Liverpool FC announce $210 million investment, this could benefit future transfers

The sale of a small share to American private equity firm Dynasty Equity has been disclosed by Liverpool FC.

According to This Is Anfield, the New York-based fund spent somewhere in the neighbourhood of $150 million (£123 million) to purchase a stake in the club from Fenway Sports Group.

That sum of money has already been set aside to settle the Reds’ growing bank debts, which are the result of recent Anfield development projects, the construction of the new AXA Training Centre, and the repurchase of Melwood.

However, this should free up funds for future investing in Jurgen Klopp’s team thanks to rising commercial, matchday, and broadcast revenue sources.

Dynasty’s arrival brings an end to a long-running search for minority investment in Liverpool, which was overseen by Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.

The American banking giants were reportedly asked to initially assess interest in a full buyout of the club, while it is understood that conversations with several potential investors have taken place in recent years.

FSG has consistently maintained that they would prefer to give up a minority stake, and Mike Gordon reaffirmed this position on Thursday.

“Our long-term dedication to Liverpool remains as strong as ever,” Gordon stated.

“We have always stated that if an investment partner exists that is suitable for Liverpool, we will pursue the chance to assist in ensuring the club’s long-term financial stability and future expansion.

“We look forward to building on the long-standing relationship with Dynasty to further strengthen the club’s financial situation and sustain our aspirations for continued success on and off the pitch,” the statement reads.

Dynasty was formed by investors Jonathan Nelson and Don Cornwell in the summer of 2022 with the aim of raising $1 billion to invest in professional sports teams.

Dynasty CEO Cornwell added: “Liverpool is one of the most iconic football clubs in the world with a passionate fanbase and significant global reach.

“Dynasty is privileged to support the club and work alongside FSG to execute on the tremendous growth opportunities ahead.”
