medal next…?”

Ugo Mola, le lourd héritage

A 42 ans, l’ancien trois-quarts toulousain a déjà entraîné Castres, Brive et Albi. Panoramic

LIVERPOOL FC TRANSFER RUMOURS
Michael Owen warns Liverpool: ‘Without these two players you’d only be a DECENT team’

PETER STAUNTON
Michael Owen has urged Liverpool to keep Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk at the club for as long as possible, warning that the Reds are merely a ‘decent’ team without the duo.

The high-profile pair, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold, are out of contract at the end of next season with no progress so far on a potential new deal for either.

Salah, 32, has been a target for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad for a year or so with the Anfield side fending off £150 million offer for the Egyptian king last summer.

Van Dijk, who turns 33 this summer, has been linked with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as well as Saudi Pro League teams such as Al-Nassr.

Liverpool appear to be forming plans to replace both Van Dijk and Salah in the long-term with numerous transfer links to left-sided centre backs and right-sided forwards.

Riccardo Calafiori, Goncalo Inacio, Levi Colwill and Piero Hincapie are among the names linked with arrivals in the central defensive department while players like Dario Osorio and Mohammed Kudus have been mooted as potential attacking signings.

Salah and Van Dijk are among the club’s top earners, commanding over £500,000 a week between them and ex-Red Owen understands the predicament the club finds itself in.

The balance between striking the right deal for the club and gaining maximum return from players must be kept in check, he suggests.

Furthermore, he believes Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes need to do everything in their power to prolong Salah and Van Dijk’s stays as without them the side would be distinctly average.

“It all depends on what terms and things like that, doesn’t it,” he told AceOdds as reported by DAZN.

“There’s always fans out there that are so desperate that say: ‘Just give them whatever they want’ and I’m not a person who thinks that, of course.

“But you’ve got to keep the difference makers. You’ve got to find difference-makers.

“Liverpool have probably got three or four in their team that are the difference between being a decent team and a great team.

“And every team is the same. There will be good players, great players, and then there’s just the absolute elite, and Virgil Van Dijk is the absolute elite.

“Mo Salah in his position, is the absolute elite. If you take both of them out of the team, they’re not going to win the league next year. They are that important. Unless you replace them obviously with top equal players.

“So, yes, I would very much like to see Mo Salah and Van Dijk continue.

“There’s no sign of them aging, apart from, obviously, we all age every single day. But there’s no sign in their performance that they’re aging.

“I would like to see Liverpool have both of those players for the foreseeable.”

Report – Club prepared to sell £276,000 a week star to Liverpool
June 28, 2024 Ritayan Chatterjee 0 Comments newsnow
Liverpool have been contacted to be informed that Bayern Munich would be open to selling Kingsley Coman this summer, as per the journalist Graeme Bailey.

The 28-year-old’s future at the Bavarian club is currently uncertain following their decision to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. The Frenchman’s move to the Allianz Arena hasn’t been made official yet but he is on the verge of joining.

News – Report – Liverpool have ‘moved’ in to sign £42.3m versatile star

Now, Bailey reports on HITC that Coman is uncertain whether he has a place in Bayern Munich next season with contact already made with Liverpool through intermediaries to let them know that the player would be available this summer.

However, Vincent Kompany’s side reportedly want around £50m for the former Juve star, who still has three years left on his current contract, and the price seems a bit steep for a player who has had fitness problems in recent times.

He was out injured for a large part of last season and only started 15 games in the Bundesliga. Moreover, he has only managed to feature for 15 minutes for France in the European Championships so far.

The journalist further claims that apart from Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have also been handed the opportunity to acquire his service this summer.

Coman currently earns around £276,000-a-week in wages and he could demand a salary hike to move to Anfield.

The Les Bleus star is an explosive winger, who scored the winning goal for Bayern in the UEFA Champions League final against PSG four years ago.

Considering he has struggled with injury problems in recent times and is edging closer towards his 30s, he might not be the right option for the Reds with a view to the long-term future.

Hence, Arne Slot’s side would be better off exploring other options to strengthen the frontline this summer. What do you think?

Manchester City Prepared To Sell Striker, Set Price
28/06/2024 – 21:29 BST

JAKE DAVIES

Manchester City have an asking price in mind for striker Liam Delap, with Southampton and Hull City both keen, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Delap, 21, was on loan at Hull in the Championship last season and found the back of the net eight times in 31 outings.

He saw a knee injury badly interrupt his campaign, but the Tigers saw more than enough to want him back again.

Premier League new boys Southampton are also interested in Delap as they stare at the prospect of losing Che Adams.

Manchester City are prepared to cash in on Delap and it is suggested that a bid of around £10m would do the trick.

Delap has now accumulated 68 appearances in the Championship in total, scoring 12 goals.

Manchester City believe the striker should command a fee in the region of £10m if they are to sell him.

Delap still has another two years to run on his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

NEWSManchester City rise to third in financial sustainability rankings – club managed by 177-appearance legend also featurePublished: 15:45 on June 28th 2024 | Last Updated: 13:04 on June 28th 2024By Harry Winters

Manchester City have been named as Europe’s third most financially sustainable club, and are the only English side to rank in the top 10.

Pep Guardiola’s side extended their unprecedented success with a further three trophies during the recent 2023/24 campaign, lifting a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title, alongside the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Manchester City, who also won the UEFA Champions League as part of a landmark treble in 2023, have won six of the last seven Premier League’s and a total of 17 trophies since Guardiola’s arrival in 2016.

The Sky Blues have enjoyed huge financial success as a result of their major achievements on the field, with Manchester City posting £712.8 million in revenue from the 2022/23 season, an increase of £99.8 million.

Manchester City recorded their highest ever revenue and record profits as a result of the treble-winning campaign, with commercial revenue of £341.4 million.

The Etihad outfit were displaced by Real Madrid on the Deloitte Football Money League in 2024 despite the record figures, although the Blues were the highest ranking Premier League club.

Manchester City have ranked as the third most financially sustainable European club however, with Scandinavian clubs dominating the list published by Off The Pitch.

The rankings are based off a weighted model, using on EBITDA-margin, return-on-assets (excluding exceptional income) and Equity-ratio.

Norwegian pair Bodø/Glimt and Molde FK ranked ahead of the Premier League champions, with the Sky Blues being the only English club to feature in the top 10.

AGF Aarhus, who ranked in eighth place, are managed by Manchester City legend Uwe Rosler, with the German having made 177 appearances for the Blues between 1994 and 1998.

Rosler scored 64 goals, and moved to Manchester City permanently after a return of five goals in 12 games during the 1993/94 campaign.

The 55-year-old previously managed both Leeds United and Brentford, and has been coaching in the Danish top-flight since 2022.

Micah Richards has heard that Manchester City are interested in ‘Amazing’ Euro 2024 star also wanted by Arsenal

Micah Richards has heaped praise on one Euro 2024 star and has heard that his former side Manchester City are keen on a summer deal.

What is next for Manchester City? After their treble triumph and record-breaking four successive Premier League titles it seems they are running out of records to break.

My FULL Euro 2024 Predictions |…
Pep Guardiola has the difficult task of re-motivating his squad ahead of the new campaign, where they will once again be favourites to defend their title.

Something Guardiola has done brilliantly during his time at City is keeping his squad fresh and hungry for silverware and his transfer activity is central too that.

The champions make sure to keep introducing young and exciting talents into their side to fight off complacency, and Italy star Riccardo Calafiori could be their next target after shining at Euro 2024.

Manchester City interest in Riccardo Calafiori
Despite being the reigning champions of the Euros, hopes around Italy defending their title were fairly slim heading into this summer.

They have not stood out as tournament contenders but Italy’s defensive unit are certainly deserving of praise.

Steffi Graf, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova celebrate winning Wimbledon
A host of tennis legends feature among the WTA players with the best grass-court records, with Martina Navratilova top ahead of Serena Williams.

Steffi Graf, Chris Evert, Venus Williams and Justine Henin are some of the other icons who make the list.

Here, we look at the nine women with the highest singles win percentages on grass in WTA Tour history (with a minimum of 50 wins on the surface).

9. Kim Clijsters – 56-16 (77.77%)
Kim Clijsters won 77.77% of her matches on grass, making it her third-best surface in terms of win percentage behind hard and carpet courts, and ahead of clay.

The Belgian secured two grass-court titles from three finals and she was also a two-time semi-finalist at Wimbledon.

8. Jana Novotna – 79-21 (79%)
Jana Novotna compiled a 79-21 grass-court record and won both of her titles on the surface in 1998: at Eastbourne and Wimbledon.

Prior to her emotional triumph at Wimbledon, the Czech was a two-time runner-up at the All England Club.

7. Maria Sharapova – 83-21 (79.80%)
Maria Sharapova earned 83 victories from her 104 matches on grass and posted a 3-4 record in the seven title matches she played on the surface.

The Russian won her maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2004, while she was also a two-time champion at the Birmingham Classic. Sharapova was a silver medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, with the tennis event played at the All England Club.

6. Venus Williams – 98-22 (81.66%)
Venus Williams holds a 98-22 career grass-court record, with her win rate of 81.66% her best percentage on any surface.

All five of the American’s titles on grass have come at Wimbledon, while she is also a four-time finalist at the All England Club.

5. Justine Henin – 53-11 (82.81%)
Justine Henin won 53 of the 64 matches she contested on grass and triumphed in three of the seven finals she reached on the surface.

The Belgian was a two-time runner-up at Wimbledon — which was the only Major title she did not win — in 2001 and 2006.

4. Steffi Graf – 85-15 (85%)
Steffi Graf amassed an 85-15 record from her 100 grass-court matches, which, somewhat surprisingly, makes the surface her worst in terms of win percentage.

The German reached all nine of her grass finals at Wimbledon, where she won seven titles — making it her most successful Grand Slam event.

3. Chris Evert – 242-35 (87.36%)
Chris Evert won 242 of the 277 matches she played on grass, with her 87.36% win percentage lower than her totals on clay, hard, and carpet courts.

The American was a 17-time grass court-titlist and three-time Wimbledon winner, while she was also a runner-up on the surface on 12 occasions.

2. Serena Williams – 107-15 (87.70%)
Serena Williams compiled a 107-15 record from her 122 matches on grass, with her 87.7% win ratio her highest percentage on a single surface.

The American secured eight grass-court titles, including seven Wimbledon crowns, from the 12 finals she reached on the surface. Williams’s other grass triumph was the gold medal she won at the 2012 London Olympics.

1. Martina Navratilova – 307-39 (88.72%)
Martina Navratilova holds the Open Era record for grass-court match wins (307 of the 346 matches she played) and she also has the highest win percentage among women on the surface.

The Czech-American claimed 32 grass-court titles, with a record nine of these triumphs coming at Wimbledon, from a total of 41 finals.

Aymeric Laporte says Manchester City teammate Eric Garcia is recovering well and will be fine after suffering a shocking injury in the Premier League win over Arsenal on Wednesday.

With City 2-0 up and comfortable, goalkeeper Ederson collided with Garcia as he came to clear a forward ball, clattering into the young defender and leaving him prone on the ground.

Medical staff attended to Garcia for around ten minutes before strapping him up and lifting him onto a stretcher. Garcia was carried off the pitch and manager Pep Guardiola later said he would go to hospital to undergo tests.

“We are concerned about Eric of course. He is conscious but I think he is going to be tested tonight because a kick in the head is always so dangerous,” Guardiola said.

Now, Garcia’s defensive partner Laporte has offered an encouraging update on Garcia’s condition, taking to Twitter on Thursday to say the young Spaniard was doing well.

Laporte wrote: “u guys been asking me a lot about Eric : he’s OK fam. he just needs a couple days to rest but he will be fine soon enough.”

The news will be a relief for everyone at City, with players and staff from both sides visibly concerned for Garcia following the collision with Ederson.

PSG and Barcelona are now understood to be prioritising the potential signing Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez this summer.

Sources close to CaughtOffside have confirmed that Saudi outfits remain keen on Robert Lewandowski. Though the Poland international is not willing to leave Barcelona, an astronomical offer could change the Catalan club’s mind.

Otherwise, it will be difficult for the La Liga side to make an offer exceeding €100m for the City footballer.
