✅CONFIRM : Liverpool has signed an “exceptional” star as Third summer medical done CONTRACT ACCEPTED

Sources: Big update on Liverpool’s Romeo Lavia deal as midfielder medical begins

Liverpool are expecting to complete at least one marquee signing before the new Premier League season starts, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders are working on bringing in another central midfielder with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia top of their target list.

Liverpool have had a bid worth £38million rejected by the Saints for the 19-year-old but they are set to return with an improved offer.

Chelsea are also keen on Lavia and are ready to make a formal move of their own for the midfielder as their pursuit of Moises Caicedo stalls.

But Liverpool are currently in the driving seat to land Lavia and have already agreed personal terms with the player.

There remains some work to be done as Liverpool look to reinforce their squad ahead of the new campaign.

That begins for them with a 13th August trip to Chelsea although they would have to have any new signing registered by Friday, 11th August for him to play against the Londoners.

Liverpool are confident at least one new signing will be in place by that point.

Jordan Henderson has already left and Fabinho is set to follow him to Saudi Arabia as he undergoes a medical with Al-Ittihad

Football Insider first revealed Chelsea’s interest in Lavia back in March – alongside Arsenal and Man United, as well as former club Man City.

City will be entitled to 20% of any fee received for his services and hold a £40million buy-back option which becomes active next summer (2024).

The 19-year-old, whose contract at Southampton runs until June 2027, turned out 34 times across all competitions last season.

He has taken part in each of the Saints’ pre-season friendlies so far but was withdrawn at half-time against Bournemouth on Tuesday (25 July).

Manager Russell Martin subsequently admitted the youngster “has a lot in his head” as the race for his signature hots up.

Declan Rice may have already hinted at his plans for pre-season as talks continue between Arsenal and West Ham over a transfer for the England international. The 24-year-old is Mikel Arteta’s priority target this summer, football.london understands, and it’s believed a £105million fee has been agreed between the two clubs. The Gunners’ sporting director Edu Gaspar is locked in talks with the Hammers and it’s thought the structure of the deal is the only remaining stumbling block. With members of Arsenal’s first team squad expected to report back to the club’s training base at London Colney for the start of pre-season from Monday, it may not be too long until Rice joins them. Last playing for England on June 19 in the 7-0 win against North Macedonia, Rice has since been enjoying some time off and has recently been pictured in Dubai alongside fitness coach Chris Bowman, who posted a snap of the two together on Instagram.
