DONE DEAL:Spurs has signed the best and strongest defender who is Chelsea best player

The Frenchman spent last season on loan at Tottenham.

Barcelona club chief Joan Laporta expects to reach an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over the signing of defender Clement Lenglet this summer.

Who are Spurs signing this summer?
As already confirmed, the Lilywhites have put pen to paper on deals for Dejan Kulusevski – who joins permanently from Juventus after 18 months on loan – alongside both goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and midfielder James Maddison.

The latter duo joined in this transfer window and for bargain fees, with Vicario signing for around ÂŁ17.2 million and Maddison for ÂŁ40 million, despite the latter starring for Leicester City last season.

Tottenham are also widely tipped to seal the capture of Manor Solomon on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk, coming after his impressive 23/23 loan spell at Fulham last year.

The Israeli international is set for a medical after travelling to London, according to Fabrizio Romano, whilst Spurs remain locked in talks over both Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.

A new centre-back features highly on Spurs’ to-do list this summer, coming after a season which saw them concede an unacceptable 63 league goals. Indeed, no other side above Bournemouth leaked more than that, with those numbers potentially concerning manager Ange Postecoglou.

Lenglet, who spent last season on loan at Spurs from Barca, has been linked with a return to north London permanently.

The Frenchman made 26 league appearances and even scored during their Champions League campaign, with reports suggesting he could be available for just ÂŁ8.5 million.

Catalans chief Laporta, speaking to La Vanguardia (via Romano), has confirmed that Barcelona expect to reach an agreement with Spurs over Lenglet’s transfer.

The 28-year-old, thought to be on around ÂŁ204,000-per-week, has caps at international level for France and has been seriously endorsed by compatriot Hugo Lloris.

What’s been said about Lenglet?
Lloris, speaking to the media last year, called Lenglet a “modern” defender whilst drawing attention to his physical strength as a centre-back – both aerially and in ground duels.

“He’s a modern defender,” said Lloris.

“Comfortable to be able to play from the back. He has a great left foot and can be very strong in one v one and he’s strong in the air.

“Even if it’s never easy when you arrive in the Premier League and he will have to adapt to the intensity of the games but he is a high level player, with experience.

“I’m even more happy because I have a good connection with him and also a great relationship with him. He has a great personality and he will adapt well to the team.”

Former Barca boss Ronald Koeman, speaking back in 2021, also called Lenglet a “very professional” and “serious” player.

There’s now a very real possibility that £26m player will join Tottenham – journalist

Tottenham Hotspur are on the market for a new central defender, and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven could be the one.

Spurs have started the transfer window in style. They made Dejan Kulusevski’s loan deal permanent and have since brought in Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison.

The focus now will be on defence, and Ben Jacobs has claimed on Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel that Van de Ven is a concrete target.

Tottenham Micky van de Ven

Tottenham could sign Micky van de Ven this summer

Tottenham‘s defence last season was absolutely shocking, wasn’t it?

Spurs conceded 63 goals in 38 Premier League games, making them the 15th-worst side in the division in terms of goals conceded. Three of the five sides who boasted a worse record got relegated.

Ange Postecoglou has a huge job on his hands now, and signing new defenders this summer is an absolute priority for Tottenham in the coming weeks.

Among all the names linked with a move to Spurs is Wolfsburg centre-back Micky van de Ven. Jacobs has claimed that he is a concrete target and move could happen this summer.

He said: “I think the first concrete one [centre-back] we are going to see in terms of negotiations is more likely to be Mikey van de Ven. That’s the one I think is one to watch as far as Tottenham are concerned.

“Tottenham have explored this deal on the player side. It’s pretty concrete from what I understand. I would call him now Maddison is in, really one of Tottenham’s top priorities if they can get him. And you will hear a lot about Liverpool but Spurs are more advanced one this one or more serious.

“They have reached out to explore the terms of the deal. They have definitely already held talks with his representatives and now we have to see how things progress on the club-to-club side.

“But this one is a very real possibility and sources at Spurs do indicate that he’s quite high up on the list of potential targets.”

TBR View:

Micky van de Ven is a special talent and definitely one to keep an eye on this summer.

The 22-year-old Dutchman has had a fine campaign for Wolfsburg, and he is on the radar of multiple top clubs in this window – including Tottenham and Liverpool.

One of Van de Ven’s most impressive traits is his speed. The defender is absolutely rapid, with a top speed of 35.97 km/h last season (Bundesliga.com). That’s faster than Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr.

Van de Ven is likely to be on the move this summer, and Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung have claimed that he will cost a minimum of ÂŁ26 million.

29-year-old Tottenham player doesn’t want to leave, he’s excited by Ange Postecoglou

Journalist Sami Mokbel has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier is keen to stay at the club beyond the summer as he’s excited to work under Ange Postecoglou.

Mokbel spoke on the Last Word on Spurs yesterday as he provided an update on Tottenham’s summer transfer window.

Spurs announced their third signing of the window last night as they snapped up James Maddison from Leicester City, after making Dejan Kulusevski’s loan switch a permanent one and bringing in goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham are expected to switch their focus to their backline after they struggled defensively last season.

They’ve been heavily linked with moves for the likes of Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven, but they face the task of trimming a bloated squad in the coming weeks.

Dier endured a difficult campaign last time out as he made multiple errors leading to goals.

The 29-year-old has struggled for form after making a promising start to the last campaign and receiving a call-up to the England squad.

The Athletic reported just last month that Dier could end up leaving on a free transfer next summer as he approaches the end of his contract at Spurs.

But Mokbel has claimed that Dier is keen to stay and fight for his place at Spurs under Postecoglou.

Dier doesn’t want to leave

The journalist shared an update on Dier’s future and despite claims he could end up leaving this summer, Mokbel expects him to stay in North London.

“Centre-back is an area they definitely want to strengthen, 100 per cent,” he said. “On that point actually, I would like to add there’s been a lot of talk of this summer about Eric Dier possibly leaving the club.

“My understanding of that situation is that Eric Dier actually wants to stay and he wants to fight for his place. He’s actually looking forward to working with Ange Postecoglou next season.”

Mokbel also believes Postecoglou will benefit from keeping the likes of Dier around in his first season as an experienced option.

“Unless there’s a change of heart, I think we can expect him to stay,” he added.

Dier has received plenty of criticism over the past year due to some lacklustre performances in a Tottenham shirt.

But it would make sense for Spurs to keep hold of him for a season as Postecoglou bids to re-shape his squad.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga are both facing uncertain futures at the club, while it remains unclear whether Spurs will move to sign Clement Lenglet permanently.

Spurs are certainly in need of an overhaul at centre-back, but it seems unrealistic to think they will upgrade every player in the position bar Cristian Romero this summer.

Sky Sports journalist says ‘outrageous’ player will have Tottenham medical today

UK

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of signing James Maddison, with a medical scheduled to take place today.

Spurs have already completed the signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli, while Dejan Kulusevski’s loan deal was also made permanent earlier this month.

Now, the focus is on an attacking midfielder, and Sheth has revealed on Twitter that Maddison is all set to become a new Tottenham player.

Sky Sports journalist says James Maddison will have his Tottenham medical today

Tottenham have long been linked with a move to sign James Maddison.

The ‘outrageous‘ Englishman has been one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League for a few years now. He has almost always delivered for Leicester, and he is due a big move.

It was always going to be between Tottenham and Newcastle United for Maddison this summer, but it looks like Spurs have won the race to sign him.

After revealing that Ange Postecoglou’s side were in advanced negotiations with Leicester for Maddison, Sheth confirmed on Twitter last night that the 26-year-old will have his Spurs medical on Wednesday, which is today.

The Sky Sports journalist tweeted: “Told James Maddison will have a medical on Wednesday.

“Tottenham & Leicester have an agreement in place worth £40m.”

TBR View:

Tottenham deserve immense credit if they pull this deal off.

Yes, Leicester are no longer in the Premier League and yes, Maddison only has a year left on his contract, but to get him for just ÂŁ40 million so early in the window is just incredible business.

Tottenham won’t be in any European competition next season, which means they’ll mostly play just one game a week. That could act as a huge advantage for Spurs.

If Maddison hits the ground running and Harry Kane continues to fire, Spurs could end up having a season to remember.

Man Utd, Tottenham and Chelsea have looming ÂŁ272m blackhole to fill with clock ticking

Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea will all be busy over the next year with a host of valuable assets being out of contract, potentially losing them millions in the transfer window. It’s become more of a norm nowadays to see clubs willingly lose top stars as free agents as they struggle to bring in fees worth selling for.

Liverpool saw Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino all leave as free agents this summer as they’re valuations were not met in previous windows. While Milner and Firmino were given an emotional farewell, there will be a part of the Liverpool ownership group who will surely be kicking themselves for not getting anything back from the ÂŁ83million outlay for both Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Both midfielders are still under 30 and have a chance of playing at the top level elsewhere and still could have commanded a fee. It acts as a warning for Liverpool’s rivals, who all face a similar situation next year.

Arsenal have managed to avoid a potential headache by signing William Saliba up to a new long-term deal. But north London rivals Tottenham arguably have the biggest worry of all with Harry Kane showing no sign of putting pen to paper on an extension.

According to transfermarkt, Kane is valued at ÂŁ78m alone but he’s not the only player who Tottenham risk losing for free. Davinson Sanchez, Ivan Perisic, Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier are also out of contract in 2024.

In total, Tottenham risk missing out on ÂŁ114m in transfers judging from their valuation on transfermarkt. Chelsea are in a similar situation with Mason Mount the biggest name potentially leaving on a free.

Manchester United are pushing to sign the attacking midfielder this summer with the Blues hoping to cash in now and avoid him leaving for nothing, but they’ve so far rejected two bids. Chelsea have managed to offload both Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on permanent deals this summer with both players out of contract next year.

Fabrizio Romano claims Tottenham will soon unveil ‘extraordinary’ signing

Tottenham Hotspur should be announcing the signing of Guglielmo Vicari any time now.

Spurs turned their attention away from David Raya and onto the Empoli goalkeeper, with negotiations moving fast.

Tottenham quickly struck a deal and, for a few days now, the decisive steps of the transfer have been taking place.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Vicario has completed the second part of his medical with Spurs.

In addition, all the documents have been signed, and the Italian should be unveiled as a Tottenham player soon.

Vicario has penned a contract with Spurs until the summer of 2028, added Romano.

‘The second-best Italian stopper’

Based on Romano’s comments, it looks like the Spurs announcement will be the very next step of this move.

Tottenham have been looking for a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris this summer.

Spurs initially focused on Brentford’s David Raya, but they seem to have turned their attentions elsewhere.

Apparently, the Bees weren’t budging on their £40million valuation of their asset in between the sticks.

Meanwhile, Vicario will reportedly cost Tottenham just over ÂŁ16million.

there have been plenty of positive reports from the likes of Alasdair Gold regarding Vicario.

‘The view in Italy is that Vicario was second only to Inter’s Andre Onana in Serie A with his performances last season,’ said Gold.

‘And (he) has become the second-best Italian stopper behind PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

And last year, Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon said Vicario was doing “extraordinary” things at Empoli.

In addition, Tottenham are signing a player that Manchester United were reportedly monitoring too.

All in all, Vicario looks promising. Let’s see how he does in pre-season and beyond for the Lilywhites.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR NOW CONFIDENT OF SIGNING ÂŁ30M LIVERPOOL TARGET

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven with a ÂŁ30million now deal now likely to go through.

Micky van de Ven is nearing a move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur now confident of striking a deal.

The Mirror’s John Cross has reported on Twitter that Tottenham are set to secure Van de Ven in a £30million move.

90Min add that Tottenham are now confident of signing Van de Ven with a deal thought to be very close.

It’s stated that Liverpool do fancy signing Van de Ven but he is now expected to join Tottnham imminently.

Personal terms are pretty much in place and that report adds that the price will indeed be ÂŁ30million.

Tottenham have been desperate to add a new defender this summer with Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga potentially moving on.

A left-footed option was imperative with Clement Lenglet heading back to Barcelona too, so Van de Ven appears to be Tottenham’s man.

Micky van de Ven looks like a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham

This is a move with a certain level of risk.

Van de Ven is still only 22 and he isn’t a fully polished defender just yet.

There may be some growing pains in the Premier League and Van de Ven can be a little over-aggressive at times.

The potential is huge though and Van de Ven could come a star at Tottenham.

Van de Ven is an enormous presence at 6ft 4in tall, with his frame and physical style proving difficult for many Bundesliga attackers.

One of the key points with Van de Ven is his pace – or ‘extreme speed’ if you listen to Wolfsburg managing director Marcel Schafer.

The Dutchman has incredible long speed and was clocked as the joint-ninth fastest player in the Bundesliga last season.

Ange Postecoglou likes to play a high line and having recovery speed will be vital, so Van de Ven ticks that box.

Van de Ven is also a natural left-footer, providing balance in build-up play as Tottenham look to play out from the back a little more under Postecoglou.

Van de Ven isn’t the finished product and Spurs will know that.

The raw attributes are there though and if he builds on a superb Bundesliga campaign, ÂŁ30million may look like a snip down the line.

BARCELONA PRESIDENT NOW CONFIDENT HE WILL SELL ÂŁ35M DEFENDER TO SPURS

UK

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will finalise a deal to sign defender Clement Lenglet.

Clement Lenglet is being backed to join Tottenham Hotspur by Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

Laporta has been speaking to Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia about a number of subjects with Barcelona facing a big summer.

Barca missed out on Lionel Messi and are still looking to balance the books financially with players need to be moved on.

One of them is defender Lenglet, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham and cost Barcelona ÂŁ35million back in 2018.

The Frenchman has no future at Barcelona and they would love to move him on permanently this summer.

Joan Laporta’s confidence on Clement Lenglet move may be misplaced

Laporta seems confident on Lenglet’s move but we don’t feel quite so sure.

The 28-year-old was rather unspectacular during his loan spell at Tottenham and felt like a stop-gap from the minute he joined.

Tottenham weren’t able to sign a top left-footed centre back like Josko Gvardiol or Alessandro Bastoni, so turned to Lenglet to fill the gap.

Lenglet wasn’t terrible but wasn’t impressive either, and most Spurs fans would probably rather see Tottenham move on.

Fabrizio Romano claimed just a few days ago that Tottenham are ‘not advancing’ a deal for Lenglet.

Romano is adamant that Lenglet is ‘not a priority’ for Tottenham and they are instead focused on signing Edmond Tapsoba or Micky van de Ven.

Those two players make much more sense for Tottenham than Lenglet right now, who has limited resale value and doesn’t really improve the quality of the team.

Laporta seemingly thinks that a deal is on the cards but we think Tottenham should look elsewhere for a centre back signing this summer.

Three transfers were completed, Dominik Szoboszlai was signed, and Liverpool spent $138 million during the ideal transfer window.

In an ideal transfer window, Liverpool would follow through on the Dominik Szoboszlai rumors, closing three additional deals to assemble a really strong team.

More transfer intrigue was presented yesterday, which may have helped Liverpool fans get through the difficult midweek period. A brand-new candidate has emerged, adding to the drama, after a couple of weeks of dribbling along with the same few names and incredibly little in the way of genuine updates on them.

According to David Ornstein’s report in The Athletic, Liverpool is interested in RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai. The player has a release clause that expires after June 30, according to Fabrizio Romano, who later re-shared his own information, adding fuel to the fire.

It’s a unique clause that becomes active again in January, so Liverpool won’t necessarily try to make a quick offer. It might believe that the $77 million (£61 million/€70 million) valuation is excessive and would rather bargain. Szoboszlai is “high in [the club’s] thinking,” despite the fact that the club acknowledges that it will be difficult to complete the deal.

He ought to be, after all.

Given that Liverpool has already signed Alexis Mac Allister, Szoboszlai would actually make for the ideal transfer window for the club. The Hungarian, who graduated from the Red Bull academy and has a great stylistic fit with former priority target Mason Mount, appears to be a natural fit for one of JĂŒrgen Klopp’s new twin advanced number eight roles.

We’ve said before that the ideal Liverpool transfer window would involve adding a more specialized defensive presence. But in Szoboszlai, Klopp would be getting a number eight who was willing to do more than his fair share of grunt work. Mac Allister is also no stranger to that aspect of the game; in fact, he has even played as a number six in the past. They would provide Fabinho with plenty of protection as the two in front of him, enabling the Reds to put off making a decision in that part of the field for at least another season.

Three transfers were completed, Dominik Szoboszlai was signed, and Liverpool spent $138 million during the ideal transfer window.

Liverpool should have enough money to sign a third new midfielder even with two such wise additions. However, with Szoboszlai and Mac Allister already being of starting caliber, the subsequent player could enter with less pressure and a greater focus on potential. The club chooses from players like Ryan Gravenberch, Gabri Veiga, and Khéphren Thuram, which is where the more well-known names return to the forefront.

The latter would be ideal if it were ultimately possible to wrest him away from Bayern Munich. Gravenberch has always seemed like the perfect “third addition” midfielder: high potential with a tiny bit more risk. He hasn’t exactly played much this year, after all. At Ajax, he more than merited his status as a wonderkid, and Klopp could make him into something extraordinary.

Liverpool ought to make a strong effort if the asking price of just $28 million (£22 million/€25 million) is even remotely accurate. The actual sum would undoubtedly be higher if a deal could be reached; however, FSG wouldn’t have to spend a fortune to acquire him, as Bayern Munich only paid slightly less than that last summer. The potential unwillingness in Bavaria to let him go at all is the much greater obstacle.

Finally, Liverpool cannot ignore the defense; ideally, the club would sign a young, talented center-back this summer to head off a potential problem. Micky van de Ven is a frequently mentioned candidate who seems to fit the bill, though it appears that Spurs will be a rival. According to Goal, the Reds would have to pay Wolfsburg about $33 million (£26 million/€30 million) if they were to win that race.

These three transactions would add to the $138 million (£109 million/€126 million) already spent on Mac Allister in terms of expenditures. With no major departures anticipated, that is undoubtedly a very significant transfer window for FSG, but it is acknowledged that a rebuild is required. Genuine quality cannot be purchased for a lot less money.

How far Liverpool is willing to go is still up in the air. The ideal transfer window, however, is becoming more obvious thanks to this most recent Szoboszlai link.
